  • A direct torque control algorithm for 3-level inverter-fed induction motors is presented. Conventional voltage selection methods provoke some problems such as stator flux drooping phenomenon and undersirable torque control appeared especially at the low speed operation. To overcome these problems, a proposed method uses intermediate voltage vectors, which are inherently generated in 3-level inverters. In the proposed algorithm, both subdivision of the basic switching sectors and applications of tntermediated voltages improve the low speed operation characteristics. This algorithm basically considers applications in which direct torque controlled induction motors are fed by 3-level inverters with low switching frequency around 500Hz. An adaptive observer is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation, by estimating some state-variables, motor speed and motor parameters which take a deep effect on the performance of the low speed operation. Simulation and experiment results verify effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper represents a control method of improving the performance of direct drive robot. The direct transfer of torque and rotational speed of direct drive motor to the robot body without reduction gear makes the robot speed fast. However, the variation of inertia matrix and low friction cause the control difficult, and one more effort must be in the reducing the acceleration and deceleration time to reduce the cycle time. To fasten the cycle time and to improve the robustness of robot, one control method is developed, and implemented in the Goldstar DD robot. This method does not need to change the conventional PI type control structure, but one additional compensational control law is required. The control law can be obtained via inverse dynamic model of robot, and inverse model of existing control loop. The effects of this control law are shown in this paper.

  • An adaptive nonlinear control of a brushless direct drive motor(BLDDM) is proposed. Comparing to the traditional PMSM the direct drive motor has smaller number of per pole and per phase slots to provide higher torque in low speed. This generic construction generates flux harmonics and finally results in unwanted torque harmonics. To control the speed a feedback linearization method is applied by choosing the $i_{ds}$ and $\omega_{m}$ as the output variables. The control of the flux harmonics is provided by using a flux observer with MRAC technique. As shown in the simula-tion results the proposed nonlinear speed controller has a good speed response in the steady state and robust to the flux variation

  • This paper propose a improved direct torque control(DTC) system for improving operation of five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM). A five-phase IM drives present unique characteristics due to the additional degrees of freedom and also drives possess many others advantage compared with the traditional three-phase motor drive system, such as reducing a amplitude of torque pulsation and increasing the reliability. In order to maximize the torque per ampere, the proposed motor has concentrated windings and the produced back-electromotive force(EMF) is almost trapezoidal, and the motor is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus third harmonic of currents, there is necessary to controlled 3rd harmonic current. Also a DTC method is advantageous when it is applied to the five-phase IM, because the five-phase inverter provides 32 space vectors in comparison to 8 space voltage vectors into the three-phase inverter drive system. For presenting the superior performance of the proposed DTC, experimental results of speed control are presented using a 32-bit fixed point TMS320F2812 DSP with 1.5[hp] IM.

  • In this paper, improved direct torque control(DTC) system for five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) is proposed. Due to the additional degrees of freedom, five-phase 1M drives present unique characteristics. Also five-phase motor drives possess many other advantages compared with the traditional three-phase motor drive system, such as reducing an amplitude of torque pulsation and increasing the reliability. The DTC method is advantageous when it is applied to the five-phase IM, because the five-phase inverter provides 32 space vectors in comparison to 8 space voltage vectors into the three-phase inverter. However, five-phase motor has structural drawback of 3rd space-harmonics current component, it is necessary to controlled 3rd harmonic current. So to control 3rd harmonic current and enhance dynamic characteristics of five-phase squirrel-cage IM drive, modified DTC method should be demanded. The characteristics and dynamic performance of traditional five-phase DTC are analyzed and new DTC for five-phase IM is presented. A more precise flux and torque control algorithm for the drives can be suggested and explained For presenting the superior performance of the proposed direct torque control, experimental results are presented using a 32-[bit] fixed point TMS320F2812 digital signal processor with 2.2[kW] induction motor.

  • The Direct Torque Control (DTC) technique for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) is receiving increased attention due to its simplicity and robust dynamic response when compared with other control techniques. The classical switching table based DTC results in large flux and torque ripples in the motors. Several studies have been reported in the literature on classical DTC. However, there are only limited studies that actually discuss or evaluate the classical DTC. This paper proposes, novel switching table / DTC methods for PMSMs to reduce torque ripples. In this paper, two DTC schemes are proposed. The six sector and twelve sector methodology is considered in DTC scheme I and DTC scheme II, respectively. In both DTC schemes a simple modification is made to the classical DTC structure. The two level inverter available in the classical DTC is eliminated by replacing it with a three level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter. To further improve the performance of the proposed DTC scheme I, the available 27 voltage vectors are allowed to form different groups of voltage vectors such as Large - Zero (LZ), Medium - Zero (MZ) and Small - Zero (SZ), where as in DTC scheme II, all of the voltage vectors are considered to form a switching table. Based on these groups, a novel switching table is proposed. The proposed DTC schemes are comparatively investigated with the classical DTC and existing literatures through theory analysis and computer simulations. The superiority of the proposed DTC method is also confirmed by experimental results. It can be observed that the proposed techniques can significantly reduces the torque ripples and improves the quality of current waveform when compared with traditional and existing methods.

  • This paper proposes the variable wind generation system based on the direct torque control(DTC)for the interior permanent magnet synchronous generator. The proposed system can achieve the MPPT control without wind speed in addition to the speed and position sensorless control as well as the conventional current control method. The DTC has several advantages such as simply system configuration, ease of the flux weakening control and the sensorless control. The experimental results show the performance of the proposed wind generation system.

  • The DC(Direct-Current) servo motor has widely used for many application areas, FA(Factory Automation), OA(Office Automation) and home applications. But DC servo motor needs periodical inspection because it has brush and commutator. Recently, AC servo motor has expanded it's application areas due to for the development of the power semi-conductor and control technology. But it has large torque ripple for it's small number of commutation. And it also has cogging torque due to permanent magenet rotor. Therefore it can't run balence rotarion. Many torque ripple reduction methods are published. In this paper, phase advanced method adopted for torque ripple reduction of AC servo motor. In this research, AC servo motor torque characteristic variation surveied under the phase advance control through the computer simulation. Under the simulation, the load inertia varied from 0.0001[Kg.m$^{2}$] to 0.0314[Kg.m$^{2}$]. The result os nonlinear simulation, torque and speed ripple of AC servo motor under the phase advance control reduced approximately 50[%] and 10[%]. And maximum torque of AC servo motor under phase advance control condition increased about 5[%] as compare with fixed switching time.

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications. • Currently, there are various robot programming methods for articulated robots. Although each method has merits and drawbacks, they have commonly weak points for practical application, and especially the weak point can be even more vulnerable when the robot programming requires the subtle feelings of human being. This is because the movement of a human being is synthetic while the robot programming is analytic. Therefore, the present method of programming has limits in performing these kinds of subtle robot movement. In this paper, we propose a direct robot programming method, which generates robot programs based on the force/torque vector applied to a force/torque sensor by the human operator. The method reduces the effort required in the robot programming.
