This paper proposes a MPC (Model Predictive Control) method for the torque and flux controls of induction motor. The proposed MPC method selects the optimized voltage vector for the matrix converter control using the predictive modeling equation of the induction motor and cost function. Hence, the reference voltage vector that minimizes the cost function of the torque and flux error within the control period is selected and applied to the actual system. As a result, it is possible to perform the torque and flux control of induction motor using only the MPC controller without a PI (Proportional-Integral) or hysteresis controller. Even though the proposed control algorithm is more complicated and has lots of computations compared with the conventional MPC, it can perform torque ripple reduction by synthesizing voltage vectors of various magnitude. This feature provides the reduction of amount of calculations and the improvement of the control performance through the adjustment of the number of the unit vectors n. The proposed control method is validated through the PSIM simulation.

This paper proposes a new motor parameter estimation method. Because the proposed method is based on difference equations, it does not affect the error in the voltage magnitude so called dead-time effect. Information on the motor constant may be needed to improve the motor control performance. For example, a control technique called DTC (Direct Torque Control) requires a motor constant when calculating the torque and flux magnitude. As another example, in the case of predictive control, information on the motor parameters is required to generate voltage references. Because the constant of the motor fluctuates according to the driving environment, it is essential to estimate the correct motor constant because the control performance is degraded when incorrect motor information is used. In the proposed scheme, the motor constant estimated based on the voltage difference equation is obtained using the RLS (Recursive Least Square) technique. The RLS algorithm is applied to obtain the value through an iterative calculation so that the estimation performance is robust to noise. The simulation results carried out with surface mounted permanent magnet motors confirmed the validity of the proposed method.
In this paper, analysis of cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter in DTC-SVM (Direct Torque Control-Space Vector Modulation) based induction motor drive for FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) is presented. Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter uses multiple series units of H-bridge power cells to achieve medium-voltage operation and low harmonic distortion. In FCEV, a fuel cell stack is used as the major source of electric power moreover the battery and/or ultra-capacitor is used to assist the fuel cell. These sources are suitable for utilizing in cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter. The drive control strategy is based on DTC-SVM technique. In this scheme, first, stator voltage vector is calculated and then realized by SVM method. Contribution of multilevel inverter to the DTC-SVM scheme is led to achieve high performance motor drive. Simulations are carried out in Matlab-Simulink. Five-level and nine-level inverters are applied in 3hp FCEV induction motor drive for analysis the multilevel inverter. Each H-bridge is implemented using one fuel cell and battery. Good dynamic control and low ripple in the torque and the flux as well as distortion decrease in voltage and current profiles, demonstrate the great performance of multilevel inverter in DTC-SVM induction motor drive for vehicle application.

Along with the development of power electronics and magnetic materials, permanent magnet (PM) brushless direct current (BLDC) motors are now widely used in many fields of modern industry BLDC motors have many advantages such as high efficiency, large peak torque, easy control of speed, and reliable working characteristics. However, Compared with the other electric motors without a PM, BLDC motors with a PM have inherent cogging torque. It is often a principle source of vibration, noise and difficulty of control in BLDC motors. Cogging torque which is produced by the interaction of the rotor magnetic flux and angular variation in the stator magnetic reluctance can be reduced by sinusoidal air-gap flux density waveform due to reduction of variation of magnetic reluctance. Therefore, this paper will present a design method of magnetizing system for reduction of cogging torque and low manufacturing cost of BLDC motor with isotropic bonded neodynium-iron-boron (Nd-Fe-B) magnets in ring type by sinusoidal air-gap flux density distribution. An analytical technique of magnetization makes use of two-dimensional finite element method (2-D FEM) and Preisach model that expresses the hysteresis phenomenon of magnetic materials in order for accurate calculation. In addition, For optimum design of magnetizing fixture, Factorial design which is one of the design of experiments (DOE) is used.
In conventional sinusoidal wave PWM control, torque oscillation is a problem on account of harmonic component. This paper deals with the choice of line-to-line voltage modulation method, which is effective in using DC(direct current) source voltage and in controlling harmonic oscillation, and the pattern to reduce swiching loss through 1/3 pause of switching interral. So, this paper deals with valid realization of harmonic component and high torque response on variable load by simulation and experiments to compensate occurring problems when line-to-line modulation are applied to PWM inverter.
In this paper, different switching tables proposed for the Direct Torque Controlled (DTC) of a six-phase induction machine are simulated and implemented. A six-phase induction motor has 64 space voltage vectors which result in increased complexity in the selecting of inverters switching. The unsuitable selection of a switching table leads to large harmonics especially at low speed and it also reduces drive efficiency. A six-phase induction machine has large zero sequence harmonic currents of the order $6{\kappa}{\pm}1$. These harmonic currents are varied in various techniques. Decreasing this loss is essential in a six-phase induction machine. The main purpose of this paper is to improve the ST-DTC of six-phase induction machines to reduce the voltage and current harmonics and the torque pulsation. Selecting a suitable method for minimizing these harmonics is very important.

Novel 8/10 bearingless switched reluctance motor, which can control rotor radial positions with magnetic force, is proposed. The motor has combined characteristics of switched reluctance motor and magnetic bearing. This paper proposes a air-gap control system method of suspending force control in a bearingless switched reluctance motor (BLSRM). The proposed radial force control scheme is independent to the torque winding current. A PI direct current control (DCC) controller and look-up table are used to maintain a constant rotor air-gap. From the analysis and the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed strategy is effective in realizing a naturally decoupled radial force control of BLSRM.
This paper presents a robust and speed-sensorless stator flux estimation for induction motor direct torque control. The proposed observer is based on sliding mode approach. Stator electrical equations are used in the rotor orientation reference frame to eliminate the observer dependence on rotor speed. Lyapunov's concept for systems stability is adopted to confine the observer gain. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the observer to parameter mismatch is recovered with an adaptation technique. The nonlinearities of the pulse width modulation voltage source inverter are estimated and compensated to enhance stability at low speeds. Therefore, a new method based on the model reference adaptive system is proposed. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
Multilevel inverter has attracted great interest in high-voltage high-power field because of its less distorted output. In this paper, a direct torque control (DTC) technique based on a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter is presented. In order to solve the intrinsic neutral-point voltage-balancing problem and to obtain a high performance DTC, a special vector selection method is introduced and the concept of virtual vector is developed. By using the proposed PWM strategy, a MRAS speed sensor-less DTC drive can be achieved without sensing the neutral-point voltage, The strategy can be verified by simulation and experimental results.
This paper presents a direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) of Switched Reluctance Moto (SRM) with a novel 4-level converter to obtain smooth torque and dynamic performance improvement. The DITC method can reduce the high inherent torque ripple of SRM drive system, but driving efficiency and dynamic performance are somewhat low due to the slow excitation current build-up. Since the 4-level converter can obtain a addition high voltage to get fast excitation current and demagnetization current, so, it can improve dynamic performance easily. As a high performance SRM drive system with low torque ripple and high dynamic performance can be implemented. The validity of proposed method is verified by some computer simulations and comparative experiments.
