Direct tracking problem of moving noncircular sources for multiple arrays is investigated in this study. Here, we propose an improved unscented particle filter (I-UPF) direct tracking method, which combines system proportional symmetry unscented particle filter and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. Noncircular sources can extend the dimension of sources matrix, and the direct tracking accuracy is improved. This method uses multiple arrays to receive sources. Firstly, set up a direct tracking model through consecutive time and Doppler information. Subsequently, based on the improved unscented particle filter algorithm, the proposed tracking model is to improve the direct tracking accuracy and reduce computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed improved unscented particle filter algorithm for noncircular sources has enhanced tracking accuracy than Markov Chain Monte Carlo unscented particle filter algorithm, Markov Chain Monte Carlo extended Kalman particle filter, and two-step tracking method.

The performance of the direct adaptive time-delay command shaping filter depends on the select time-delay. In the previously introduced direct adaptive command shaping filter, however, the time-delay value is fixed and only the magnitudes of the impulses are learned. In this paper, the authors introduce a new scheme to adapt the time-delay which is to be used in conjunction with the direct adaptive command shaping for the improved vibration suppression in flexible motion system. In order to formulate the time-delay adaptation scheme, the authors have analyzed the effect of the time-delay value on the performance of the direct adaptive command shaping filter. By modifying the direct adaptation formula based on the analysis result the authors have established a set of equations to adapt the time-delay toward the optimal value. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed time-delay adaptation approach for the improved vibration suppression.

To establish the Fourier-Transform Infra-Red spectrophotometry(FTIR) Direct-On-Filter(DOF) technique as a useful analytical method for quartz in respirable dust samples, an influence of the kaolinite should be corrected. Respirable dust, created in a dust chamber containing the standard material of quartz and kaolinite were collected using a cyclone equipped with a 25 mm, $0.8\;{\mu}m$ pore size DM filter as a collection medium. This study was designed to compare three methods of correction for kaolinite when quantifying the content of quartz, including the least square, the optimum choice and the spectral subtraction methods. The content of quartz in the respirable dust samples was overestimated by 6.2% when mixed with kaolinite(35.5% by weight). The content of quartz containing kaolinite(72.8% by weight) were overestimated by 32%. The spectral subtraction method underestimated the quartz content by 1.5%, while the other two correction methods, the optimum choice and the least square method, overestimated the quartz content by 1.9% to 6.4% and 0.04 to 1.1%, respectively. The results of this study are suggested that, when correcting for effects of kaolinite on quantitative analysis of quartz in respirable dust by FTIR direct-on-filter method, the least square method produce the most unbiased results be compared with those of other correction methods.
In this paper, a predictive direct power control (DPC) method based on a Kalman filter is presented for three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifiers to improve the performance of rectifiers with source voltages that are distorted with harmonic components. This method can eliminate the most significant harmonic components of the source voltage using a Kalman filter algorithm. In the process of predicting the future real and reactive power to select an optimal voltage vector in the predictive DPC, the proposed method utilizes source voltages filtered by a Kalman filter, which can mitigate the adverse effects of distorted source voltages on control performance. As a result, the quality of the source currents synthesized using the PWM rectifier is improved, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) values are reduced, even under distorted source voltages.

This study proposes an input filter for a gallium-nitride-based direct matrix converter with a stepless current commutation technique. Various current commutation strategies have been adopted for reliable operation of switches. These strategies are complex to be implemented and require additional components. The stepless current commutation technique is simple to operate but causes overcurrent issues due to the occurrence of short circuit on input sources. In this study, to restrict the short circuit current, we utilized GaN devices with fast switching properties and modified the input filter. The proposed input filter was verified by experimental results of induction motor drive.

In recent European telecommunication base transceiver stations(BTS) a membrane laminated air filter is reported to replace a heat exchanger in order to cool internal digital units of BTS. The concept of using the air filter is for the direct ambient cooling(DAC) of BTSs without heat loss generally found ill the heat exchanger type BTS. In the present study, a performance evaluation experiment was conducted to investigate the pressure drop characteristics with dust loading and the particle collection efficiency of the air filter for the DAC of BTS.
In this paper, we propose an efficient design method for area optimization in a digital filter. The conventional methods to reduce the number of adders in a filter have the problem of a long critical path delay caused by the deep logic depth of the filter due to adder sharing. Furthermore, there is such a disadvantage that they use the transposed direct form (TDF) filter which needs more registers than those of the direct form (DF) filter. In this paper, we present a hybrid structure of a TDF and DF based on the flattened coefficients method so that it can reduce the number of flip-flops and full-adders without additional critical path delay. We also propose a resource sharing method and sharing-pattern searching algorithm to reduce the number of adders without deepening the logic depth. Simulation results show that the proposed structure can save the number of adders and registers by 22 and 26%, respectively, compared to the best one used in the past.

Although the Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectrophotometric Direct on Filter(FTIR-DOF) method is a useful analytical technique for quantifying quartz content in respirable dust samples, a number of analytical problems must be taken into consideration such as, to name only a few, inhomogeneous deposition of particles, level of environmental humidity, uneven surface of the filter, and interfering minerals in the sample. This study was designed to select the most suitable wavelength and proper filter material for the method, and to investigate effects of humidity and inhomogeneous deposition of particles on the filter. Samples of respirable dust, created in a dust chamber containing standard material of quartz, were collected using a cyclone equipped with a 25mm filter as a collection medium. The results were as follows; 1. Among seven (7) commercially available filters tested for the FTIR-DOF method, the DM 800 filter showed the best analytical performance having the lowest background absorbance bands and no overlapping peaks at 799, 779, and $695cm^{-1}$. 2. The variations of absorbance due to humidity ranged from 1.0% to 3.3% for $799cm^{-1}$, 1.0% to 3.3% for $779cm^{-1}$, and 8.9%~20.9% for $695cm^{-1}$ peaks, respectively. The $699cm^{-1}$ peak was proved to be most vulnerble to environmental humidity for quantitative analysis of quartz. 3. As for effects of inhomogeneous deposition of samples, the highest variation of absorbance of 10.9% ($13.5{\mu}g$) was observed when using the 695cm-1. The variations of absorbance from the other two peaks, 799 and $779cm^{-1}$, ranged from 1.2 to 3.2%, and 1.4 to 4.1%, respectively. Therefore, the $799cm^{-1}$ peak was considered to be most reliable for quantitative analysis of quartz. The results of this study suggest that, for quantitative analysis of quartz in the respirable dust samples, use of the $799cm^{-1}$ peak can minimize the influence of environmental humidity and inhomogeneous deposition of particles on the filter. The FTIR-DOF method, if adopted for routine analysis of quartz in the respirable dust samples, could save sample preparation time and efforts substantially and also could increase analytical throughputs. Since use of the $799cm^{-1}$ peak is prone to be affected by interferences in the sample, further research on minimizing the effects is needed.
After-treatment system for gasoline direct injection engines should be considered due to the regulation standard for particle number emitted from spark ignition engine vehicles. A metal foam particulate filter, which is thought to be more proper for gasoline engines for its unique filtration and heat resistance characteristics, has been evaluated via engine dynamometer tests.
