This paper introduces an improved modal pushover analysis (IMPA) which can effectively evaluate the seismic response of multi-span continuous bridge structures on the basis of modal pushover analysis (MPA). Differently from previous modal pushover analyses which cause the numerical unstability because of the occurrence of reversed relation between the pushover load and displacement, the proposed method eliminates this numerical instability and, in advance the coupling effects induced from the direct application of modal decomposition by introducing an identical stiffness ratio for each dynamic mode at the post-yielding stage together with an approximate elastic deformation. In addition to these two introductions, the use of an effective seismic load, calculated from the modal spatial force and applied as the distributed load, makes it possible to predict the dynamic responses of all bridge structures through a simpler analysis procedure than those in conventional modal pushover analyses. Finally, in order to establish validity and applicability of the proposed method, correlation studies between a rigorous nonlinear time history analysis and the proposed method were conducted for multi-span continuous bridges.
Integral cryptanalysis, which is based on the existence of (higher-order) integral distinguishers, is a powerful cryptographic method that can be used to evaluate the security of modern block ciphers. In this paper, we focus on substitution-permutation network (SPN) ciphers and propose a criterion to characterize how an r-round integral distinguisher can be extended to an (r+1)-round higher-order integral distinguisher. This criterion, which builds a link between integrals and higher-order integrals of SPN ciphers, is in fact based on the theory of direct decomposition of a linear space defined by the linear mapping of the cipher. It can be directly utilized to unify the procedure for finding 4-round higher-order integral distinguishers of AES and ARIA and can be further extended to analyze higher-order integral distinguishers of various block cipher structures. We hope that the criterion presented in this paper will benefit the cryptanalysts and may thus lead to better cryptanalytic results.
Persulfates (i.e., peroxymonosulfate and peroxydisulfate) are capable of oxidizing a wide range of organic compounds via direct reactions, as well as by indirect reactions by the radical intermediates. In aqueous solution, persulfates undergo self-decomposition, which is accelerated by thermal, photochemical and metal-catalyzed methods, which usually involve the generation of various radical species. The chemistry of persulfates has been studied since the early twentieth century. However, its environmental application has recently gained attention, as persulfates show promise in in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) for soil and groundwater remediation. Persulfates are known to have both reactivity and persistence in the subsurface, which can provide advantages over other oxidants inclined toward either of the two properties. Besides the ISCO applications, recent studies have shown that the persulfate oxidation also has the potential for wastewater treatment and disinfection. This article reviews the chemistry regarding the hydrolysis, photolysis and catalysis of persulfates and the reactions of persulfates with organic compounds in aqueous solution. This article is intended to provide insight into interpreting the behaviors of the contaminant oxidation by persulfates, as well as developing new persulfate-based oxidation technologies.

The low force estimation method of skeletal muscle was proposed by using ICA(independent component analysis) and neuro-transmission model. An EMG decomposition is the procedure by which the signal is classified into its constituent MUAP(motor unit action potential). The force index of electromyography was due to the generation of MUAP. To estimate low force, current analysis technique, such as RMS(root mean square) and MAV(mean absolute value), have not been shown to provide direct measures of the number and timing of motoneurons firing or their firing frequencies, but are used due to lack of other options. In this paper, the method based on ICA and chemical signal transmission mechanism from neuron to muscle was proposed. The force generation model consists of two linear, first-order low pass filters separated by a static non-linearity. The model takes a modulated IPI(inter pulse interval) as input and produces isometric force as output. Both the step and random train were applied to the neuro-transmission model. As a results, the ICA has shown remarkable enhancement by finding a hidden MAUP from the original superimposed EMG signal and estimating accurate IPI. And the proposed estimation technique shows good agreements with the low force measured comparing with RMS and MAV method to the input patterns.

In this study, we investigated the conversion performance of de-NOx catalyst for lean-burn natural gas engine. As a de-NOx catalyst, NOx storage reduction catalyst was composed of Pt, Pd and Rh with washcoat including Ba and Ni, Ru-ZSM-5. Ni, Ru-ZSM-5, which was regarded as a NOx direct decomposition catalyst, was made up of ion exchanged ZSM-5 by 5wt.% Ni or Ru. The performance of de-NOx catalyst was evaluated by NOx storage capacity and catalytic reduction in air/fuel, $\lambda=1.6$. The catalytic reaction was also observed when the added fuel was supplied to fuel rich atmosphere by fuel spike period of 5 seconds. The NOx conversion of the catalysts with Ni-ZSM-5 or Ru-ZSM-5 was mainly caused by the effect of NOx adsorption of Ba rather than the catalytic reduction of Ni, Ru-ZSM-5. Ni, Ru-ZSM-5 catalysts can not use for the NSR catalyst because they have quick process in thermal deactivation.

Classical flutter of wind turbine blades indicates a type of aeroelastic instability with fully attached boundary layer where a torsional blade mode couples to a flapwise bending mode, resulting in a mutual rapid growth of the amplitudes. In this paper the monitoring problem of onset of flutter is investigated from a detection point of view. The criterion is stated in terms of the exceeding of a defined envelope process of a specific maximum torsional vibration threshold. At a certain instant of time, a limited part of the previously measured torsional vibration signal at the tip of blade is decomposed through the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method, and the 1st Intrinsic Mode Function (IMF) is assumed to represent the response in the flutter mode. Next, an envelope time series of the indicated modal response is obtained in terms of a Hilbert transform. Finally, a flutter onset criterion is proposed, based on the indicated envelope process. The proposed online flutter monitoring method provided a practical and direct way to detect onset of flutter during operation. The algorithm has been illustrated by a 907-DOFs aeroelastic model for wind turbines, where the tower and the drive train is modelled by 7 DOFs, and each blade by means of 50 3-D Bernoulli-Euler beam elements.

The spatial domain design of 2-dimensional separable denominator digital filters(SDDF) based on the reduced dimensional decomposition can be realized when the given 2-D impulse response specifications are decomposed into a pair of 1-D specifications via singular value decompositions(SVD). Because of use of the balaned approximation and equivalent transform as 1-D design algorithm, 2-D design algorithm retains the advantage that is numerically stable and can minimize quantization errors. In this paper in order to analyze and reduce these errors, minimum comfficient quantization realization is directly derived from impulse response specification. And using the equivalent trans form relation between mininum coefficient quantization error and minimum roundoff error realizations, we optimally realize a SDDF. This algorithm is analyzed by the simulation, which shows that it is superior to direct or balanced realization in quantization errors.

In this paper, we have studied with regard to the use of lasers for modifying the surface properties of silicon in order to improve it's wettability and adhesion characteristics. Using an Nd:YAG pulse laser, the wettability and adhesion characteristics of silicon surface have been developed by an Nd:YAG pulse laser. It was found that the laser treatment of silicon surfaces modified the surface energy. In the result of wetting experiments, by the sessile drop technique using the distilled water, wetting characteristic of silicon after the laser irradiation shows a decreased value of the contact angle. In case of the laser treated silicon surface, laser direct writing of copper lines has been achieved by pyrolytic decomposition of copper formate films$(Cu(HCOO)_2{\cdot}4H_2Q)$, using a focused $Ar^+$ laser beam$(\lambda=514.5nm)$ on the silicon substrates. The deposited patterns were measured by energy dispersive X-ray(EDX), Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and surface profiler($\alpha$-step) to examine the cross section of deposited copper lines and linewidth.

The present paper discusses about noble idea on various reactions including hydrides, hydrogen peroxide and nano-sized metal powders, which do not emit toxic materials as well as carbon dioxide. Here in this paper, the very first-ever concept that heat energy can be generated from the direct reaction between sodium borohydride and hydrogen peroxide is presented. Sodium hydride as fuel can supply hydrogen reacting with oxygen provided by the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide solution. Solid sodium borohydride can be resolved in water and treated as liquid solution for the easy handling and the practical usage although its solid powder can be directly mixed with hydrogen peroxide for the higher reactivity. The thermodynamic analysis was conducted to estimate adiabatic reaction temperatures from these materials. The preliminary experiment on the reactions conducted using sodium borohydride powder and hydrogen peroxide water solution revealed that the self-propagating reaction can occur and that its reactivity increases with an increase of hydrogen peroxide concentration.

In view of the fact that gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is an important piece of equipment in a substation, it is highly desirable to continuously monitor the state of equipment by measuring the partial discharge (PD) activity in a GIS, as PD is a symptom of an insulation weakness/breakdown. However, since the PD signal is relatively weak and the external noise makes detection of the PD signal difficult, it therefore requires careful attention in its detection. In this paper, the algorithm for detection of PD in the GIS using the wavelet transform (WT) is proposed. The WT provides a direct quantitative measure of the spectral content and dynamic spectrum in the time-frequency domain. The most appropriate mother wavelet for this application is the Daubechies 4 (db4) wavelet. 'db4', the most commonly applied mother wavelet in the power quality analysis, is very well suited to detecting high frequency signals of very short duration, such as those associated with the PD phenomenon. The proposed algorithm is based on utilizing the absolute sum value of coefficients, which are a combination of D1 (Detail 1) and D2 (Detail 2) in multiresolution signal decomposition (MSD) based on WT after noise elimination and normalization.
