The equations of motion for rotating contilever beams with a concentrated mass loated in an arbitrary position are derived. For the modeling of the concentrated mass the Dirac delta function is used for the mass density function. Parametric studies are performed with five dimensionless variables ; natural frequencies, angular velocity, hub radius, concentrated mass, and the mass location. The concentrated mass, whereverit may locate, lowers the natural frequencies of a stationaly beam. However, when the beam rotates, the natural frequencies(if they increase or decrease) are dictated by the location of the concentrated mass.
In the present paper, a direct forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) level set method is proposed to simulate the FSI (fluid-solid interaction) in two-phase flow. The main idea is to combine the direct-forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) method with the level set method in the Cartesian coordinates. The DF/FD method is a non-Lagrange-multiplier version of a distributed Lagrange multiplier/fictitious domain (DLM/FD) method. This method does not sacrifice the accuracy and robustness by employing a discrete ${\delta}$ (Dirac delta) function to transfer quantities between the Eulerian nodes and Lagrangian points explicitly as the immersed boundary method. The advantages of this approach are the simple concept, easy implementation, and utilization of the original governing equation without modification. Simulations of various water-entry problems have been conducted to validate the capability and accuracy of the present method in solving the FSI in two-phase flow. Consequently, the present results are found to be in good agreement with those of previous studies.
A modeling method for the vibration analysis of rotating cantilever plastes with stiffeners is presented. The equations of motion for the plates aer derived and trnasformed into a dimensionless form. A mass density Dirac's delta function is used to idealize the stiffener mathematically. The effects of stiffeners on the model characteristics of the plate are investigated, and mode shape variations due to some parameter variation are exhibited. It is found that veering phenomena occur between some loci and associated mode shapes change significantly during the veering phenomena.

The Hydrological Simulation Program - FORTRAN (HSPF) was modified to simulate nonpoint pollutant loadings from paddy fields using a field experimental data collected during 2001-2002. The concept of a 'dike height' was added in a modified HSPF code, named HSPF-Paddy, to consider the function of retaining water by a weir at the field outlet. The effect of fertilization on the variances of nutrients on the soil surface and shallow soil layer was described mathematically with a Dirac delta function (or first-order kinetics). As confirmed through model verification, the HSPF-Paddy modifications were shown to represent the function of retaining water, varied ponded water, and surface runoff by forced drain during both rainy and non-rainy seasons and reasonably predicted the water balance and nutrients behavior in paddy fields. It is a distributed watershed model which, with the paddy modifications, can now simulate nonpoint pollutant loadings where paddy fields are dominant, and it can be used to evaluate the effects of paddy fields on the water quality at a basin scale, and assess the impacts of proposed BMPs applied to paddy fields.

PADDIMOD2 was deloped to estimate nonpoint source pollution from paddy rice fields. The PADDIMOD2 was enhanced to estimate runoff and pollutant load during non-growing as well as growing season and to be easily used for public by development of Excel based system. Nutrient concentration and hydrology were based on Dirac delta function and continuous source function, and tank model for growing season and Event Mean Concentrations (EMCs) and SCS-Curve Number method for non-growing season. The PADDIMOD2 consists of three main component (input data, parameters data, and output data) by including eight Excel spread sheets. As a result of model application, total precipitation and irrigation were 1,051.7 mm and 439.2 mm, respectivley and surface runoff and water loss including infiltration and evapotranspiration were 463.0 mm and 947.9 mm, respectively. Annual nutrient loadings of T-N and T-P from study area were 6.7 kg/$km^2$/day and 0.5 kg/$km^2$/day, respectively. Development of PADDIMOD2 was focused on minimizing input data and maximizing user friendly system and is expected to be useful tool to evaluate various non-structure BMPs and estimate unit load from paddy rice fields for application at Korean TMDL.
In this paper, a minimum Euclidian distance criterion between error PDF and Dirac delta function is introduced and a constant modulus type blind equalizer algorithm based on the criterion is proposed. The proposed algorithm using constant modulus error in place of actual error term of the criterion has superior convergence and steady state MSE performance, and the error signal of the proposed algorithm exhibits more concentrated density function in blind equalization environments. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method can be a reliable candidate for blind equalizer algorithms for multipoint communications.

In this paper, we propose a new function embedding method that can measure mathematical projections of probability amplitude, probability, average expectation and matrix elements of stationary-state unit matrix at all control operation points of quantum gates. The function embedding method in this paper is to embed orthogonal normalization condition of probability amplitude for each control operating point into a binary scalar operator by using Dirac symbol and Kronecker delta symbol. Such a function embedding method is a very effective means of controlling the arithmetic power function of a unitary gate in a unitary transformation which expresses a quantum gate function as a tensor product of a single quantum. We present the results of evolutionary operation and projective measurement when we apply the proposed function embedding method to the ternary 2-qutrit cNOT gate and compare it with the existing methods.
A frequency-domain method is developed for evaluating the earthquake input energy to two building structures connected by viscous dampers. It is shown that the earthquake input energies to respective building structures and viscous connecting dampers can be defined as works done by the boundary forces between the subsystems on their corresponding displacements. It is demonstrated that the proposed energy transfer function is very useful for clear understanding of dependence of energy consumption ratios in respective buildings and connecting viscous dampers on their properties. It can be shown that the area of the energy transfer function for the total system is constant regardless of natural period and damping ratio because the constant Fourier amplitude of the input acceleration, relating directly the area of the energy transfer function to the input energy, indicates the Dirac delta function and only an initial velocity (kinetic energy) is given in this case. Owing to the constant area property of the energy transfer functions, the total input energy to the overall system including both buildings and connecting viscous dampers is approximately constant regardless of the quantity of connecting viscous dampers. This property leads to an advantageous feature that, if the energy consumption in the connecting viscous dampers increases, the input energies to the buildings can be reduced drastically. For the worst case analysis, critical excitation problems with respect to the impulse interval for double impulse (simplification of pulse-type impulsive ground motion) and multiple impulses (simplification of long-duration ground motion) are considered and their solutions are provided.
Study on swimming of microorganisms like, sperm motility, cilia beating, bacterial flagellar propulsion has found immense significance in the field of biological fluiddynamics. Because of the complexity involved, it is challenging for the researchers to model such problems. Immersed boundary method has proved its efficacy in the field of biological fluiddynamics, The present work aims at performing a numerical study on the microorganism locomotion using the immersed boundary method proposed by Peskin[1]. A two-dimensional model of the microorganism is modeled as thin elastic filament described as a sine wave. The neutrally buoyant organism undergoing deformations is immersed in a viscous and incompressible fluid. The fluid quantities are described using Eulerian coordinates and the immersed body is represented by Lagrangian coordinates. The Eulerian and Lagrangian variables are connected by the Dirac delta function. The Navier-Stokes equations governing the fluid flow are solved using the fractional step method on a staggered Cartesian grid system. The developed numerical code in FORTRAN will be validated by comparing the numerical results with the available results.
