  • The design and performance analysis of a reduced rating autotransformer based thirty-pulse AC-DC converter is carried out for feeding a vector controlled induction motor drive (VCIMD). The configuration of the proposed autotransformer consists of only two single phase transformers, with their windings connected in a T-shape, resulting in simplicity in design, manufacturing and in a reduction in magnetics rating. The design procedure of the autotransformer along with the newly designed interphase transformer is presented. The proposed configuration has flexibility in varying the transformer output voltage ratios as required. The design of the autotransformer can be modified for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse diode bridge rectifier is used. The proposed thirty-pulse AC-DC converter is capable of suppressing less than $29^{th}$ harmonics in the supply current. The power factor is also improved to near unity in the wide operating range of the drive. A comparison of different power quality indices at AC mains and DC bus is demonstrated in a conventional 6-pulse AC-DC converter and the proposed AC-DC converter feeding a VCIMD. A laboratory prototype of the proposed autotransformer based 30-pulse AC-DC converter was developed with test results validating the proposed design and system.

  • This paper introduces a gamma-ray measurement system for a transportable tomography which is applicable for an industrial process diagnosis. The gamma-ray measurement system consists of pulse mode operating 72 channel CsI detectors, main AMP-pulse shaper, single channel analyzer, counter and control PC. The CsI crystal is coupled with a PIN diode which is connected to an amplifier and pulse shaper. For a compact design, the amplifier and pulse shaping circuit are included in a single package. 36 sets of CsI detectors are connected to a multi-channel counter through single channel analyzers. A computer controls and collects data from two multi-channel counters. This configuration results in 72 channel counting system in total. The CT rotator and radiation measurement system are controlled by a PC with LabVIEW program. Tomographic data were measured for a phantom by the measurement system and transportable gamma-ray CT. From the experimental data image reconstructions were performed by ML-EM algorithm. The result showed that the CsI detector system can be a suitable component for transportable gamma-ray CT system.

  • In this paper, interface circuits that are suitable for point-to-point interconnection with an over 1 Gbps data rate per pin are proposed. To achieve a successful data transfer rate of multi-gigabits per-second between two chips with a point-to-point interconnection, the input receiver uses an on-chip parallel terminator of the pass gate style, while the output driver uses the pullup and pulldown transistors of the diode-connected style. In addition, the novel dynamic voltage level converter (DVLC) has solved such problems as the access time increase and valid data window reduction. These schemes were adopted on a 64 Mb DDR SRAM with a 1.5 Gbps data rate per pin and fabricated using a 0.10 ${\mu}m$ dual gate oxide CMOS technology.

  • In the single-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive, the required DC source is generally supplied by the circuit consisting of bridge rectifier and large filter capacitor connected with DC line terminal. Due to the large capacity of the capacitor, the charged time of capacitor is very short from the AC source. Lead to the bridge rectifiers draws pulsating current from the AC source side, which results in reduction of power factor and low system efficiency. Therefore a novel single-phase SRM drive system is presented in this paper, which includes drive circuit realizing reduction of torque ripple and improvement of power factor with a novel switching topology. The proposed drive circuit consists of one switching part and diode, which can separate the output of AC/DC rectifier from the large capacitor and supply power to SRM alternately, in order to realize the torque ripple reduction and power factor improvement through the switching scheme. In addition, the validity of the proposed method is tested by some simulations and experiments.

  • A highly efficient charge pump that minimizes the reverse charge sharing current (in short, reverse current) is proposed. The charge pump employs auxiliary capacitors and diode-connected MOSFET along with an early clock to drive the charge transfer switches; this new method provides better isolation between stages. As a result, the amount of reverse current is reduced greatly and the clock driver can be designed with reduced transition slope. As a proof of the concept, a 1.1V-to-9.8 V charge pump was designed in a $0.35{\mu}m$ 18 V CMOS technology. The proposed architecture shows 1.6 V ~ 3.5 V higher output voltage compared with the previously reported architecture.

  • A high-efficiency electronic ballast for HID lamps is presented. The ballast consists of a PFC and a resonant inverter. To reduce losses of ballast,7C link voltage is determined by taking into account the peak voltage of lamp and a filter-inductor at Bridge diode is employed in order to remove harmonics from PFC. The flux density B$_{m}$ is kept 0.2[T] on all of inductors. A small inductor is connected in series with an electrolytic capacitor of PFC to be operated no high-frequency components. The acoustic resonance is eliminated using the spread spectrum technique. Electronic ballast for 250W metal-halide lamp is implemented and the experimental results show that 97% efficiency, no acoustic resonance and low conducted EMI level.l.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of a new input AC current wave shaping AC-DC converter for cost effective harmonic mitigation under varying loads. The proposed converter consists of a delta-polygon connected autotransformer based twelve-pulse AC-DC converter and a small rating passive shunt filter tuned at $11^{th}$ harmonic frequency. The proposed AC-DC converter eliminates the most dominant $5^{th},\;7^{th}$ and $11^{th}$ harmonics and reduces higher order harmonics; thereby, resulting in an improved power quality at AC mains. Moreover, the design of the autotransformer is modified to make it suitable for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse diode bridge rectifier is used. To validate the proposed approach, various power quality indices are presented under varying loads. Experimental results obtained on the developed converter are given to validate the model and design of the proposed converter.

  • Recently, many nation have released standard such as IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE 59, which impose a limit on the harmonic current drawn by equipment connected to AC line in order to prevent the distortion of an AC Line. Therefore, Plasma Display Panel (PDP) which is highlightened in digital display device also has the Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit to meet the harmonic requirements. In PDP power module, the conventional boost converter is usually used for the PFC circuit. However, it comes serious thermal problem on it's bridge diode due to heat of PDP, and therefore the system stability is not guaranteed. In this paper, the bridgeless boost converter, which is used for PFC circuit of the PDP power module, is designed and verified the possibility of the application in a practical product in a view of efficiency, component count, temperature and etc.

  • An investigation into power conditioners that interface with photovoltaic array and utilities has been completed. The rating for this investigation is residential system(3-5kW) that interface with a 220V single phase utility connection. As the result of this investigation, a 3kW high frequency PWM IGBT inverter feeding a high frequency isolation transformer with a sinusoidal current wave was selected. The output of the transformer rectified with a diode bridge rectifier four IGBT, used as 60Hz switched, reverse the polarity of the rectified current on every other half cycle of the utility voltage. Even though the high frequency link system used more power semiconductors a net size, weight, and parts cost saying result compared to the other systems due to elimination of 60Hz transformer.

The VCO is designed using the small signal method and fabricated using ETRI GaAs MMIC foundry. The 3x200$\mu$m gate width MESFET with 1$\mu$m gate length is used for an active device and MIM capacitors, spiral inductors, thin film resitors are used as passive elements. The VCO has output power of 10.95dBm at 1955 MHz with 5V bias voltage and 4V tuning voltage. The oscillation frequency change form 1947 MHz to 1964 MHz is obtaine dby an external varactor diode connected to the gate with a tuning voltage from 0 V to 6V.
