폐목재파티클을 이용한 재생보드의 제조특성 (Manufacturing Characteristics of Boards Recycling Waste Wood Particle)

  • 폐목질원료로서, 제재, 합판, PB, MDF와 폐침목 등의 해머밀에 의한 파쇄특성과 재생파티클 종류와 혼합비율에 따른 재생보드의 물성을 구명함으로써, 보드원료로서 재자원화 하는 방안을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 그 결과, 재생보드의 휨성질은 목질원료의 입자형태 및 입도분포에 크게 영향을 받으며, 파티클, 섬유와 같은 element가 압축고화된 상태의 판넬(PB, MDF)로부터 재생한 파티클은 물성저하를 초래하였다. 그러나, 재생파티클에 이미 도포 경화된 수지에 의해 재생보드의 치수안정성이 향상되는 효과가 있다. 따라서, 보드원료로서의 적합한 요건은 건전폐목재(제재, 합판)와 저급폐목재(PB, MDF)의 적정한 혼용에 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 건전폐목재 재생파티클과 재생 PB파티클의 혼용시험에서 제재파티클이 휨성질(MOR, MOE)과 박리강도에 기여하고, 합판파티클은 치수안정성에 더욱 기여하는 경향을 나타냈다. 또한 보드의 중층용 원료로 재생PB파티클의 혼합비율을 증가함에 따라서 보드의 휨성능이 감소되는 경향을 나타냈지만 혼합률 40%까지는 유의차가 없이 보드 15형(MOR : $153kgf/cm^2$, MOE : $27.5tonf/cm^2$) 수준의 성능이 구비되었다. 향후 생활폐목재(폐가구 등)와 같은 저급폐목재의 활용방안이 강구된다면 보드원료의 수급에 한층 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

Introduction of Wooden Kagome Structure to the Furniture Design

  • This study is carried out to introduce the concept of Kagome structure as the new trial for the furniture design and the feasibility of its utilization in furniture industry. Kagome means originally the two dimensional bamboo-basket woven pattern that is composed of interlaced triangles whose lattice points each have four neighboring points, which was used in traditional bamboo craft design like 'Jukbuin(bamboo-wife)'. Its unique truss structure has been widely used by many kinds of the domain of science and engineering in mechanical and architectural industry with some merits, i,e, material utilization efficiency and robust strength. Here we tried to introduce two dimensional and three dimensional form of Kagome which are supposed to be a furniture design elements. Authors think these Kagome design could be realized with domestic lumber of inferior properties. Both of them would be used as a decorative element or mechanical supporter in furniture design.

목재 초음파 전달속도에 대한 온도의 영향 (Temperature Effect on Ultrasonic Stress Wave Velocity of Wood)

  • Since ultrasonic stress wave velocity varies with wood temperature and moisture content, ultrasonic stress wave could be a tool to predict wood moisture content if temperature effect could be eliminated. This temperature effect was investigated by measuring the velocities of ultrasonic stress waves transmitting through air, a metal bar and a dimension lumber at various temperatures. For air the velocity and amplitude of the ultrasonic stress wave increase with temperature, while for a metal bar and a dimension lumber those decrease as temperature increases. However all three materials showed velocity hystereses with a temperature cycle. The effect of temperature and moisture content on stress wave velocity of a dimension lumber was depicted in the form of a three dimensional graph. The plot of stress wave velocity vs. wood moisture content was well fitted by two regression equations: a exponential equation below 46% and a linear equation above 46%.

4점 휨 시험에서 지간 거리에 따른 2×4 낙엽송 제재목의 휨 성능 변화 (Change of Bending Properties of 2×4 Larch Lumber According to Span Length in the Four Point Bending Test)

  • 4점 휨 시험에서 지간 길이에 따른 낙엽송 제재목의 휨 성능 변화를 알아보기 위하여 연구를 진행하였다. 연구에 사용된 시험편의 크기는 38(너비) ${\times}$ 89(깊이) ${\times}$ 3,600(길이) $mm^3$이며, 평균 기건 밀도와 함수율은 각각 $543.5kg/m^3$, 10.5%이었다. 낙엽송 육안 등급 1등급 248본을 두 그룹으로 나눠, 지간 거리 1,650 mm와 3,000 mm에서 휨 실험을 진행하여 휨 강도와 휨 탄성계수를 도출하였다. 휨 탄성계수는 유의 수준 5%에서 지간 거리에 따라 차이가 없다고 판단된 반면 휨 강도는 차이가 있었으며, 지간에 반비례하였다. 지간 거리 1,650와 3,000 mm에서 휨 강도의 5% 하한치는 각각 28.65와 25.70 MPa로 확인되었다. 지간 거리에 따른 휨 강도 차이는 백분위 수가 증가함에 따라 커지는 것으로 확인되었으며, 이는 와이블 최약 링크 파손 이론에 의한 치수 효과 때문으로 사료된다. 따라서 지간 대 깊이 비가 15 이상으로만 제한되어 있는 목구조용 실대재 휨 시험법(KS F 2150)에 치수 효과를 고려할 수 있는 방법이 포함되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. 이를 통해 다양한 치수의 제재목에서 얻어지는 강도를 설계 값에 반영할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Evaluation of Strength Properties for Bolted Connections with Lumber from Small Diameter Logs

  • EYM (European Yield Model), which was adopted in NDS (National Design Specification for wood construction), has been used in Korea without any verification of the analysis of bolted wood connections. In the case of applying lumber from domestic small diameter logs, however, there are some problems with the direct application of EYM ; 1) relatively low dowel bearing strength and dimensional stability due to a large amount of immature wood, 2) effect of MC (moisture contents) on the dowel bearing strength of wood and the yield load of a bolted connection. To evaluate the strength properties of bolted connections with lumber from domestic small diameter logs, effect of MC on the dowel bearing strength of wood was investigated and double shear bolted connection tests were performed. As the MC of wood increased, the dowel bearing strength was linearly reduced, even under 19% MC, which showed that adjustment, not considered in NDS, was required. Double shear bolted connection tests indicated that effect of MC on yield load should be considered in order to determine design value.

Physical and Mechanical Properties and Fire-endurance Characteristics of Recycled Particleboards

  • In this study, fire-retardant chemicals were melt with mixed composition ratios of dibasic ammonium phosphate and each half of boric acid and borax in hot water, in which hammer-milled chips were immersed to increase swelling of waste particleboards. Also, fire-retardant treated particles from sawn lumber chip and recycled particleboard chip were composed in ratio of 70:30 in core layer to improve boards' properties. Retention ratio of fire-retardant chemicals for the particles for face layer was high due to high specific surface area, and that of sawn lumber chips was somewhat higher than that of recycled particleboard chips. The mixture of particles from sawn lumber chips and recycled PB of 70:30 in weight ratio exceeded bending strength of 100 $kgf/cm^2$. It seemed that the relatively greater portions of dibasic ammonium phosphate affected adversely to dimensional stability, however fire-retardants treatment resulted in distinct effect lowering formaldehyde emission such as $E_0$ type(0.5mg/$\ell$ or less) in KS F 3104. In fire-retardancy, the recycled boards with a mixed ratio of dibasic ammonium phosphate to boric acid borax(50:50 mixture) of 70% to 30% in weight satisfied fire-retardancy 3rd grade in KS F 2271, and also this composition from cone calorimeter test met same standard grade figuring total heat release of 4.6MJ/$m^2$.

Determining Shear Modulus of 3-ply Laminated Veneer Lumber by Uniaxial Tension Test

  • Estimation equations of shear modulus in the plane of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) were compared each other through uniaxial tension test results. The equations - basic elastic equation in the dimensional orthotropic case, Hankinson's formula and empirical equation proposed by Salikis and Falk, were applied to determine the elastic constants at various angles to the grain, which were needed for determination of shear modulus. Tensile elastic modulus of LVL predicted from these equations were compared with test data to evaluate the accuracy of the equation. Tensile elastic modulus rapidly decreased at orientations between 0 and 15 degrees and elastic modulus at grain angles of 15, 30, and 45 degrees overestimated in the presented equations. But the proposed equation by Salikis and Falk showed better prediction, especially at 30, and 45 degrees. This proposed formula would be more useful and practical for estimating of shear modulus of wood composites like LVL to minimize the effect of Poisson's ratio term.

열처리 잣나무 정각재의 재색 변화 및 물성 조사 (Investigation of the Color Change and Physical Properties of Heat-treated Pinus koraiensis Square Lumbers)

  • 국내의 주 생산 수종인 잣나무 $90{\times}90mm$ 각재의 적정한 열처리 조건을 찾기 위해 3가지 열처리 스케줄을 적용하여 재색과 물성에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 1차 열처리시 온도는 $170^{\circ}C$$190^{\circ}C$, 시간은 예비가열시간 1시간을 포함하여 9시간과 13시간을 적용하였다. 2차와 3차 열처리는 모든 공시 각재에 동일하게 $190^{\circ}C$-9시간을 적용하였다. 열처리 횟수가 증가할수록 백색도 $L^*$는 직선적으로 감소하였으며 표준편차도 감소하였다. 열처리 횟수가 증가할수록 색차 ${\Delta}E^*$는 직선적으로 증가하였으며, 표준편차가 커지는 경향이 있었다. 알려진 바와 달리 열처리 시편의 평균 종압축강도가 무처리 시편보다 9% 높았다. 항팽윤율과 중량증가율을 측정하여 열처리 시편의 치수안정성이 무처리보다 크게 증가하였음을 보였다.

무선 센서를 활용한 요추 가동 범위의 실시간 3차원 측정 (Real-time 3-Dimensional Measurement of Lumbar Spine Range of Motion using a Wireless Sensor)

  • Lumber spine range of motion has been used to measure of physical and functional impairment by various tools from a ruler to 3D kinematic devices. However, pre-existing tools have problems in either movement or accuracy and reliability limitations. Accurate devices are limited by fixed space whereas simple devices are limited in measuring complex movements with less accuracy. In order to solve the location, movement and accuracy limitations at once, we have developed a novice measurement device equipped with accelerometer sensor and gyroscope sensor for getting three-dimensional information of motion. Furthermore, Kalman filter was applied to the algorithm to improve accuracy. In addition, RF wireless communication was added for the user to conveniently check measured data in real time. Finally, the measurement method was improved by considering the movement by a reference point. An experiment was conducted to test the accuracy and reliability of the device by conducting a test-retest reliability test. Further modification will be conducted to used the device in various joints range of motion in clinical settings in the future.

고속 PIV계측에 의한 실린더 근접후류 공진 유동 가시화 (Visualization of Vortex Lock-on to Oscillatory Incident Flow in the Cylinder Wake Using Time-Resolved PIV)

  • Vortex lock-on or resonance behind a circular cylinder is visualized using a time-resolved PW when a single frequency oscillation is superimposed on the mean incident velocity. For vector processing, a cross-correlation algorithm in conjunction with a recursive correlation and interrogation window shifting techniques is used. Measurements are made of the Karmas and streamwise vertices in the wake-transition regime at Reynolds lumber 360. When lock-on occurs, the vortex shedding frequency is found to be half the oscillation frequency as expected from previous experiments. At the lock-on state, the Karman vortices are observed to be more disordered by the increased strength and spanwise wavelength of the streamwiee vortices, which lead? to a strong three-dimensional motion.
