  • A case of an iatrogenic spinal arteriovenous fistula with progressive paraplegia in a young woman is reported. The fistula was eventually created after repetitive lumbar punctures performed in the process of spinal anaesthesia. Her symptoms were progressed to paraplegia over a period of 2 years. The digital subtraction angiography demonstrated a single-hole fistula, involving the anterior spinal artery and vein. The lesion was occluded by embolization with immediate improvement. The potential mechanism is discussed.

  • Detection of left ventricular boundary for the functional analysis of LV(left ventricle)is obtained using automatic boundary detection algorithm based on dynamic programming method. This scheme reduces the edge searching time and ensures connective edge detection, since it does not require general edge operator, edge thresholding and linking process of other edge. detection methods. The left ventricular diastolic volume and systolic volume and systolic volume were computed after this automatic boundary detection, and these Volume data wm applied to analyze LV ejection fraction.

  • A unilateral pulmonary artery agenesis, which develops occasionally as one of the associated anomalies in congenital cardiovascular defect like as tetralogy of Fallot, is very rare anomaly as an isolated congenital defect. The diagnostic approach for the pulmonary artery agenesis is first suggested by the unique appearance of the involved lung on a routinely checked chest roentgenogram, because most patients are asymptomatic unless pulmonary infection had been superimposed. We have recently experienced a case of left pulmonary artery agenesis, which was diagnosed by perfusion scan, digital subtraction angiogram and then treated by left pneumonectomy in a 9 year-old boy, and presented hereby with the review of relevant literature.

  • The goal of this research is to provide a practical algorithm for outlining the left ventricular cavity in digital subtraction angiography. The proposed algorithm is based on the elliptic approximation and ML (Maximum Likelihood) estimate, and it produces a good results regarding execution time, robustness against noise, accuracy, and range of position of ROI (Regions Of Interest).

  • One of the problems on the application of the speech recognition system in the real world is the degradation of the performance by acoustical distortions. The most important source of acoustical distortion is the additive noise. This paper describes a spectral compensation technique based on a spectral peak enhancement scheme followed by an efficient noise subtraction scheme for noise robust speech recognition. The proposed methods emphasize the formant structure and compensate the spectral tilt of the speech spectrum while maintaining broad-bandwidth spectral components. The recognition experiments was conducted using noisy speech corrupted by white Gaussian noise, car noise, babble noise or subway noise. The new technique reduced the average error rate slightly under high SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) environment, and significantly reduced the average error rate by 1/2 under low SNR(10 dB) environment when compared with the case of without spectral compensations.

  • Magnetization is very important in the ferro-magnetic physics and provides useful informations in the application field of magnetic devices. Generally, the only first acquired domain pattern is not helpful to recognize domain pattern. Many images are needed to visualize domain pattern through image processing. These images were obtained a 8-bit digital camera. The operation was the subtraction of pixel values of multi domain imanges from the images with 255 of pixel value, which was obtained in the saturated state of magnetic materials. The magnetic domain images was visualized gradually with increasing the number of subtracion operation. LABVIEW was used as an image processing tool and the optic microscope with a polarizer was used in this experiment.

  • Purpose: This study is to evaluate the clinical significance of the platform switching concept by comparing the marginal bone loss around platform-matched and platform-switched implants. Materials and Methods: Date of implant placement, diameter, length, implant-abutment connection type and absence of splinting prosthesis were investigated on patients who performed treatment with implant placement at Wonkwang University Dental Hospital Implant Center. To measure the marginal bone loss around implants, periapical radiographs of patient were used when implant was placed and when visited the center most recently by using the program, Emago advanced v5.6. Results: As a result of observing on 150 implants of 82 patients for 6 - 63 months, platform-matched implants showed $1.16{\pm}0.54mm$, platform-switched implants showed $0.68{\pm}0.27mm$ of marginal bone loss. Conclusion: It was considered that there is the positive effect to reduce marginal bone loss around platform-switched implants.
