  • The purpose of this study is to know about the interference on FM Radio channel from HD Radio signal. In Korea, a data service channel, named DARC is operated by a major FM radio broadcaster which has national wide service area. Therefore, an analysis of the interference on FM radio channel with DARC data channel from HD Radio, most recently developed digital radio system. Technical parameters of FM radio with DARC data channel and HD Radio system are considered for this simulation. As results some interference generated because of HD Radio signal according to its signal allocation and service mode of HD Radio.

  • Analog medias are converting to digital with the development of the digital communications. The Korean radio broadcasting services yet on analog and the research for the digital radio is progressing. The digital conversion of radio broadcasting has already progressed in foreign countries because of the technical limitation of analog broadcasting(The radio-frequency efficiency is poor). DAB is one of the digital radio mode, it doesn't use on AM/FM band and uses on T-DMB frequency band. So, it has an advantage of being able to broadcast with the existing radio without interference at once. On the other hand, it has the potential to cause interference to existing T-DMB broadcasting. In this paper, we propose an efficient DAB channel allocation method for digital radio on T-DMB frequency band. This paper allocates the DAB channel without interference to existing T-DMB broadcasting and proves the proposed method through simulations for the interference analysis.

  • This paper provides field test results to confirm and compare the receiving characteristics of digital radio in various environments. HD Radio and DRM+ was used for the in-band method, while DAB/DAB+/T-DMB were used for the out-of-band method. To run field tests for digital radio, a transceiver test bed was constructed in a region in Korea selected as suitable for the testing, and indoor and outdoor reception tests were conducted by selecting 16 test points with different levels of multipath. Not only was the receivability tested at the test point, but ATT margin was also applied, in order to derive the minimum reception level. Through various analyses, the findings obtained through the field tests can aid in the setting of a standard for determining the method of digital radio transmission to ensure a smooth reception environment for consumers.

  • DAB is meeting with mixed success. Denmark is performing similarly to the UK thanks to the innovation of the public broadcaster but where DAB is not so strong, the problem can usually be pointed at the lack of enabling regulation. The UK's example, whilst not appropriate everywhere, has valuable lessons including licensing incentives for existing analogue commercial broadcasters and a market-building obligation on the national multiplex licensee. Despite the obvious success of DAB, it would be an omission to leave some of the continued criticisms unanswered, whether of its slow start or the underlying technology. True, there was much over-optimism in the mid-1990s, coupled with unrealistic promises and expectations of receiver pricing and consumer take-up. Governments across Europe have legislated for DAB digital radio in a variety of ways but few as successfully as the UK. It is essential that both public and private broadcasters are encouraged equally to participate in digital radio. The UK is fortunate because, for the last 10 years, there has been a progressive government policy towards digital broadcasting. The 1996 Broadcasting Act set out a full licensing regime for both digital television and digital radio. The 1996 UK legislation contained a number of key elements which have been cornerstones of its success. DAB digital radio began test broadcasting around ten years ago but it has not been a universal consumer success across Europe. In the UK, however, digital radio receivers are one of the fastest-selling consumer electronics products and sales have overtaken those of analogue radios. Why has the UK succeeded with DAB digital radio when other European countries have yet to see their markets take off? This article explains what steps the UK took to make DAB digital radio a success.

  • The Korean radio broadcasting system is analog. Digital Radio will transmit a digital signal to existing analog FM/AM. It provides clear sound quality, traffic information, weather information and various value-added services. In addition, the converted digital radio will be able to meet demand to growing demand for analog FM. DRM + is an area to place, depending on the frequency of usage to less interference can be placed anywhere. In this paper, DRM + system, a brief description, and is currently using the frequency status were described, accordingly DRM + candidate channel derived measures proposed, the existing analog broadcast and DRM + of interference effects through the simulation has been verified.

  • In this paper, a novel MDI(Multiplex Distribution Interface) analyzer is designed in Ethernet-mode for DRM(Digital Radio Mondiale), and DRM+(Digital Radio Mondiale Plus) systems. The proposed MDI analyzer can reduce the overload of MDI packets by using memory sharing techniques into a common module block. In consequence, it verifies the received MDI packets by composition information of IP(Internet Protocol) and FAC(Fast Access Channel)/SDC(Service Description Channel) in DRM/DRM+ systems for the next generation digital radio broadcasting systems.

  • This paper presents an investigation of satellite radio access technology for beyond IMT-2000 systems. Although we could not see any active role of a satellite system in the 3G networks, satellite system will provide strong advantages in future systems for certain applications. Because a satellite link has longer round trip delay than a terrestrial link, we need technologies that would make the satellite component especially efficient. After presenting the satellite radio interface of the 3G system, we suggest several points which need to be considered in the beyond 3G systems. We also suggest a few candidate technologies with various simulation results.

  • The analogue radio broadcasting was proven to be a successful and efficient media of delivering information because of free content and wide availability of cheap receivers. But the competition was more dropped than any other media due to the limited amount of radio spectrum that is available. The risk of doing nothing is to miss the opportunity and to loss existing audiences in the long term, or to be locked into inefficient proprietary systems. That is the reason why it is important to act now. It is time for regulators and market participants to hone their strategies, by clearly establishing factors to adopt the digital radio and to facilitate its diffusion. The purpose of this study is to find adoption factors that affected to potential users of digital radio broadcasting. Former research based on diffusion of innovation theory showed that adoption of innovation is affected by demographic variables, media usage and consumer's attitude of innovation. In this study based on a consumer survey, we examined those factors and characteristics of each steps that suggested in diffusion of innovation theory. The findings of this study have implications to explore the suitable technologies and services of digital radio broadcasting.

  • Since smart phones are widely used globally, the demand for high-speed mobile communications are increasing. To accommodate the increased communication demand, the next-generation mobile communication services such as LTE-Advanced are deployed. In the LTE-Advanced base stations, the base station schemes of Digital Unit (DU) and Radio Unit (RU) are widely used. Here, the link between DU and RU is called fronthaul link. In the current fronthaul link, a digital optical communication interface is used, which is called Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI). However, the CPRI link cannot support the increased mobile traffic efficiently. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate an alternative technology based on the Radio over Fiber (RoF) to accommodate the increased mobile traffic economically.
