  • In this paper, as one of countermeasure techniques for a frequency selective fading, an adaptive analog slope equalizer(ASE) applicable to 64-QAM digital radio relay system is presented in terms of principle, implementation, and its performance. Also interference of cross-talk between I- and Q-channel caused by a fiequency selective lading has been analyzed by doing channel model in the baseband, which make it possible to derive the solution for implementing ASE in If-band. The effects of signal for the faded channel are investigated in the time and the frequency domains, respectively, with/without ASE. As system performance, it is shown that the signature is improved up to 6.2 dB at the edge of signal bandwidth for a given BER 10$\^$-3/.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid transceiver for underwater acoustic communication, which allows the system to reduce complexity and increase robustness in time variant underwater channel environments. It is designed in the digital domain except for amplifiers and implemented by using a multiple digital signal processors (DSPs) system. The digital modulation technique is quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) and frame synchronization is an energy (non-coherent) detection scheme based on the quadrature receiver structure. DSP implementation is based on block data parallel architecture (BDPA). We shaw experimental results in th? underwater anechoic basin at KRISO. The results indicate that the frame synchronization is performed without PLL. Also, we shaw that the adaptive equalizer can compensate frame synchronization error and the correction capability is dependent on the length of equalizer.

  • In this thesis, to cope with severe intersymbol interference and nonlinear distotions of the digital magnetic recording channel a neural decision feedback equalizer (NDFE) and an adaptive neural equalizer (NE) are applied. The digital magnetic recording channels with various recording densities and different types of the nonlinear distortions are considered. The computer simulation shows that as the nonlinear distortion is increased, the neural equalizers (NdFE, NE) have advantages of approximately 2-4 dB in signal to noise ratio (SNR) over the onventional eualizers to reach sme bit error rate and, a sthe recording density is increased, 1~5 dB of SNR improvement are also gained. Especially the NdFE gives a superior performance over the other equalizers when there is a severe nonlinear distortion in the digital magnetic channel.

  • ITU-R B.O. 1130-4 Digital System E adopted for Korean satellite DMB service is a multimedia broadcasting system based on DS-CDM-QPSK technique which broadcasts audio and video contents via the satellite or terrestrial gap-filler. However, Digital System E can not provide full loading services because the multi-channel interference (MCI) is increased due to the loss of orthogonality between signature waveforms in multipath fading channels. In this paper a chip equalizer using tap selection algorithm that enhances the receiving performance is proposed and compared to the conventional rake receiver for the satellite DMB system.

  • This paper proposes a self organizing RBF neural network equalizer for the equalization of digital communications. It is the most important for the equalizer using the RBF neural network to estimate the RBF centers correctly and quickly, which are the desired channel states. However, the previous RBF equalizers are not used in the actual communication system because of some drawbacks that the number of channel states has to be known in advance and many centers are necessary. Self organizing neural network equalizer proposed in this paper can implement the equalization without prior information regarding the number of channel states because it selects RBF centers among the signals that are transmitted to the equalizer by the new addition and removal criteria. Furthermore, the proposed equalizer has a merit that is able to make a equalization with fewer centers than those of prior one by the course of the training using LMS and clustering algorithm. In the linear, nonlinear and standard telephone channel, the proposed equalizer is compared with the optimal Bayesian equalizer for the BER performance, the symbol decision boundary and the number of centers. As a result of the comparison, we can confirm that the proposed equalizer has almost similar performance with the Bavesian enualizer.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the performance enhancement of OFDM/QPSK-DMR(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing/Quadrature Phase Shift Keying Modulation-Digital Microwave Radio)system using BL-PSF(Band Limited-Pulse Shaping Filter) over the microwave channel. For performance enhancement, we apply the one-tap adaptive equalizer for OFDM/QPSK-DMR system and compare with the BER performance of single carrier DMR system. Computer simulations confirm that the OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using one-tap adaptive equalizer has the same BER performance for the single carrier DMR system.

  • In this paper, a complex fuzzy adaptive decision feedback equalizer(CFADFE) based on the LMS algorithm is proposed. The propoed equalizer is based on the complex fuzzy adaptive equalizer. The CFADFE isconstructed from a set of changeable complex fuzzy IF-THEN rules, where the 'IF' part of the rule is characterized by the state from a set of changealble complex fuzzy IF-THEN rules, where the 'IF' part of the rule is characterized by the state of the desision feedback. the role of decision feedback is to reduce the computational complexity. Computer simulation of the decision feedback. The role of decision feedback is to reduce the computational complexity. Computer simulation shosw that the CFADFE notonly reduces the computational complexity but also improves the performance compared with the conventional complex fuzzy adaptive equalizers. We also show that the adaptation speed is greatly improved by incorporating some linguistic information about the channel into the equalzer. It is applied to M-ary QAM digital communication system with linear and nonlinear complex channel characteristics.

  • In this paper, proposed is the dual-mode algorithm of blind decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for digital terrestrial television signals. According to channel impairments, the proposed dual-mode algorithm for blind DFE operates in decision-directed mode or in blind mode of operation. The error signals being used in tap update of the equalizer are generated in the best mode of operations, so that the confidence of equalizer tap coefficient update is more accurate. As a result, it is possible to track the channel characteristics variations by automatic switching over between two modes of operations. For 8-level vestigial sideband modulated digital television signals, the mean square errors and symbol error rates of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of conventional methods. And the usability of the proposed scheme is assessed by computer simulations under various static and dynamic multipath channel environments.

  • The increase in the capacity of the digital magnetic recording systems inevitably causes severe intersymbol interference (ISI) and nonlinear distortions in the digital magnetic recording channel. In this paper, to cope with severe ISI and nonlinear distortions a neural decision feedback equalizer (NDFE) is applied to the digital magnetic recording channel - partial erasure channel model. In the performance comparison of bit error probability (or bit error ratio : BER) between the NDFE and the conventional decision feedback equalizer (DFE) via computer simulations. It has been found that as nonlinear distortions increase the NDFE has more SNR (SIgnal-to-Noise Ratio) advantage over the conventional DFE. In addition, in spite of the same recording density, as nonlinear distortions are increased, NDFE has the better performance of BER and the greater stability over conventional DFE.

In transmitting data at a high speed, the main problem is fading by multipath. A linear or nonlinear distortion arise In multipath channel fading from ISI(Intersymbol Interference). For restoring this distorted signal, A lot of equalizer and adaptive algorithm is introduced. This paper compares and analysises, for improving communication quality in channel which is long delay spread, performance of decision feedback equalizer by RLS algorithm, a channel estimation by RLS-MLSE and viterbi equalizer Particularly, there Is exactly channel estimation of impluse response and excellent property of equalization about channel, which delay spread is long impluse response comparatively and is property of non-minimun phase.
