  • This paper presents the improvement for speed characteristics of a Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM), it was applied to digital PI control for this. The practical PID control has been widely used to velocity control of DC motors. In this paper, a digital PI controller is used in order to decrease the speed error in constant velocity control of BLDCM. A TMS320C31 DSP is used for the microprocessor of digital PI control. The method using the DSP carry out the real-time control. The DSP has the rapid calculation ability and sampling time used lms. Driving BLDCM used 50W, motor input DC 150V and rotation speed 3000rpm. When BLDCM is to approval for discretion velocity at the acceleration and deceleration driving with any load, it was a feasible for stabilization control. Therefore, the experimental results indicate the superiority and validity of the velocity control by digital PI control.

  • This paper presents a firing angle controller of a thyristor converter for DC power supply using PID controller with parallel data loop to improve the dynamic response. The proposed parallel data loop for firing angle controller of 3-phase semi-converter, generates pre-measured firing angle according to reference voltage and load current. With the approximated firing angle according to operating conditions, the output voltage can fast keep the reference value with small voltage error. And the PID controller compensates the output voltage error from the firing angle of parallel data loop. In order to reduce the sudden changing of the data from current ripple, a simple digital low pass filter is used to determine the output data. The proposed control scheme is verified by the experimental test of a practical 50[A] grade thyristor converter system.

  • As high quality image is required for digital cameras in recent use, the image stabilization technique has drawn much attention to prevent image degradation from shaky disturbance by users. In this paper, the optical image stabilization (OIS) system for DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is considered. First, the analytic model of an OIS system is presented to demonstrate the mechanism of image destabilization due to unknown disturbance that causes blurry images on CCD sensor. Then, to enhance the stabilization performance, a sliding mode control based on the min-max nonlinear control is introduced. Through the experiments and simulations, the effectiveness of the proposed method will be verified.

  • In order to establish the robust current controller design technique of series wound motor driver system. This paper proposes a method of compensated Bang-Bang current control using a series wound motor driver system under improperly variable load. To get minimum time torque control. A compensated Bang-Bang current controller structure is simpler than the structure of PID plus Bang-Bang controller. This paper shows that a general 8 bits microprocessor be used efficiently implementing such an algorithm. The calculation time of software is extremely small when compared with conventional PID plus Bang-Bang a controller. Both nonlinear operating characteristics of Digital switching elements and Describing Function methods are used for the analysis and synthesis. Real time implementation of compensated Bang-Bang current is achieved. Concept design strategy of the control and PWM waveform generation algorithms are presented in the paper.

  • A newly developed discrete-time control design method for impact machines is proposed. It is composed of identification and control using neural networks, where the optimal controller with saturationn and no use of velocity measurements is obtained. By computer simulation, the proposed method is demonstrated to be effective: as the training progresses, the cost function becomes smaller, the proposed control is superior to PID control tuned with Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) parameters; robust performance with respect to uncertainty, disturbances and working time is so good.

  • This paper describes a new method for a digital gas metal arc welding (GMAW) system. The GMAW system is an arc welding process that incorporates the GMAW power source (PS-GMAW) with a wire feed unit (WFU). The PS-GMAW requires an electric power of constant voltage. A constant magnitude is maintained for the arc current by controlling the wire-feed speed of the WFU. A mathematical model is derived, and a self-tuning fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is designed and applied to control the welding current. The electrode wire feeding mechanism with this controller is driven by a DC motor, which can compensate for both the molten part of the electrode and undesirable fluctuations in the arc length during the welding process. By accurately maintaining the output welding current and welding voltage at constant values during the welding process, excellent welding results can be obtained. Simulation and experimental results are shown to prove the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • A systematic procedure to design fuzzy PID controllers is developed in this paper. The concept of local fuzzy control cell is proposed by introducing both an adequate global control rule and membership functions to simplify a fuzzy logic controller. Fuzzy decision is made by using algebraic product and parallel firing arithematic mean, and a defuzzification strategy is adopted for improving the computational efficiency based on nonfuzzy micro-processor. A direct method, transforming the typical output of quasi-linear fuzzy operator to the digital compensator of PID form, is also proposed. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to an DC-servo motor. It is found that this algorithm is systematic and robust through computer simulations and implementation of controller using Intel 8097 micro-processor.

  • Performance of photovoltaic (PV) generator systems relies on its operating conditions. Maximum power extracted from PV generators depends strongly on solar irradiation, load impedance, and ambient temperature. A most maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is based on a perturb and observe method and an incremental conductance method. It is well known the latter is better in terms of dynamics and tracking characteristics under condition of rapidly changing solar irradiation. However, in case of digital implementation, the latter has some error for determining a maximum power point. This paper presents a PID based MPPT algorithm for such PV systems. We use neural network technique for determining PID parameters by online learning approach. And we construct a boost converter to regulate the output voltage from PV generator system. Computer simulation is carried out to evaluate the proposed MPPT method and we accomplish comparative study with a perturb and observe based MPPT method to prove its superiority.

  • In this paper, a digital controller of magnetic bearing system for a high vacuum turbomolecular pump (TMP) is designed and examined. For stabilizing and providing damping in magnetic bearing, the digital PID controller is applied for each 5 control axes, and the inter-axis cross feedback controller is also applied to suppress low frequency vibration caused by gyroscopic moment of the rotor at high speed of rotation. The fabricated rotor-shaft has its first flexible natural frequency lower than maximum speed, about 614Hz, so the two lead filters are applied to increase damping of flexible mode. Notch filters with rotating frequency were selected to reduce vibration of the pump housing caused by unbalance load. The implemented controllers are verified by examination of frequency response and rotating test up to 40,000 rpm, which is higher than critical speed of backward flexible mode.
