  • Unlike wired endoscopy, capsule endoscopy requires additional time for a clinical specialist to review the operation and examine the lesions. To reduce the tedious review time and increase the accuracy of medical examinations, various approaches have been reported based on artificial intelligence for computer-aided diagnosis. Recently, deep learning-based approaches have been applied to many possible areas, showing greatly improved performance, especially for image-based recognition and classification. By reviewing recent deep learning-based approaches for clinical applications, we present the current status and future direction of artificial intelligence for capsule endoscopy.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health problems in clinical nurses through an examination of their auricular acupuncture points. Methods: Data were collected from 90 nurses working in D city. Participants' ears were photographed and their auricular points were analyzed. Data analysis was performed by descriptive statistics and the $x^2$ test. Results: Musculoskeletal problems were the most severe, followed by problems of the digestive, nervous, and reproductive systems, in that order. Furthermore, the average number of health problems was 5.22, with a range of 4 to 6. Leg/foot pain was the highest reported musculoskeletal problem, followed by shoulder and lumbar/back pain. Gastric ptosis was the highest reported digestive problem, followed by indigestion and hypersensitive colitis. Additionally, among participants with gastric ptosis, lumbar pain was significantly high. Conclusion: The results suggest that further research using an auricular points as a diagnosis and treatment point is necessary to improve the health of nurses.

  • Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs) are relatively uncommon soft tissue sarcomas that can be located in any part of the digestive system. GISTs originate in specialized nerve cells located in the walls of the digestive system. This case report is about a 53-year-old airman who was recently diagnosed as peritoneal GISTs. He got a surgical removal of the tumor and chemotherapy, including imatinib (Gleevec®). Although his GISTs have shown excellent clinical progress, he still needs ongoing treatment. This case involves an airline pilot applicant for Class-I medical certification who has had GISTs under chemotherapy.

  • Since the 1990s, serrated polyps have been established to contribute to intermediate cancer development, and their importance has begun to be recognized. Serrated polyps are morphologically difficult to detect through endoscopy, and an effective resection method has not been established. Among serrated polyps, studies on sessile serrated lesions, with a relatively high risk of colorectal cancer transformation and detected with difficulty, are in progress. Studies to date describe the endoscopic features as mucus cap, surface debris or stool, attenuation of underlying vasculature, cloud-like surface, dark spots in crypts, and ill-defined irregular border. Additionally, it is expected that relatively large serrated polyps can be safely removed through cold snare resection. A plan for an effective management of serrated polyps through continuous research in the future is warranted.

  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an invasive endoscopic technique that has many diagnostic and therapeutic implications. It is a procedure with small but significant life-threatening complications. To ensure the best possible care, minimize complications, and improve the quality of health care, a constant review of the performance of the operator using ideal benchmark standards is needed. Hence, quality indicators are necessary. The American and European Societies of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy have provided guidelines on quality measures for ERCP, which describe the skills to be developed and training to be implemented in performing quality ERCP. These guidelines have divided the indicators into pre-procedure, intraprocedural, and post-procedure measures. The focus of this article was to review the quality indicators of ERCP.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to report the efficacy of Korean medicine with Jeongri-tang Gagam-bang for treating psoriasis. Methods: A patient with psoriasis was treated with Jeongri-tang Gagam-bang (正理湯加減方). Moreover, acupuncture was performed on CV12 (中脘) and both sides of ST25 (天樞), GV20 (百會), LI4 (合谷), and LR3 (太衝) for 15 minutes. Psoriasis severity was assessed using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI). Pruritis and dyspepsia intensities were ranked on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) of 0–10. Results: After treatment, the PASI changed from 21.6 to 1.6. Patient's pruritus had almost disappeared and dyspepsia had improved. Conclusions: This study shows that Jeongri-tang Gagam-bang (正理湯加減方) and acupuncture on CV12 (中脘), ST25 (天樞), GV20 (百會), LI4 (合谷), and LR3 (太衝) might be helpful to treat psoriasis symptoms by improving digestive function.
