  • The dynamics of the DDWMR depends on the velocity difference of the two driving wheels. And which is known as a type of non-holonomic equation. By this reason, the treatment of DDWMR had become difficult and conservative. In this paper, the differential-driving wheeled mobile robot is considered. The Takaki-Surgeno fuzzy model and a control method for DDWMR is presented. The suggested controller has three control elements. The first element is fuzzy state feedback designed for eliminating the dependence of time-varying parameter. The second element is weighting controller which is designed for good frequency response. The third controller is PI-controller which is designed for good command following and robustness with un-modeled dynamics. In order for achieving the performance objective, the design of controller is based on the loop-shaping algorithm.

  • In this paper, a novel feasible real-time system was researched for a differential driven wheeled autonomous mobile robot so that the mobile robot can move in a smooth, safe and elegant way. Least Square Minimum Path Planning was well used for the system to generate a smooth executable path for the mobile robot, and the point-to-point tracking algorithm was presented as well as its application in arbitrary path tracking. In order to make sure the robot can run elegantly and safely, trapezoidal speed was integrated into the point-to-point path tracking algorithm. The application to guest following for the autonomous mobile robot shows its wide application of the algorithm. The novel design was successfully proved to be feasible by our experiments on our mobile robot Interactive Robot Usher (IRU) in National University of Singapore.

  • Traditional automobile or 2-wheeled robot have limitations on mobility because of their mechanical structure. As traditional automobile is being replaced by electric cars, robot technology is applied to the car industry. In robotics, many researchers worked on omnidirectional mobile robot and produced lots of noticeable results. However in many of the results, specialized wheels such as Mecanum wheels are required. That imposes restrictions on robot speed and outdoor driving. We proposed a 2-wheeled modular robot that has omnidirectional mobility without using specialized wheels. In this paper, we propose a 4-wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot that consists of those two modular robots. The proposed robot adopts electric brakes to combine wheel housings and the robot body or to separate wheel housings from the robot body. Two absolute-type encoders and four incremental encoders are used to control the position of the wheel housing and velocities of the wheels. The proposed robot has omnidirectional mobility and can move fast and outdoor with normal tire wheels. We implemented the proposed robot and the feasibility and stability of the robot is verified by two separate experiments.

  • In this study a three-axes mobile robot which has two independently controlled driving wheels and a function of simultaneously steering the driving wheels has been developed. Two-motion modes of the mobile robot, the first is a differential velocity motion of two driving wheels and the second is a equal driving and steering motion, have been analyzed and the kinematic and dymanic analyses about the each motion mode have been carried out. As a result of dynamic analysis, the torque used on a motor control and acceleration have been derived explicitly. Hence, a computation time is saved effectively and a real time control of the mobile robot considering the dynamics has become possible. Through a simulation the results considering the dynamics have been compared with that no regarding the dynamics and the possibility of real-time control has been proved.

  • There are many researches in unmanned vehicles such as UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle), AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). In these researches, differential wheeled mobile robots are mainly used to develop the experimental stage algorithm because of the simplicity of modeling and control. Usually a commercial product used in the study, but in order to operate a commercial product to the restrictions because there would need to use a fixed protocol. Using the microprocessor makes the internal sensors(encoder and INS) and external sensors(ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors) operate and to determine commands for robot operation. This paper propose a mobile robot design for suitable purpose.

  • Accurate estimation of the robot's position has an important role in autonomous navigation. Odometry is one of the most widely used techniques for mobile robot positioning. However, odometry has a well-known drawback that the position errors are accumulated when the travel distance increases. The UMBmark method is the conventional odometry calibration scheme for two wheel differential mobile robots. In the UMBmark method, the approximations for small angles are used in order to simplify the calculations. In this paper, we propose the new calibration scheme by using experimental orientation errors. Kinematic parameters can be calculated accurately without approximations by using experimental orientation errors. The numerical simulation and experimental results show that the odometry accuracy can be improved by the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we present a global localization and position error compensation method in a known indoor environment using magnet hall sensors. In previous our researches, it was possible to compensate the pose errors of $x_e$, $y_e$, ${\theta}_e$ correctly on the surface of indoor environment with magnets sets by regularly arrange the magnets sets of identical pattern. To improve the proposed method, new strategy that can realize the global localization by changing arrangement of magnet pole is presented in this paper. Total six patterns of the magnets set form the unique landmarks. Therefore, the virtual map can be built by using the six landmarks randomly. The robots search a pattern of magnets set by rotating, and obtain the current global pose information by comparing the measured neighboring patterns with the map information that is saved in advance. We provide experimental results to show the effectiveness of the proposed method for a differential drive wheeled mobile robot.

  • This paper presents a maximum velocity trajectory planning algorithm for differential mobile robots with wheel velocity constraint to cope with physical limits in the joint space for two-wheeled mobile robots (TMR). In previous research, the convolution operator was able to generate a central velocity that deals with the physical constraints of a mobile robot while considering the heading angles along a smooth curve in terms of time-dependent parameter. However, the velocity could not track the predefined path. An algorithm is proposed to compensate an error that occurs between the actual and driven distance by the velocity of the center of a TMR within a sampling time. The velocity commands in Cartesian space are also converted to actuator commands to drive two wheels. In the case that the actuator commands exceed the maximum velocity the trajectory is redeveloped with the compensated center velocity. The new center velocity is obtained according to the curvature of the path to provide a maximum allowable velocity meaning a time-optimal trajectory. The effectiveness of the algorithm is shown through numerical examples.
