  • The theoretical framework of the interaction fields for multiple scales based on field theory is applied to one-dimensional problem mimicking dislocation substructure sensitive intra-granular inhomogeneity evolution under fatigue of Cu-added steels. Three distinct scale levels corresponding respectively to the orders of (A)dislocation substructures, (B)grain size and (C)grain aggregates are set-up based on FE-RKPM (reproducing kernel particle method) based interpolated strain distribution to obtain the incompatibility term in the interaction field. Comparisons between analytical conditions with and without the interaction, and that among different cell size in the scale A are simulated. The effect of interaction field on the B-scale field evolution is extensively examined. Finer and larger fluctuation is demonstrated to be obtained by taking account of the field interactions. Finer cell size exhibits larger field fluctuation whereas the coarse cell size yields negligible interaction effects.

  • A steel/cemented carbide couple is selected to generate a tough/hard two layers material. Sintering temperature and composition are deduced from phase equilibria, and experimental studies are used to determine optimal conditions. Liquid migration from the hard layer to the tough one is observed. Microstructure evolution during sintering of the tough material (TEM, SEM, image analysis) evidences coupled mechanisms of pore reduction and WC dissolution. Liquid migration, as well as interface crack formation due to differential densification are limited by suitable temperature and time conditions.

  • This study was investigated the thermal decomposition characteristics of azo type sponge blowing agent azodicarbonamide(ADCA) using differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). The experimental results showed that the exothermic onset $temperatures(T_{o})$ for ADCA were about $201{\sim}206^{\circ}C$ and evolution heats(Q) were about $144{\sim}150cal/g$. The exothermic onset $temperatures(T_{o})$, exothermic maximum $temperature(T_{m})$ and exothermic final $temperature(T_{f})$ were decreased by decreasing particle size of ADCA and evolution heats(Q) were increased with it. $T_{o}$ and Q for $6.1{\sim}7.2{\mu}m$ ADCA were increased by increasing heating rate at constant sample weight and activation energy was about 37.29kcal/mol. A positive gas pressure was employed in the elucidation of the decomposition behavior of ADCA because it sublimes during linear heating at atmospheric pressure. $T_{o}$ and Q of ADCA tended to increase with a pressure in air or nitrogen. In the case of azo dye, experimental results showed that $T_{o}$ were about $280{\sim}420^{\circ}C$ and Q were about $2{\sim}30cal/g$.

  • This article is concerned with effective numerical techniques for partial differential equation (PDE)-based image restoration. Numerical realizations of most PDE-based denoising models show a common drawback: loss of fine structures. In order to overcome the drawback, the article introduces a new time-stepping procedure, called the method of nonflat time evolution (MONTE), in which the timestep size is determined based on local image characteristics such as the curvature or the diffusion magnitude. The MONTE provides PDE-based restoration models with an effective mechanism for the equalization of the net diffusion over a wide range of image frequency components. It can be easily applied to diverse evolutionary PDE-based restoration models and their spatial and temporal discretizations. It has been numerically verified that the MONTE results in a significant reduction in numerical dissipation and preserves fine structures such as edges and textures satisfactorily, while it removes the noise with an improved efficiency. Various numerical results are shown to confirm the claim.

  • Silicone resin is recently used as encapsulant for high-power LED module due to its excellent thermal and optical properties. In the present investigation, finite element analysis of cure process was attempted to examine residual stress evolution behavior during silicone resin cure process which is composed of chemical curing and post-cooling. To model chemical curing of silicone, a cure kinetics equation was evaluated based on the measurement by differential scanning calorimeter. The evolutions of elastic modulus and chemical shrinkage during cure process were assumed as a function of the degree of cure to examine their effect on residual stress evolution. Finite element predictions showed how residual stress in cured silicone resin can be affected by elastic modulus and chemical shrinkage behavior. Finite element analysis is supposed to be utilized to select appropriate silicone resin or to design optimum cure process which brings about a minimum residual stress in encapsulant silicone resin.

  • We propose a new approach called PESA (Prioritized replay Evolutionary and Swarm Algorithms) combining prioritized replay of reinforcement learning with hybrid evolutionary algorithms. PESA hybridizes different evolutionary and swarm algorithms such as particle swarm optimization, evolution strategies, simulated annealing, and differential evolution, with a modular approach to account for other algorithms. PESA hybridizes three algorithms by storing their solutions in a shared replay memory, then applying prioritized replay to redistribute data between the integral algorithms in frequent form based on their fitness and priority values, which significantly enhances sample diversity and algorithm exploration. Additionally, greedy replay is used implicitly to improve PESA exploitation close to the end of evolution. PESA features in balancing exploration and exploitation during search and the parallel computing result in an agnostic excellent performance over a wide range of experiments and problems presented in this work. PESA also shows very good scalability with number of processors in solving an expensive problem of optimizing nuclear fuel in nuclear power plants. PESA's competitive performance and modularity over all experiments allow it to join the family of evolutionary algorithms as a new hybrid algorithm; unleashing the power of parallel computing for expensive optimization.

  • The differential rotational properties of early-type galaxies (ETGs) revealed by integral field spectroscopy surveys is arguably one of the most exciting findings in the galaxy evolution study during the past decade. Numerical studies have shown that galaxy mergers under various configurations can reproduce the observed distribution of ETG spin. However, we suggest an alternative scenario for the spin evolution of a large fraction of ETGs. Using the Horizon-AGN simulation, we follow the spin evolution of 10037 color-selected ETGs more massive than 1010 Msun that are divided into four groups: cluster centrals (3%), cluster satellites (33%), group centrals(5%), and field ETGs (59%). We find a strong mass dependence of the slow rotator fraction, fSR, and the mean spin of massive ETGs. Although the environmental dependence is not clear in the fSR, it is visible in the mean value of the spin parameter. The environmental dependence is driven by the satellite ETGs whose spin gradually decreases as their environment becomes denser. Galaxy mergers appear to be the main cause of total spin changes in 94% of central ETGs of halos with Mvir > 1012.5 Msun, but only 22% of satellite and field ETGs. We find that non-merger induced tidal perturbations better correlate with the galaxy spin-down in satellite ETGs than mergers. Given that the majority of ETGs are not central in dense environments, we conclude that non-merger tidal perturbation effects played a key role in the spin evolution of ETGs observed in the local (z < 1) universe.

  • This study confirmed the applicability to the field of geotechnical engineering for relatively complicated space and many target design variables in back analysis. The Sharan's equation and the Blum's method were used for the tunnel field and the retaining wall as a model for the multi-variate problem of geotechnical engineering. Optimization methods are generally divided into a deterministic method and a stochastic method. In this study, Simulated Annealing Method (SA) was selected as a deterministic method and Differential Evolution Algorithm (DEA) and Particle Swarm Optimization Method (PSO) were selected as stochastic methods. The three selected optimization methods were compared by applying a multi-variate model. The problem of deterministic method has been confirmed in the multi-variate back analysis of geotechnical engineering, and the superiority of DEA can be confirmed. DEA showed an average error rate of 3.12% for Sharan's solution and 2.23% for Blum's problem. The iteration number of DEA was confirmed to be smaller than the other two optimization methods. SA was confirmed to be 117.39~167.13 times higher than DEA and PSO was confirmed to be 2.43~6.91 times higher than DEA. Applying a DEA to the multi-variate back analysis of geotechnical problems can be expected to improve computational speed and accuracy.

  • We present the first results of a new data analysis pipeline for processing extragalactic AKARI/IRC images. The main improvements of the pipeline over the standard analysis are the removal of Earth shine and image distortion correction. We present the differential number counts of the AKARI/IRC S11 filter in the IRAC validation field. The differential number counts are consistent with S11 AKARI NEP deep and $12{\mu}m$ WISE NEP number counts, and with a phenomenological backward evolution galaxy model, at brighter fluxes densities. There is a detection of fainter galaxies in the IRAC validation field.

  • Four of non- isothermal methods evaluating kinetics have been studied by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG) and applied for kinetics of the thermal decomposition of cellulose. It is concluded that the heating evolution methods with DSC and approximative methods with TC can lead to satisfactory kinetic analysis. Results calculating the reacting order and the activation energy of cellulose decomposition were 1/2 order and 42kcaB/mol, respectively.
