  • the reduction of the interior nosie level has been the main interest of NVH engineers in the development of vehicles. However, the consumer's perception on the car noise is affected largely by the psychoacoustic characteristics of the noise, as well as the sound pressure level. In this study, the quality of the vehicle interior nosie is analyzed by employing the subjective evaluations and by representing them in temrs of the objective quantities. The subjective evaluatins were performed for the seven vehicles in the range of subcompact to luxury cars. The methods of paired comparisons and semantic differential were used to study the preference, the quality of interior noise and their correlation. The linear regression models were obtained for the subjective evaluation and the sound quality metrics.

  • In order to investigate the relationship between fabric sound parameters and subjective sensation, each sound from 60 fabrics was recorded and analyzed by Fast Fourier transform. Level pressure of total sound (LPT), three coefficients (ARC, ARF, ARE) of auto regressive models, loudness (Z), and sharpness (Z) by Zwickers model were estimated as sound parameters. For subjective evaluation, seven sensation (softness, loudness, sharpness, clearness, roughness, highness, and pleasantness) was rated by both semantic differential scale (SDS) and free modulus magnitude estimation (FMME). As the results, the ARC values were positively proportional to both LPT and loudness (Z) values. In both of SDS and FMME, softness, clearness, and pleasantness were negatively correlated with loudness, sharpness, roughness, and highness. In regression models, softness and clearness by FMME were negatively affected by LPT뭉 ARC, while loudness, sharpness, roughness, and highness were positively expected. Regression models for pleasantness showed low values for R2.

  • In this paper, we introduce cellular automata and propose a new block cipher algorithm based on cellular automata. For the evaluation of performance and security, we compare the results of the proposed algorithm with them of the standard block ciphers such as DES, Rijndael regarding on avalanche effects and processing time, and analyze the differential cryptanalysis for a reduction version of the proposed algorithm. In addition, we perform the statistical tests in FIPS PUB 140-2(Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 140-2) for the output bit sequences of proposed algorithm to guarantee the randomness property.

  • Railroad, the structure maintenance and restoration project was increased and widely performed in concrete pavement road and airport, building at downtown area, bridge abutment, and other concrete structures. Especially, the ground reinforcement technique by quick-reaction expansible resins is the most effective countermeasures against differential settlement and undesired deformation of structure. In this paper, the unconfined compressive strength and some environmental related tests were conducted to evaluate compressive strength and environmental effect of quick-reaction expansive resins and soil mixtures. Also, three case histories of concrete structure and railroad restoration project are presented. Based on the laboratory test, the quick-reaction expansible resins and soil mixture represent the sufficient compressive strength and the leachate material is satisfied the environmental regulation limits. As a result of this study, the structure restoration technology using quick-reaction expansible resins is very effective for restoration of differential settlement and deformation, and it is environmentally sustainable technology.

  • In this paper, the electronic differential system for electric vehicle using neural network is proposed and its performance is evaluated. The input features of NN are obtained by processing the encoder and potentiometer during driving. The 3 layered NN with back propagation algorithm has been used. Evaluation experiments show that the proposed controller is effective in controlling of unknown nonlinear plants.

  • The passive open-path Fourier-Transform-Infrared system was implemented for the toxic gas monitoring. Noise Equivalent Differential Temperature(NEDT) was investigated as a system performance evaluation figure and analyzed numerically with the designed parameters. Calculated NEDT was compared with the experimental value in the wavelength region of $700{\sim}1400cm^{-1}^$. The minimum detectable gas concentration was estimated from the obtained NEDT at the absorption wavelength of $SF_6$.

  • We developed a facial image generating technique that can manipulate facial impressions. The present study applied this impression transferring method to higher-order impressions such as "elegance" or "attractiveness" and confirmed the psychological validity of this method using the semantic differential method. Subsequently, we applied this method to two types of cognitive experiments. First, we examined the contributions of texture and shape on the facial impressions by using those face images for which the impressions have already been quantitatively manipulated based on this method. Second, we used such stimuli to examine the effect of facial impressions and attractiveness on the "mere exposure effect." Thus, we concluded that the impression transfer vector method is an effective tool to quantitatively manipulate the facial impressions in various cognitive studies.

  • In the present study, one of the widely applied equations for gas-solid cyclones, Leith and Licht model, was evaluated based on the 3-D CFD technique. The initial and boundary values of radial position and tangential velocity obtain-ed from the CFD simulation enabled complete calculation of the nonlinear second differential equation. This approach showed about 30% errors between calculations with and without the second order differential term. The calculation by using the simple first order equation presented shorter times to migrate up to the inner wall of the cyclone than by the second order, which theoretically implies higher separation efficiency. Further comparison is now under evaluation in terms of the detailed grade efficiency.

  • During the CareBeijing campaign in September 2006, Imaging Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (IDOAS) measurements were made over the city of Beijing, China using a spatial resolution of 146 pixels horizontally and 61 pixels vertically, each with a field of view of $0.133^{\circ}$ and $0.072^{\circ}$ in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. Using Fraunhofer reference spectra (FRS) for the evaluation of data for two consecutive days, the diurnal variation of $NO_2$ distributions was determined from data measured every single hour from 08:00 until 16:00 on September 9 and 10. Both days presented a fairly clear sky with high visibility. The setup allowed detailed images of the low surface $NO_2$ distribution over Beijing. Images with less than a 30-min temporal resolution showed variation of plume dispersal in both horizontal and vertical directions. An in-situ measurement was also conducted. Results from both instruments are interpreted by considering local emission sources and wind conditions.

  • When a truck cab is conveyed at a constant speed by a hanger and immersed into the painting reservoir, it may fall off from the hanger by buoyancy. In order to reduce the buoyancy, on the bottom of a cab panel are holes placed, which allow paint to flow into the inside of a cab. In this study, a differential equation is derived which can be solved numerically by using 4th-Order Runge-Kutta method to calculate transient behavior of the buoyant force with sizes and locations of the holes given. The solution is utilized to optimally determine sizes and locations of the holes.
