Implantable middle ear hearing devices(IMEHDs) have being actively studied to overcome the problems of conventional hearing aids. Vibration transducer, an output devices of IMEHDs, is attached on the ossicular chain and transmits mechanical vibration to cochlea. This approach allows us to hear more clear sound because mechanical vibration is effective to transfer high frequency acoustics, but occurs some problems such as fatigue accumulation to ossicular chian and reduction of vibration displacement caused by mass loading effect. Recently, many studies for the round window stimulation are announced, because it does not cause such problems. It have been studied by older transducers designed for attaching on ossicular chain. In this paper, we proposed a new electromagnetic transducer which consists of two magnets, three coils and a vibration membrane. The magnet assembly, magnet coupled in opposite direction, were placed in the center of three coils, and the optimum length of each coil generating maximum vibrational force was calculated by finite element analysis(FEA). The transducer was implemented as the calculated length of each coil, and measured vibration displacement. From the results, it is verified the vibration displacement can be improved by optimizing the length of coils.
Background: Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is a common renal disorder in children attributed to podocyte injury. However, children with the same diagnosis have markedly variable treatment responses, clinical courses, and outcomes, suggesting molecular heterogeneity. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the molecular responses of podocytes to nephrotic plasma to identify specific genes and signaling pathways differentiating various clinical NS groups as well as biological processes that drive injury in normal podocytes. Methods: Transcriptome profiles from immortalized human podocyte cell line exposed to the plasma of 8 subjects (steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome [SSNS], n=4; steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome [SRNS], n=2; and healthy adult individuals [control], n=2) were generated using microarray analysis. Results: Unsupervised hierarchical clustering of global gene expression data was broadly correlated with the clinical classification of NS. Differential gene expression (DGE) analysis of diseased groups (SSNS or SRNS) versus healthy controls identified 105 genes (58 up-regulated, 47 down-regulated) in SSNS and 139 genes (78 up-regulated, 61 down-regulated) in SRNS with 55 common to SSNS and SRNS, while the rest were unique (50 in SSNS, 84 genes in SRNS). Pathway analysis of the significant (P≤0.05, -1≤ log2 FC ≥1) differentially expressed genes identified the transforming growth factor-β and Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription pathways to be involved in both SSNS and SRNS. DGE analysis of SSNS versus SRNS identified 2,350 genes with values of P≤0.05, and a heatmap of corresponding expression values of these genes in each subject showed clear differences in SSNS and SRNS. Conclusion: Our study observations indicate that, although podocyte injury follows similar pathways in different clinical subgroups, the pathways are modulated differently as evidenced by the heatmap. Such transcriptome profiling with a larger cohort can stratify patients into intrinsic subtypes and provide insight into the molecular mechanisms of podocyte injury.
The aim of this study was to conduct basic research on the development of a dual-clutch transmission(DCT) and automatic transmission for agricultural tractors. The DCT layout and the DCT simulation model were developed using commercial software. Power transmission efficiency of the DCT and component power loss were analyzed to verify the developed simulation model. Power loss analysis of the components was conducted according to previous studies and ISO(International Organization for Standardization) standards. The power transmission efficiency of the DCT simulation model was 68.4-91.5% according to the gear range. The power loss in the gear, bearing, and clutch DCT system components was 0.75-1.49 kW, 0.77-2.99 kW, and 5.24-10.52 kW, respectively. The developed simulation model not include the rear axle, differential gear, final reduction gear. Therefore actual power transmission efficiency of DCT will be decreased. In a future study, an actual DCT can be developed through the simulation model in this study, and optimization design of DCT can be possible by comparing simulation results and actual vehicle test.
Uncertainty of the model, system delay and drive dynamics can be considered as normal uncertainties, and the main source of uncertainty in the seismic control system is related to the nature of the simulated seismic error. In this case, optimizing the management strategy for one particular seismic record will not yield the best results for another. In this article, we propose a framework for online management of active structural management systems with seismic uncertainty. For this purpose, the concept of reinforcement learning is used for online optimization of active crowd management software. The controller consists of a differential controller, an unplanned gain ratio, the gain of which is enhanced using an online reinforcement learning algorithm. In addition, the proposed controller includes a dynamic status forecaster to solve the delay problem. To evaluate the performance of the proposed controllers, thousands of ground motion data sets were processed and grouped according to their spectrum using fuzzy clustering techniques with spatial hazard estimation. Finally, the controller is implemented in a laboratory scale configuration and its operation is simulated on a vibration table using cluster location and some actual seismic data. The test results show that the proposed controller effectively withstands strong seismic interference with delay. The goals of this paper are towards access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services, promotion of inclusive and sustainable urbanization and participation, implementation of sustainable and disaster-resilient buildings, sustainable human settlement planning and manage. Simulation results is believed to achieved in the near future by the ongoing development of AI and control theory.
This paper has proposed a 920 MHz RF front-end for IEEE 802.15.4g SUN (Smart Utility Network) systems. The proposed 920 MHz RF front-end consists of a driver amplifier, a low noise amplifier, and a RF switch. In the TX mode, the driver amplifier has been designed as a single-ended topology to remove a transformer which causes a loss of the output power from the driver amplifier. In addition, a RF switch is located in the RX path not the TX path. In the RX mode, the proposed low noise amplifier can provide a differential output signal when a single-ended input signal has been applied to. A LC resonant circuit is used as both a load of the drive amplifier and a input matching circuit of the low noise amplifier, reducing the chip area. The proposed 920 MHz RF Front-end has been implemented in a 0.18-um CMOS technology. It consumes 3.6 mA in driver amplifier and 3.1 mA in low noise amplifier from a 1.8 V supply voltage.
Recently the demand for projected capacitance touch screens is sharply growing especially for large screens for medical devices, PC monitors and TVs. Large touch screens in general need a controller of higher complexity. They usually have a larger number of driving and sensing lines, and hence it takes longer to scan one frame for touch detection leading to a low frame scan rate. In this paper, a novel touch screen control technique is presented, which scans each frame in two steps of simultaneous multi-channel driving. The first step is to drive all driving lines simultaneously and determine which sensing lines have any touch. The second step is to sequentially rescan only the touched sensing lines, and determine exact positions of the touches. This technique can substantially increase the frame scan rate. This technique has been implemented using an FPGA and an AFE board, and tested using a commercial 23-inch touch screen panel. Experimental results show that the proposed technique improves the frame scan rate by 8.4 times for the 23-inch touch screen panel over conventional methods.
Traditional automobile or 2-wheeled robot have limitations on mobility because of their mechanical structure. As traditional automobile is being replaced by electric cars, robot technology is applied to the car industry. In robotics, many researchers worked on omnidirectional mobile robot and produced lots of noticeable results. However in many of the results, specialized wheels such as Mecanum wheels are required. That imposes restrictions on robot speed and outdoor driving. We proposed a 2-wheeled modular robot that has omnidirectional mobility without using specialized wheels. In this paper, we propose a 4-wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot that consists of those two modular robots. The proposed robot adopts electric brakes to combine wheel housings and the robot body or to separate wheel housings from the robot body. Two absolute-type encoders and four incremental encoders are used to control the position of the wheel housing and velocities of the wheels. The proposed robot has omnidirectional mobility and can move fast and outdoor with normal tire wheels. We implemented the proposed robot and the feasibility and stability of the robot is verified by two separate experiments.
Considering the recent increase in the number of colorectal cancer (CRC) cases in South Korea, we aimed to clarify the molecular characteristics of CRC unique to the Korean population. To gain insights into the complexities of CRC and promote the exchange of critical data, RNA-sequencing analysis was performed to reveal the molecular mechanisms that drive the development and progression of CRC; this analysis is critical for developing effective treatment strategies. We performed RNA-sequencing analysis of CRC and adjacent normal tissue samples from 214 Korean participants (comprising a total of 381 including 169 normal and 212 tumor samples) to investigate differential gene expression between the groups. We identified 19,575 genes expressed in CRC and normal tissues, with 3,830 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the groups. Functional annotation analysis revealed that the upregulated DEGs were significantly enriched in pathways related to the cell cycle, DNA replication, and IL-17, whereas the downregulated DEGs were enriched in metabolic pathways. We also analyzed the relationship between clinical information and subtypes using the Consensus Molecular Subtype (CMS) classification. Furthermore, we compared groups clustered within our dataset to CMS groups and performed additional analysis of the methylation data between DEGs and CMS groups to provide comprehensive biological insights from various perspectives. Our study provides valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying CRC in Korean patients and serves as a platform for identifying potential target genes for this disease. The raw data and processed results have been deposited in a public repository for further analysis and exploration.
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times.
