Development of Truck Crane Analysis Program with Boom Flexibility (붐의 유연성을 고려한 트럭크레인의 설계 전용 동력학 해석 프로그램 개발)

  • Computer simulation technique has been applied on the various engineering fields to reduce cost and development period. On this paper, we introduce a crane analysis program. Using this program, we can predict reaction force of each part or supporting force of truck crane on a personal computer system with out exclusive knowledge of multi-body dynamics. In order to consider the effect of boom flexibility according to each working condition, flexible dynamic theory is applied to the program. Actual crane model is analyzed on special work condition using this program and the results are compared with those of rigid boom model.

Image Restoration Using Partial Differential Equation (편미분 방정식을 이용한 이미지 복원)

  • This paper is concerned with simulation issues arising in the PDE-based image restoration such as the total variation minimization(TVM) and its generalizations. In particular, we study the issues of staircasing and excessive dissipation of TVM-like smoothing operators. A strategy of scaling the algebraic system and a non-convex minimization are considered respectively for anti-staircasing and anti-diffusion. Furthermore, we introduce a variable constraint parameter to better preserve image edges. The resulting algorithm has been numerically verified to be efficient and reliable in denoising. Various numerical results are shown to confirm the claim.

  • A nonlinear dynamic simulation model from cranking to idle speed is developed to optimize the cold start process of a diesel engine. Physically-based first order nonlinear differential equations and some algebraic equations describing engine dynamics and starter motor dynamics are used to model the performance of cold starting process which is very complex and involves many components including the cold start aiding method. These equations are solved using numerical schemes to describe the starting process of a diesel engine and to study the effects of cold starting parameters. The validity of this model is examined by a cold start test at $-20^{\circ}C$. Using the developed model the effects of the important starting variables on the cold starting processes were investigated. This model can be served as a tool for designing computer aided control systems that improve cold start performance.

  • The operational properties of BPF(block-pulse functions) are much applied to the analysis of time-varying linear systems. The integral operational matrix of BPF converts the systems in the form of the differential equation into the algebraic problems. But the errors caused by using the integral operational matrix make it difficult that we exactly analyze time-varying linear systems. So, in this paper, to analyze time-varying linear systems we had used the recursive algorithm derived from the new integral operational matrix. And the usefulness of the proposed method is verified by the example.

Turning Dynamics and Equilibrium of Two-Wheeled Vehicles

  • The equations of motion of two-wheeled vehicles, e.g. bicycles or motorcycles, are developed by using Lagrange's equations for quasi-coordinates. The pure rolling constraints between the ground and the two wheels are considered in the dynamical equations of the system. For each wheel, two nonholonomic and two holonomic constraints are introduced in a set of differential-algebraic equations (DAE). The constraint Jacobian matrix is obtained by collecting all the constraint equations and converting them into the velocity form. Equilibrium, an algorithm for searching for equilibrium points of two-wheeled vehicles and the associated problems are discussed. Formulae for calculating the radii of curvatures of ground-wheel contact paths and the reference point are also given.

  • For the general loading condition and boundary condition, it is very difficult to obtain closed-form solutions for buckling loads and natural frequencies of thin-walled structures because its behaviour is very complex due to the coupling effect of bending and torsional behaviour. Consequently most of previous finite element formulations introduced approximate displacement fields using shape functions as Hermitian polynomials, isoparametric interpoation function, and so on. The purpose of this study is to calculate the exact displacement field of a thin-walled straight beam element with the non-symmetric cross section and present a consistent derivation of the exact dynamic stiffness matrix. An exact dynamic element stiffness matrix is established from Vlasov's coupled differential equations for a uniform beam element of non-symmetric thin-walled cross section. This numerical technique is accomplished via a generalized linear eigenvalue problem by introducing 14 displacement parameters and a system of linear algebraic equations with complex matrices. The natural frequencies are evaluated for the non-symmetric thin-walled straight beam structure, and the results are compared with available solutions in order to verify validity and accuracy of the proposed procedures.

  • The results of a series of numerical experiments are presented to verify some of the important developments made in the first part of this paper. Firstly, the static solution of an algebraic system obtained through Strong Formulation Finite Element Method (SFEM) is presented. Secondly, the stress and strain recovery procedure is descripted for the present technique. It will be clear that the present approach is suitable for any strong formulation finite element methodology, due to the presented general approach based on the unknown displacements and on the elasticity equations. Thirdly, the numerical solutions for some classical and other numerical results found in literature are exposed. Finally, an arbitrarily shaped composite plate is solved and good agreement is observed for all the presented cases.

  • A Walsh function method is proposed in this report for the analysis and optimal control of linear time-delay systems, which is based on the Picard's iterative approximation and fast Walsh transformation. In this research, the following results are obtained: 1) The differential and integral equation can be solved by transforming into a simple algebraic equation as it was possible with the usual orthogonal function method: 2) General orthogonal function methods require usage of Walsh operational matrices for delay or advance and many calculations of inverse matrices, which are not necessary in this method. Thus, the control problems of linear time-delay systems can be solved much faster and readily.

  • Design sensitivity analysis of a vehicle system is an essential tool for design optimization and trade-off studies. Most optimization algorithms require the derivatives of cost and constraint function with respect to design in order to calculate the next improved design. This paper presents an efficient algorithm application for the design sensitivity analysis, using the direct differentiation method. A mounting area of suspension that welded on chassis frame is analyzed to show the validity and the efficiency of the proposed method.   • For the analysis of dynamic contact between a catenary and a pantograph of high-speed electrical train, the numerical solution of the equations of motion of the vehicle pantograph and the catenary system subjected to the contact condition is obtained. The whole equations of motion of the catenary and the pantograph are simultaneously time integrated with the strict application of the contact condition. For the stability of the numerical solution, with the cubic spline interpolation of the catenary displacement, the velocity and acceleration constraints as well as the displacement constraint are imposed on the contact point. Especially it is shown that the Coriolis and centripetal accelerations are critical for the accuracy and stability of the computation.
