Guyed mast structures exhibit characteristics such as high flexibility, low mass, small damping ratio, and large aspect ratio, leading to a complex wind-induced vibration response mechanism. This study analyzed the time- and frequency-domain characteristics of the wind-induced response of a guyed mast structure using measured acceleration response data obtained from the Shenzhen Meteorological Gradient Tower (SZMGT). Firstly, 734 sets of 1-hour acceleration samples measured from 0:00 October 1, 2021, to 0:00 November 1, 2021, were selected to study the vibration shapes of the mast and the characteristics of the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution. Secondly, six sets of typical samples with different vibration intensities were further selected to explore the Gaussian property and modal parameter characteristics of the mast. Finally, the modal parameters of the SZMGT are identified and the identification results are verified by finite element analysis. The findings revealed that the guyed mast vibration shape exhibits remarkable diversity, which increases nonlinearly along the height in most cases and reaches a maximum at the top of the tower. Moreover, the GEV distribution characteristics of the 734 sets of samples are closer to the Weibull distribution. The probability distribution of the structural wind vibration response under strong wind is in good agreement with the Gaussian distribution. The structural response of the mast under wind loading exhibits multiple modes. As the structural response escalates, the first three orders of modal energy in the tower display a gradual increase in proportion.

The elastic buckling strength of a corrugated pipe made of orthotropic material was evaluated. The height and length of a corrugated wave and the thickness of the pipe were considered as factors affecting the buckling strength of the pipe. And also, the ratio of the longitudinal stiffness and transverse stiffness were considered as parameters affecting on the buckling strength of a pipe made of orthotropic material. Buckling strengths of various corrugated pipes with different shapes and stiffness ratio were evaluated by FE analyses. And a formula to estimate the elastic buckling strength was suggested by regression of FE analysis results. Analysis results show that a corrugated pipe has superior buckling strength to a general flat pipe and the suggested formula estimates accurate buckling strength of the corrugated pipe made of orthotropic material.
Due to the many advantages of concrete-filled double steel tube (CFDT) columns, they are highly recommended for use in heavy-load structures such as bridges, subway stations, and high-rise buildings. This study was carried out with the aim of numerically investigating and comparing the performance of CFDT columns under cyclic and seismic loads and providing innovative strengthening methods for CFDT columns. Hollow circular steel sections have been used for internal and external tubes. To make the circular CFDT columns stronger against seismic loads, stiffeners with different shapes (rectangular and T-shaped sheets) have been welded to the outside and inside tubes. The validated finite element (FE) model of the ABAQUS program is used to look into the behavior of CFDT columns numerically. Two frames of 10 and 20 floors with strengthened CFDT columns were modeled. The results showed that the use of stiffeners in the CFDT column has a significant effect on seismic performance, so that the maximum lateral load of the column is increased up to 32.74% under the effect of cyclic load. Also, the results revealed that the use of stiffeners in the columns of moderate and high-rise building frames causes a significant increase in the shear of the base and consequently the stiffness. Among the other important results that followed, it reduced the drift of floors and increased energy absorption.
It is known observationally that the major axes of galaxy clusters and their brightest cluster galaxies are roughly aligned with each other. To understand the origin of the alignment, we identify 40 cluster-sized dark matter (DM) haloes with masses higher than 5 × 1013 M⊙ and their central galaxies (CGs) at z ≈ 0 in the Horizon-AGN cosmological hydrodynamical simulation. We trace the progenitors at 50 different epochs between 0 < z < 5. We then fit their shapes and orientations with a triaxial ellipsoid model. While the orientations of both DM haloes and CGs change significantly due to repeated mergers and mass accretions, their relative orientations are well aligned at each epoch even at high redshifts, z > 1. The alignment becomes tighter with cosmic time; the major axes of the CGs and their host DM haloes at present are aligned on average within ~30° in the 3D space and ~20° in the projected plane. The orientations of the major axes of DM haloes on average follow one of the eigenvectors of the surrounding tidal field that corresponds to the slowest collapsing (or even stretching) mode, and the alignment with the tidal field also becomes tighter. This implies that the orientations of CGs and DM haloes at the present epoch are largely imprinted in the primordial density field of the universe, whereas strong dynamical interactions such as mergers are important to explain their mutual alignment at each epoch.

South Korea has seen an increased demand for road maintenance, since they experienced a rapid industrialization in 1960-70s. Between 2019 and the end of 2022, the total national expenditure on road maintenance steadily rose from KRW 3.4 trillion to KRW 4.5 trillion. Roads, responsible for about 80% of the nation's transportation, significantly affect ride quality, safety and maintenance costs. Among the different perspectives, this study focuses on the prevalence of potholes. Over 24,000 pothole instances are reported on highways in the past five years, which raises concerns due to various direct and indirect effects on road maintenance and safety issues. Various methods, including vision-based, vibration-based, and 3D reconstruction-based techniques, have been proposed for pothole detection and inspection. Vision-based methods effectively count and measure pothole shapes but which are sensitive to lighting conditions. Vibration-based methods offer cost-effectiveness, although it may not provide precise pothole shape information. 3D reconstruction-based methods deliver accurate shape measurements, while it comes with higher costs. To establish an effective road maintenance system, prioritization criteria for potholes is required to be established and applied. These criteria may vary across countries or regions. For example, in the United States, potholes are classified based on depth into Low (<25mm deep), Moderate (25 to 50mm deep), and High (>50mm deep). In conclusion, this research addresses this research challenge of road damage and potholes in South Korea by exploring various pothole classification standards and utilizing advanced technology to develop an efficient road maintenance system. The outcome would benefit improved road infrastructure management and enhanced safety.
Accurate numerical modeling of clouds and precipitation is essential for weather forecasting and climate change research. While size-resolved (bin) cloud microphysics models predict particle size distributions without imposing shapes, results are subject to artificial size distribution broadening owing to numerical diffusion associated with various processes. Whereas Part I of this study addressed collision-coalescence, here we investigate numerical diffusion that occurs in solving condensation and evaporation. In a parcel model framework, all of the numerical schemes examined converge to one solution of condensation and evaporation as the mass grid is refined, and the advection-based schemes are recommended over the reassigning schemes. Including Eulerian vertical advection in a column limits the convergence to some extent, but that limitation occurs at a sufficiently fine mass grid, and the number of iterations in solving vertical advection should be minimized to reduce numerical diffusion. Insubstantial numerical diffusion in solving condensation can be amplified if collision-coalescence is also active, which in turn can be substantially diminished if turbulence effects on collision are incorporated. Large-eddy simulations of a drizzling stratocumulus field reveal that changes in moments of Doppler spectra obtained using different mass grids are consistent with those obtained from the simplified framework, and that spectral moments obtained using a mass grid designed to effectively reduce numerical diffusion are generally closer to observations. Notable differences between the simulations and observations still exist, and our results suggest a need to consider whether factors other than numerical diffusion in the fundamental process schemes employed can cause such differences.

The concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for the deflection estimation of reinforced concrete flexural members. The KCI design code adopted Branson's equation for simple calculation of deflection, in which a representative value of the effective moment of inertia is used for the whole length of a member. However, the code equation for the effective moment of inertia was formulated based on the results of beam tests subjected to uniformly distributed loads, which may not effectively account for those of members under different loading conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the influences of moment shapes resulting from different loading patterns by experiments. Six beams were fabricated and tested in this study, where primary variables were concrete compressive strengths and loading distances from supports, and test results were compared to the code equation and other existing approaches. A method utilizing variational analysis for the deflection estimation has been also proposed, which accounts for the influences of moment shapes to the effective moment of inertia. The test results indicated that the effective moment of inertia was somewhat influenced by the moment shape, and that this influence of moment shape to the effective moment of inertia was not captured by the code equation. Compared to the code equation, the proposed method had smaller variation in the ratios of the test results to the estimated values of beam deflections. Therefore, the proposed method is considered to be a good approach to take into account the influence of moment shape for the estimation of beam deflection, however, the differences between test results and estimated deflections show that more researches are still required to improve its accuracy by modifying the shape function of deflection.
The objective of this study was to analyze the in vitro and in vivo corrosion products of low and high copper amalgams. The four different types of amalgam alloy used in this study were Fine cut, Caulk spherical, Dispersalloy, and Tytin. After each amalgam alloy and Hg were triturated according to the directions of the manufacturer by means of the mechanical amalgamator(Amalgam mixer. Shinhung Co. Korea), the triturated mass was inserted into a cylindrical metal mold which was 12mm in diameter and 10mm in height. The mass was condensed by 150Kg/cm compressive force. The specimen was removed from the mold and aged at room temperature for about seven days. The standard surface preparation was routinely carried out by emery paper polishing under running water. In vitro amalgam specimens were potentiostatically polarized ten times in a normal saline solution at $37^{\circ}C$(potentiostat : HA-301. Hukuto Denko Corp. Japan). Each specimen was subjected to anodic polarization scan within the potential range -1700mV to+400mV(SCE). After corrosion tests, anodic polarization curves and corrosion potentials were obtained. The amount of component elements dissolved from amalgams into solution was measured three times by ICP AES(Inductive Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry: Plasma 40. Perkim Elmer Co. U.S.A.). The four different types of amalgam were filled in occlusal and buccal class I cavities of four human 3rd molars. After about five years the restorations were carefully removed after tooth extraction to preserve the structural details including the deteriorated margins. The occlusal surface, amalgam-tooth interface and the fractured surface of in vivo amalgam corrosion products were analyzed. In vivo and in vitro amalgam specimens were examined and analyzed metallographically by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope: JSM 840. Jeol Co. Japan) and EDAX(Energy Dispersive Micro X-ray Analyser: JSM 840. Jeol Co. Japan). 1. The following results are obtained from in vitro corrosion tests. 1) Corrosion potentials of all amalgams became more noble after ten times passing through the in vitro corrosion test compared to first time. 2) After times through the test, released Cu concentration in saline solution was almost equal but highest in Fine cut. Ag and Hg ion concentration was highest in Caulk spherical and Sn was highest in Dispersalloy. 3) Analyses of surface corrosion products in vitro reveal the following results. a)The corroded surface of Caulk spherical has Na-Sn-Cl containing clusters of $5{\mu}m$ needle-like crystals and oval shapes of Sn-Cl phase, polyhedral Sn oxide phase. b)In Fine cut, there appeared to be a large Sn containing phase, surrounded by many Cu-Sn phases of $1{\mu}m$ granular shapes. c)Dispersalloy was covered by a thick reticular layer which contained Zn-Cl phase. d)In Tytin, a very thin, corroded layer had formed with irregularly growing Sn-Cl phases that looked like a stack of plates. 2. The following results are obtained by an analysis of in vivo amalgam corrosion products. 1) Occlusal surfaces of all amalgams were covered by thick amorphous layers containing Ca-P elements which were abraded by occlusal force. 2) In tooth-amalgam interface, Ca-P containing products were examined in all amalgams but were most clearly seen in low copper amalgams. 3) Sn oxide appeared as a polyhedral shape in internal space in Caulk spherical and Fine cut. 4) Apical pyramidal shaped Sn oxide and curved plate-like Sn-Cl phases resulted in Dispersalloy. 5) In Tytin, Sn oxide and Sn hydroxide were not seen but polyhedral Ag-Hg phase crystal appeared in internal space which assumed a ${\beta}_l$ phase.

Purpose: In order to provide the fundamental information for the design development of RGP lenses and its clinical prescription, the corneal types of Korean twenties were analyzed according to corneal shapes, astigmatic degree, and the certain distance from the corneal apex. Methods: Corneal types of total 252 eyes in 20s were firstly classified, then their corneal radii from the certain distance from the corneal apex were measured by corneal topography and further analyzed based on the astigmatic degree. Results: Korean 20s' corneal types were classified as 14.3%(36 eyes) of round, 31.3%(79 eyes) of oval, 28.6%(72 eyes) of symmetric bow tie, 17.5%(44 eyes) of asymmetric bow tie, 8.3%(21 eyes) of irregular shapes. The round and oval typed corneas had mild astigmatic degree whereas the higher astigmatic degree in symmetric and asymmetric bow tie typed corneas were shown. The relative corneal radii of round and oval typed corneas at each distance from corneal apex were shown to consistently increase regardless of astigmatic degrees when they measured at certain distances from the corneal apex. However, the relative corneal radii of symmetric and asymmetric bow tie typed corneas within 1.0-1.5mm from the corneal apex were decreased, which showed steeper slope than it within 1.0 mm and somewhat different based on astigmatic degrees. Bigger change of corneal radii outer 3.5 mm from the corneal apex in symmetric bow tie typed corneas with astigmatism of 1.50-2.00 D and 2.25-2.75 D appeared. Conclusions: The consideration of radial change from the central cornea to peripheral cornea is necessary for manufacturing RGP lens and its prescription since they showed different change in corneal radii by corneal patterns and astigmatic degrees.

Electrode contact resistance is a crucial factor in physiological measurements and can be an accuracy limiting factor to perform electrical impedance measurements. The electrical bio-impedance values can be calculated by the conductivity and permittivity of underlying tissue using implant electrode in human skin. In this study we focus on detecting physiological changes in the human skin layers such as the sebum layer, stratum corneum layer, epidermis layer, dermis layer, subcutaneous fat and muscle. The aim of this paper is to obtain optimal design for implantable electrode at subcutaneous fat layer through the simulation by finite element methods(FEM). This is achieved by evaluating FEM simulations geometrically for different electrodes in length(50 mm, 70 mm), in shape(rectangle, round square, sexangle column), in material(gold) and in depth(22.325 mm) based on the information coming from the subcutaneous fat layer. In bio-impedance measurement experiments, according to electrode shapes and applied voltage, we have ascertained that there was the highest difference of bio-impedance in subcutaneous fat layer. The methodology of simulation can be extended to account for different electrode designs as well as more physical phenomena that are relevant to electrical impedance measurements of skin and their interpretation.
