This study aims to investigate the applicability of Sd/StFFF and to develop a method for size characterization of urban airborne particles, focusing primarily on particles larger than about 1 mm. It was found that the airborne concentration vary with time, although no particular seasonal trend was observed. When averaged over time, the airborne concentration was the lowest in the park areas with 99 ㎍/m³. The apartment, industrial, and central city area showed similar levels of the airborne concentrations with 166, 170, and 171 ㎍/m³, respectively. The housing area showed the highest airborne concentration with 201 μg/m³ among all tested areas. A power-programmed Sd/StFFF was used for size analysis of airborne particles with the initial field strength of 300 rpm, $t_a$ = 4, $t_i$ = -16, p = 8, and the flow rate of 7 mL/min. It was found that urban airborne samples were mostly populated by particles having diameters between about 5 to 20 ㎛, although all have broad size distributions ranging up to about 50 ㎛. Under the Sd/StFFF condition used in this study, no significant differences were found in size distributions among the airborne particles collected at different urban sites, and also among those collected at different times.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of mercury and arsenic on the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana when treated with three different concentrations. When treated with mercury, there was no noticeable difference in the growth of the plant between the group treated with $0.5\;{\mu}g/L$ (the effluent standard established by the Ministry of Environment) and the group treated with the concentration 100 times higher. They both showed almost the same level of growth as that of the normal plant. But the group of the concentration 10 times higher showed significantly $10\%$ more growth compared with the normal plant. When treated with arsenic, the three different groups all showed a little more growth compared with the normal plant. Interestingly, the group of the concentration 10 times higher than the official standard concentration of arsenic $(50\;{\mu}g/L)$ showed the highest level of growth, significantly $20\%$ more than the normal plant. These results show that some amount of mercury and arsenic in the soil do not have much effect on the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana, and that optimum concentrations of mercury and arsenic can even stimulate the growth of the plant.
This study was undertaken to establish the different pharmaceutical properties between promethazine HCl and promethazine pamoate. First, promethazine pamoate was prepared by using the modified method of Saias. Second, in order to study the different pharmacokinetics between promethazine pamoate and promethazine HCl, absorption rate, plasma concentration, and distribution, as well as urinary excretion of the both compounds were examined in rabbits as an experimental animal: The results were as follows. 1. In the in vitro isolated intestine of rabbit, the rate constant for absorption of promethazine pamoate was $0.347hr^{-1}$ and that of promethazine HCl was $0.532hr^{-1}$. 2. After oral administration of promethazine pamoate, the increase of plasma concentration of promethazine was much slower than that of promethazine HCl. 3. The urinary excretion rate of promethazine pamoate was significantly low in comparison to that of promethazine-HCl; i. e. about 50% of promethazine HCl was excreted within 3 hours, and 5 to 15 hours for that of promethazine pamoate. 4. The tissue concentration of promethazine after oral administration of promethazine pamoate in rabbit was steadily increased for 5 hours. However, promethazine HCl concentration reached to maximum 1 hour after administration, then decreased slowly. 5. A significant amount of promethazine was mainly distributed in spleen, kidney, lung, liver and heart in this order, rather than other organs, such as brain, and muscle. 6. In the toxicity test by using mouse, $LD_{50}$ for promethazine pamoate was 3,250 mg/kg, while $LD_{50}$ for promethazien HCl was 298mg/kg.
The Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) are emitted from various sources and have lots of different form. Recently human are spending the many times at indoor area and indoor air pollution is issued the important social problem. The emission sources of indoor air pollutants are very various, also indoor building materials are composed of very complex chemical compounds, these indoor building materials discharge very much VOCs and other hazardous compounds. In this study, we performed the small chamber test to investigate the VOCs emission concentration and characteristics involving five kinds of the indoor building materials(furniture material, wooden floor, wall paper, paint and tile) under different conditions of four temperature and relative humidity as account of the air flow rate(AFR), air exchange rate(AER), loading factor and air velocity respectively. As the result, It was showed that building materials are emitted the highest VOCs concentration at the beginning of experiment and furniture material is emitted the highest VOCs concentration. Most of the materials were affected by temperature, but paint and tile material were affected by humidity.
The material deficiencies in the form of pre-existing defects can initiated cracks and fractures. The stress distribution and fatigue crack initiation life of engineering materials may be associated with the size, the shape and the relative location of defects contained in the component. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of arbitrarily located hole defect around the rivet hole of a wing section in monolithic aluminum and Al/GFRP laminates under cyclic bending moment during a service load. The stress distribution and the fatigue crack initiation behavior near a rivet hole of on the relationships between stress concentration factor ($K_t$) and relative position of defects were considered. The test results indicated the features of different stress field. Therefore, the stress concentration factor ($K_t$) and the fatigue crack initiation behavior was illustrated different behavior according to each position of hole defect around the rivet hole in monolithic aluminum and Al/GFRP laminates.
Nine crossbred castrated lambs fitted with rumen and duodenum cannula and fed a diet of hay and concentrate formulated with ground corn and soybean meal as main ingredients were used to assess the duodenal ideal amino acid pattern. Three synthetic amino acid mixtures with different profile of essential amino acids were duodenally infused in order to get three different amino acid patterns flowing into the duodenum. The mixtures were designed to have similar amino acid profile as rumen microbial protein (Pm), casein (Pc) and modified muscle amino acid (Pmm). Results showed a lower urine nitrogen excretion (p=0.05), a higher nitrogen retention (p=0.04) and bodyweight gain with treatment Pmm. The modified muscle amino acid pattern also promoted a lower ratio of Gly to other amino acids in plasma (Gly/OAA) and a higher RNA and RNA/DNA concentration in the liver of the sheep. Meanwhile, the urea concentration in plasma was reduced and the insulin concentration was increased with Pmm treatment. No differences in glucose and growth hormone concentration in plasma were found among three treatments. All results obtained indicate that the modified muscle amino acid pattern (Lys 100%, Met+Cys 39%, Thr 76%, His 41%, Arg 72%, Leu 158%, Ile 81%, Val 105%, Phe 81% and Trp 13%) was the best for growing sheep.
Forest tree leaves (12 different species) of semi hilly arid region of Punjab State were collected at 30-day interval throughout the year to assess the seasonal variations in tannin profile. Tannins were extracted and fractionated from fat free samples and data were analyzed statistically by $12{\times}12$ factorial design. The leaves of Anogeissus latifolia had the highest (p<0.05) concentration of total phenols (17.4%), net (15.9%) and hydrolysable (16.9%) tannins, followed by leaves of Acacia nilotica. Majority of the tree leaves selected had moderate levels (2-5%) of net tannins. Leaves of Carrisa had the highest (p<0.05) concentration of condensed tannins (CT), whereas the leaves of Anogeissus had the lowest (p<0.05) concentration of condensed tannins. The protein precipitable phenols (PPP) corresponded well with the net tannin content present in different tree leaves. Seasonal variation data revealed that in summer, net tannins and PPP decline in leaves of Bauhinia and Zizyphus whereas the net tannin content of Anogeissus and that of Carrisa increased during summer. The CT and PPP content in the leaves of Pheonix, Leucaena, Zizyphus and Ougenia increased in winter till spring season. Tree leaves generally had higher concentration of HT during summer months. It was concluded that leaves of leaves of A. nilotica, A. latifolia and L. leucocephala could serve as an excellent alternate feed stuffs for ruminants. However, leaves of Phoenix, Carrisa, Bauhinia and Dodonea should be avoided.
The influencing factors to remove phosphate were evaluated by converter slag (CS). Experiments were performed by batch tests using different CS sizes and column test. Solutions were prepared at the different pH and concentrations. The maximum removal efficiency was obtained over 98% with the finest particle size, $CS_a$ within 2 hours in batch tests. The removal efficiency was increased in the order of decreasing size with same amount of CS for any pH of solutions. The adsorption data were well fitted to Freundlich isotherm. From the column experiment, the specific factors were revealed that the breakthrough removal capacity (BRC) $x_b/m_{cs}$, was decreased by increasing the influent concentration. The breakthrough time, tb was lasted shorter as increasing the influent concentration. The pH drop simultaneously led to lower BRC drop during the experimental hours. The relation between the breakthrough time and the BRC to influent concentration was shown in the logarithmic decrease. Results suggested that the large surface area of CS possessed a great potential for adsorptive phosphate removal. Consequently particle size and initial concentration played the major influencing factors in phosphate removal by converter slag.

Vaporizing characteristics of two GDI injectors with different spray angles were investigated using exciplex fluorescence method. Injector I has narrower spray angle, while injector II has wider one. The exciplex system of fluorobenzene and DEMA in a non-fluorescing base fuel of hexane was employed. In quantifying concentration of fuel vapor, quenching of concentration and temperature was corrected. Droplet size and velocity were also measured by PDPA under non-vaporizing condition. From obtaining the images of liquid and vapor phases, vaporizing GDI sprays could be divided as two regions: cone and mixing regions. For injector I, vortex region was not developed. High concentration of fuel vapor due to vaporization of many fine droplets was distributed near the spray axis. For injector II, droplets with the diameter of about 10 $\mu$m were distributed in the vortex region. The vortex region had high concentration of fuel vapor due to vaporization of these droplets. Particularly, higher and lower concentrations of fuel vapor were balanced at 2ms after the start of injection for injector II.
To find out the optimum mixture ratio of ammonium and nitrate on rice plant, 4 rice varieties were examined during 14days after transplanting in hydroponics with the different ratio of ammonium to nitrate(100 : 0, 75: 25,50: 50, 25: 75 and 0: 100). The highest N uptake from solution and the maximum plant dry weight were $60\~70\%$ ammonium and $30\~40\%$ nitrate mixture treatment both in Japonica and Tongil type rice plants. And with the same varieties N-uptake and N use-efficiency were compared between 10.0 mM and 1.0 mM nitrogen using $70\%$ ammonium and $30\%$ nitrate for 24 days after transplanting. Rice plants absorbed more nitrogen$(131\~145\%)$ in 10.0mM than 1.0mM treatment but accumulated N in rice plants were almost the same in both treatment. Among the tested rice cultivars, dry matter production and total accumulative nitrogen in rice plants were much high in Tongil type than japonica type rice cultivars. N-recovery ratios of rice plants from uptake N were $90.8-99.0\%$ in low concentration N solution(1.0 mM), but $69.4-81.7\%$ were observed in high concentration N solution(10.0 mM). It means that suppling low concentration N steadily will be better to prevent loss of N without reducing of growth in rice plants.
