  • In this study nonlinear dynamic behaviors of towed tow-tension cables are numerically analysed. In the case of a taut cable analysis, a bending stiffness term is usually neglected due to its minor effect but it plays an important role in a low-tension cable analysis. A low-tension cable may experience large displacements due to relatively small restoring forces and thus the effects of fluid and geometric non-linearities become predominant. The bending stiffness and non-linearity effects are considered in this work. In order to obtain dynamic behaviors of a towed low-tension cable, three-dimensional nonlinear dynamic equation is described and discretized by employing a finite difference method. An implicit method and Newton-Raphson iteration are adopted for the time integration and nonlinear solutions. For the calculation of huge size of matrices. block tri-diagonal matrix method is applied, which is much faster than the well-known Gauss-Jordan method in two point boundary value problems. Some case studies are carried out and the results of numerical simulations are compared with those of a in-house program of WHOI Cable with good agreements.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient face region detection technique for the content-based video summarization. To segment video, shot changes are detected from a video sequence and key frames are selected from the shots. We select one frame that has the least difference between neighboring frames in each shot. The proposed face detection algorithm detects face region from selected key frames. And then, we provide user with summarized frames included face region that has an important meaning in dramas or movies. Using Bayes classification rule and statistical characteristic of the skin pixels, face regions are detected in the frames. After skin detection, we adopt the projection method to segment an image(frame) into face region and non-face region. The segmented regions are candidates of the face object and they include many false detected regions. So, we design a classifier to minimize false lesion using CART. From SGLD matrices, we extract the textual feature values such as Inertial, Inverse Difference, and Correlation. As a result of our experiment, proposed face detection algorithm shows a good performance for the key frames with a complex and variant background. And our system provides key frames included the face region for user as video summarized information.

  • Twenty seafood samples, which are common edible species and commercially important items in Korea, were purchased at the local fisheries markets and were analyzed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer detector (GC/MSD). The levels of sixteen PAHs in seafood from Korean coasts were 161 to 2,243 pg/g wet weight. The highest concentration was found at saury (Coloabis saira) and the lowest level was found at jacopever (Sebastes schlegeli). The concentrations of potentially carcinogenic PAHs of six species were in the range of 9 to 123 pg/g wet weight. The residues of PAHs in fishes from Korean coasts were slightly low or relatively moderate to other countries. There was no correlation between PAH residues and lipid contents in seafood samples. The predominant contributors in fish samples were lower-molecular-weight two and three ring aromatic PAHs such as naphthalene, acenaphthene, fluorene and phenanthrene. Filter-feeding organisms like shrimp, crab and topshell were dominated by three- and four-ring aromatic PAHs. The PAH profiles in marine sediments, bivalves, fishes, shrimp, crab and topshell according to exposure pathway were compared through factor analysis. The PAH profiles were clearly classified by the difference of species or environmental matrices. This result suggests that most of PAHs within the same samples behave identically in marine environment.

  • For real-time precise GPS data processing such as a long baseline network RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) survey, PPP (Precise Point Positioning) and monitoring of ionospheric/tropospheric delays, it is necessary to guarantee accuracy comparable to IGS (International GNSS Service) precise orbit with no latency. As a preliminary study for determining near real-time satellite orbits, the general procedures of satellite orbit determination, especially the dynamic approach, were studied. In addition, the transformation between terrestrial and inertial reference frames was tested to integrate acceleration. The IAU 1976/1980 precession/nutation model showed a consistency of 0.05 mas with IAU 2000A model. Since the IAU 2000A model has a large number of nutation components, it took more time to compute the transformation matrix. The classical method with IAU 2000A model was two times faster than the NRO (non-rotating origin) approach, while there is no practical difference between two transformation matrices.

  • After emerging of Microsoft Kinect, the interest in three-dimensional (3D) depth image was significantly increased. Depth image data of an object can be converted to 3D coordinates by simple arithmetic calculation and then can be reconstructed as a 3D model on computer. However, because the surface coordinates can be acquired only from the front area facing Kinect, total solid which has a closed surface cannot be reconstructed. In this paper, 3D registration method for multiple Kinects was suggested, in which surface information from each Kinect was simultaneously collected and registered in real time to build 3D total solid. To unify relative coordinate system used by each Kinect, 3D perspective transform was adopted. Also, to detect control points which are necessary to generate transformation matrix, 3D randomized Hough transform was used. Once transform matrices were generated, real time 3D reconstruction of various objects was possible. To verify the usefulness of suggested method, human arms were 3D reconstructed and the volumes of them were measured by using four Kinects. This volume measuring system was developed to monitor the level of lymphedema of patients after cancer treatment and the measurement difference with medical CT was lower than 5%, expected CT reconstruction error.

  • In this paper, classification feature is selected with focus of musical content, note sequences pattern, and measures similarity between note sequences followed by constructing clusters by similar note sequences, which is easier for users to search by showing the similar note sequences with the search result in the CBMR system. Experimental document was $\ulcorner$A Dictionary of Musical Themes$\lrcorner$, the index of theme bar focused on classical music and obtained kern-type file. Humdrum Toolkit version 1.0 was used as note sequences treat tool. The hierarchical clustering method is by stages focused on four-type similarity matrices by whether the note sequences segmentation or not and where the starting point is. For the measurement of the result, WACS standard is used in the case of being manual classification and in the case of the note sequences starling from any point in the note sequences, there is used common feature pattern distribution in the cluster obtained from the clustering result. According to the result, clustering with segmented feature unconnected with the starting point Is higher with distinct difference compared with clustering with non-segmented feature.

  • Objective: To evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS), fracture mode, wire pull out (WPO) resistance and microleakage between low-shrinking and conventional composites used as a lingual retainer adhesive. Methods: A total of 120 human mandibular incisor teeth, extracted for periodontal reasons, were collected. Sixty of them were separated into two groups. To determine the SBS, either Transbond-LR (3M-Unitek) or Silorane (3M-Espe) was applied to the lingual surface of the teeth by packing the material into standard cylindrical plastic matrices (Ultradent) to simulate the lingual retainer bonding area. To test WPO resistance, 20 samples were prepared for each composite where the wire was embedded in the composite materialand cured. Then tensile stress was applied until failure of the composite occurred. The remaining 60 teeth were divided into two groups and multi-stranded 0.0215-inch diameter wire was bonded with the same composites. Microleakage was evaluated by the dye penetration method. Statistical analyses were performed by Wilcoxon, Pearson chi-square, and Mann-Whitney-U tests at p < 0.05 level. Results: The SBS and WPO results were not statistically significant between the two groups. Significant differences were found between the groups in terms of fracture mode (p < 0.001). Greater percentages of the fractures showed mix type failure (85%) for Silorane and adhesive (60%) for Transbond-LR. Microleakage values were lower in low-shrinking composite than the control and this difference was found to be statistically significant (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Low-shrinking composite produced sufficient SBS, WPO and microleakage values on the etched enamel surfaces, when used as a lingual retainer composite.

  • A wavelet-Galerkin scheme based on the time-dependent Maxwell's equations is presented. Daubechies wavelet with two vanishing wavelet moments is expanded for basis function in spatial domain and Yee's leap-frog approach is applied. The shifted interpolation property of Daubechies wavelet family leads to the simplified formulations for inhomogeneous media without the additional matrices for the integral or material operator. The stability condition is formulated. The dispersion characteristics are analyzed and compared with those of finite difference time domain and multiresolution time domain methods. The analyses show the excellent trade-off between the regularity and the support width of the basis function. Although the basis function has only two vanishing wavelet moments, it is enough to provide negligible dispersive error in the numerical analysis and its compact support enables only several involved terms per nodes. The storage effectiveness, execution time reduction and accuracy of this scheme are demonstrated by calculating the resonant frequencies of the homogeneous and inhomogeneous cavities.

  • Stable isotopic ratios of the carbonate rocks and chemical compositions of the matrix of pebble bearing phyllitic rocks known as the Hwanggangri Formation, which are in hot debate on their origin such as tillite, debris flow and turbidite, were determined to interpret their depositional environment. Argillaceous matrix of the pebble bearing phyllitic rocks has a high content of CaO (av. 19.5%) and MgO (av. 8.3%), corresponding to calcareous sandy shale. No difference of chemical compositions including trace elements and REE is in the matrices between the Hwanggangri and the Kunjasan Formations. Carbonate rocks from the Okchon zone and outside of the zone range $-2.5{\sim}+6.1$‰ in ${\delta}^{13}C$ and $+5.8{\sim}+25.9$‰ in ${\delta}^{18}O$, indicating normal marine limestone. However, unusally $^{13}C$ enriched carbonate rocks might be deposited in the highly evaporated sedimentary basin. A wide variation of ${\delta}^{18}O$ values is responsible for metamorphism with a $^{18}O$ depleted meteoric water. Isotopic equilibrium temperatures by graphite-calcite geothermometer show a higher metamorphic temperature ($547{\sim}589^{\circ}C$) in the Okchon zone than those ($265{\sim}292^{\circ}C$) in the Samtaesan Formation of the Chosun group. Rhythmic alternation of relatively thin shale with thin limestone in the Kounri Formation is not cherty layer but thin limesilicate bed by metasomatic replacement. Judging from the isotopic and chemical compositions of the carbonate rocks and calcareous matrix of the pebble bearing phyllitic rocks, the Hwangganari Formation was deposited in the shallow marine environment favorable to debris flow.

  • A new and simple method is presented for determining the parasitic resistances of MESFET and HEMT from the measured S-parameters under normal active bias without depending on additional DC measurements or iteration or optimization process. The presented method is based on the fact that the difference between source resistance(Rs) and drain resistance(Rd) can be obtained from the measured Z-parameters under zero bias condition. It is possible to define the new internal device including intrinsic device and 3 parasitic resistances by elimination the parasitic inductances and capacitances from the measured S-parameters. Three parasitic resistances are calculated easily from the fact that the real parts of Yint,11 and Yint,12 of intrinsic Y-parameters are zero theoretically and the relations between S-,Z-, Y-matrices. The calculated parasitic resistances using the presented method and successively calculated equivalent circuit parameters give modeled S-parameters which are in good agreement with the measured S-parameters up to 400Hz.
