어린이 영양지수를 이용한 강화군 영·유아의 식행동 실태 평가 (Evaluation of Dietary Behavior of Infants and Toddlers in Ganghwa County by Using Nutrition Quotient (NQ))

  • The objectives of this study were to assess food intake frequency and food behavior of infants and toddlers by using the Nutrition Quotient (NQ). A total of 368 subjects (infants 111, toddlers 257) in Ganghwa county were analyzed in this study. The NQ was examined using an NQ questionnaire, which consisted of 19 food behavior checklist items. The items were grouped into five categories: balance, diversity, moderation, regularity, and practice. All data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 20, and significant difference was evaluated by Student's t-test and $x^2-test$. The BMIs of infants and toddlers were $16.54kg/m^2$ and $16.01kg/m^2$, respectively. The frequencies of consumption of vegetables and fruits were higher (p<0.001) in girls and toddlers compared to boys and infants, respectively. Food behavior of meal regularity (p<0.001), breakfast eating (p<0.001), and chewing well (p<0.001) were also higher in toddlers compared to infants. Total NQ score of infants and toddlers were 62.05 and 64.91, respectively, which were within medium grade. The NQ score of toddlers was higher than that of infants (p<0.0.5). NQ score was positively correlated with parent's education, monthly income, age, and exercise. Therefore, children and their parents need proper nutrition education and counseling to correct their eating habits and improve their nutritional status.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of the five senses activities involving food ingredients on the eating behavior of infants. The study was carried out four times over 6 months. We surveyed 65 nursery school infants and teachers who were registered at the 2020 Guro-gu Center for Children's Food Service Management in Seoul. They participated in the five senses education specialization project. The results of the study showed that the scores relating to unbalanced diet, hygiene management, dietary attitude, and dietary manners were visibly higher than those before participating in the five senses educational activities. In addition, there was a significant difference in the perception of the food ingredients used in the five senses education activities. Finally, as a result of investigating the types of education used before, during, and after the five senses education activities, and the need for education by type, cooking activities were observed to rank higher than other activities in all questions. Based on this, if dietary guidance is provided through a variety of five senses education activities over a long period rather than as a one-time event, it will be beneficial to the children's healthy eating habits.

영아의 성장발육에 영향을 미치는 환경요인 및 섭식관련 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Influence of Environmental Factors and Factors Associated with Feeding on Infants' Growth)

  • This study was aimed to evaluate any influence of environmental factors associated with feeding on infants' growth. One hundred infants(62 males and 38 females) aged 4-9 months were measured for length and were weighed. Their mothers were interviewed using questionnaires including general and environmental characteristics and maternal feeding attitude, ideal body habitus, infant's food behavior, and infant's food behavior, and infant's temperament. A further study was conducted on 29 infants at the time their ages reached 12 months. Their dietary intakes were assessed, and blood hemoglobin and serum ferritin concentrations were measured. Z-scores of weight-for-age(WAZ) and Z-scores of height-for-age(HAZ) of 4-9 month- old infants were not correlated with age, education level, income, weight, and height of their parents. Formula-fed infants had significantly lower WAZ and body mass index (BMI) than those of breast fed infants. WAZ was significantly correlated with maternal feeding attitude, but not with ideal body habitus, infant's food behavior or infant's temperament. WAZ of 12-months after birth because of supplementary foods introduced from 6 months of age. WAZ and BMI were positively correlated with blood hemoglobin concentration. Therefore, to ensure proper growth of infants, efforts should be given to postental factors such as breast-feeding, maternal feeding attitude, adequate iron status as well as prenatal factors. 세종시 유치원의 식생활지도 실태에 대한 영양사와 학부모의 인식 (Perception of Kindergartens Dietitians and Parents for Actual Dietary Guidance in Kindergartens of Sejong City)

  • This study aimed to investigate the dietary guidelines from the dietitians and parents' perceptions in kindergarten. The survey was carried out by 39 dietitians and 320 parents in kindergarten of Sejong city from April 18 to May 14, 2019. Approximately, 48.6% of dietitians responded that the amount of food provided was adjusted according to the age and weight of the infant. Both dietitians and parents responded the most to 'to build the right eating habits' as the reason for dietary guidance. As a guiding method for infants who sneaked unpleasant food, 62.9% of dietitians responded 'teach them about the wrong behavior on the spot', and 63.7% of parents stated 'talk about wrong behavior later'. The necessity of linking the dietary guidance between kindergarten and the family was recognized by dietitians and parents. The most important content for the linkage of the dietary guidance was 'correct eating manners and attitude'. The biggest problem in the dietitian's dietary guidance was the guidance on an unbalanced diet. Our results indicated differences in the dietary guidance contents of dietitians' and parents' perception of importance. Apparently, it is considered essential to link kindergarten with the family to provide correct and effective guidance for children.

Dietary intake and nutritional status of Korean children and adolescents: a review of national survey data

  • In Korea, several national cross-sectional surveys monitor the diet, nutritional status, and health status of children. This continual dedicated national surveillance system contributes to the identification of nutritional and health issues, establishment of public health policies, and development of nutrition recommendations. This paper provides recent information about the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey and describes key nationwide survey findings published in the last 5 years on infant feeding practices and the dietary intake and nutritional status of Korean infants, children, and adolescents. There have been increasing trends in children, and teenagers who skip breakfast, eat fast food, consume sugary drinks, have vitamin D deficiency, and are obese. This review will inform pediatricians, nutritionists, and other health care practitioners who track children's growth and development. It may also help researchers and policymakers identify diet-related policies and strategies for chronic disease prevention in Korean infants, children, and adolescents.

위험 지각이 소비자 태도 및 식품 구매 행동에 미치는 영향 - 멜라민 함유 식품군을 중심으로- (The Influence of Risk Perception upon Consumer"s Attitude and Purchase Behavior - Focusing on Melamine-Contained Food-)

  • The shock of melamine-contained food has been known with the incident of hospitalization or death of infants at the age of 11-month old in China. The purpose of this study was to examine consumers' risk perception, attitude and purchase behavior of melamine-contained food which recently came to the fore as a social issue, focusing on the relationship between consumers' attitude and purchase behavior based on physical risk, social risk, psychological risk, financial risk, consumers' attitude and purchase behavior. Study findings are as follows. First, the four factors of risk perception of melamine-contained food were significantly different by consumers. Consumers regarded social risk as most significant and it was followed by financial risk and psychological risk. And they regarded physical risk as most insignificant. Second, as for the difference of risk perception by demographic features, such factors as gender, age, marital status and schooling had no statistically significant influence. Third, the potential risk of melamine-contained food had a negative influence upon consumers' attitude and purchase behavior. In addition, consumers' attitude and purchase behavior were decided by perceived risks. This finding implies that consumers' attitude can accompany with negative or positive behavior and consumers' behavior can be related to social, financial and physical risks. Because the risk perception of melamine-contained food can cause consumers' distrust about all kinds of food in general, domestic manufacturers of milk product-contained confectionery and food can be harmed. In order to overcome this problem and make consumers purchase all the milk products and milk-contained food without fear, governmental agencies must reestablish systems with which the safety of imported raw materials and its processing can be insured and manufactures must improve the quality of products in a diverse and discriminative manner. This study seems to be meaningful in that it examined consumers' risk perception of melamine-contained food, a current social issue, and then looked into the influence of risk perception upon consumers" attitude and behavior, thus presenting the strategy of reestablishing the system of relationship between consumers and business entities in a desirable manner.

Clinical Characteristics of Failure to Thrive in Infant and Toddler: Organic vs. Nonorganic

  • Purpose: To investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes among infants and toddlers with failure to thrive (FTT). Methods: This retrospective study was done with 123 patients who had visited Pusan National University Children's Hospital during their first two years of life and had received an FTT diagnosis. We compared the clinical characteristics of the patients based on the causes of their FTT and their ages at the time of first hospital visit. We investigated triggering factors, feeding practices, and outcomes in 25 patients with nonorganic FTT (NOFTT). Results: Eighty cases (65.0%) were NOFTT. The gestational ages, birth weights, and weights at the first visits were significantly lower in patients with organic FTT (OFTT) (p<0.05). Infants who had first visited the clinic at age <6 months had the least z-score. The percentage of patients with severe weight decline was higher in OFTT than in NOFTT (60.0% vs. 17.3%). The z-scores at the follow-up visits were improved after treatment in both of the groups. Preceding infection was the most common triggering factor of NOFTT and persecutory feeding as abnormal behavior of caregiver was observed in 22 cases (88.0%). After treatment with feeding method modification, all patients with NOFTT showed normal growth. Conclusion: Weight decline is more severe in OFTT patients and in younger patients at the first visit. Infants with FTT can attain normal weight gain growth by treating organic diseases and supplying proper nutrition in OFTT, and by correcting abnormal dietary behavior of caregiver in NOFTT.

영.유아의 연령과 성별에 따른 식행동과 식품 기호도에 관한 연구 (Study of Eating Behavior and Food Preference in Young Children: Differences by Age and Gender)

  • The primary object of this study was to examine both preferences in a variety of foods and snacks and the eating habits among young children (aged 13 months through 50 months old). In addition, this study examined whether there would be significant differences in the preferences and eating habits by of young children of different ages and gender of young children. This study included 193 infants (85 boys, 108 girls) of aged 13 through 50 months of old who were enrolled in early childhood education and care settings in Seoul and Gyunggi Province. The information regarding food and snack preferences among young children were gathered through surveys filled out by their mothers and the children's overall eating habits were assessed by their teachers. The main results of this study were as follows. Overall, there were some patterns in eating bere asss and food preferences in foods and snacks among young children. There were no significant differences in both eating bere asss and food preferences by gender of young children. But, however, there were significant differences in food (p<0.001) and snack preferences (p<0.001) by of children of different ages of young children.

전북지역 어머니의 지속가능 식생활유형에 따른 영유아 자녀의 간식관리 및 간식제품에 대한 요구도 조사 (Study on the snack meal management for infants and toddlers and the demand for snack products according to the sustainable dietary style of mothers in Jeonbuk area)

  • 본 연구는 전북지역 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니 359명을 대상으로 지속가능 식생활 유형에 따른 자녀의 식생활 관리, 간식제공 실태, 간식제품에 대한 요구도 등을 조사하였으며, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 지속가능 식생활 추구성향은 요인분석에서 얻어진 3개의 요인을 군집분석을 실시한 결과, '가족건강추구집단', '지속가능 식생활진행집단', '지속가능관심집단'의 집단으로 분류하였다. 군집별 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 차이를 분석한 결과, 어머니의 연령, 교육수준, 직업, 월수입, 자녀의 성별, 자녀의 나이에서는 유의적인 차이는 없었지만 자녀의 보육형태 (p < 0.001)와 가족형태 (p < 0.01)에서는 유의적인 차이가 있었다. 지속가능 식생활유형에 따른 자녀의 식생활관리에서는 '지속가능 식생활진행집단'이 모든 항목에서 '가족건강추구집단'과 '지속가능관심집단'에 비해 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. '지속가능관심집단'의 가정 내에서 간식제공 실태는 하루 2-3번 제공하는 비율이 높았고, '지속가능 식생활진행집단'은 '원할 때 수시로'의 비율이 높았다. 간식제공의 이유로 '영양 보충'은 '가족건강추구집단', '자녀가 좋아해서'는 '지속가능 식생활진행집단'과 '지속가능관심집단'에서 유의적인 차이를 보였다 (p < 0.05). 간식에 대한 정보원은 '가족건강추구집단'은 친척·병원·보건소의 비율이 높았다. '지속가능 식생활진행집단'은 인터넷과 친척·병원·보건소와 신문·잡지·책에서 정보를 얻고 있으며, '지속가능관심집단'은 인터넷 이용비율이 높게 나타나 군집별 유의적인 차이를 보였다 (p < 0.05). 조사대상 어머니의 92.8%가 영유아 제품의 구매경험이 있으며, 구매제품의 종류는 '가족건강추구집단'과 '지속가능관심집단'에서 과자류(43.0%, 45.9%), 음료·차·퓨레 (30.5%, 21.6%)가 높게 나타났고, '지속가능 식생활진행집단'은 이유식 (22.3%)과 반찬류 (22.3%)가 다른 두 집단에 비해 높게 나타났다. 영유아 간식제품에 대하여 95.2%가 만족하고 있으며 (p < 0.05), 만족이유는 '성장단계에 맞는 제품의 선택이 가능'하기 때문이며, 불만족 이유는 '제품이 다양하지 않아서'가 높게 나타났다. 향후 영유아 간식제품에 대하여 '가족건강추구집단'은 '영양성분이 강화된 간식', '지속가능 식생활진행집단'과 '지속가능관심집단'은 '친환경적인 간식'과 '전통조리법이용 간식'을 희망하였다(p < 0.05). 이상의 결과, 전북지역 어머니의 지속가능 식생활 유형에 따라 인구통계학적 특성과 유아기 자녀의 식생활관리와 간식제품 구매행태 및 제품 요구도에 차이가 있었다. 본 결과는 지속가능 식생활유형별 영유아 자녀 어머니의 간식관리를 이해하고, 어머니 대상의 식생활교육과 영유아 간식제품 개발을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있겠다.

  • Changes in total lipid content. total cholesterol content and fatty acid composition of human milk were investigated longitudinaly from 2-5 days to 12 weeks postpartum Milk samples were collected from 19 Korean lactating women at 2-5 days and at 1. 2. 4. 6. and 12 weeks postpartum. The obtained results were as follows : On average the daily energy intake protein intake and fat intake of Korean lactating women was 1812 kcal 72.5g and 29.8g respectively. The composition ratio of energy consis-ting of protein fat and carbohydrate was 16:15:69 The total lipid content increased from 1.39g/이 at 2-5 days to 2.86g/dl at 12 weeks ; while the total cholesterol concentration (mg/g) decreased significantly with time following postpartum. The total unsaturated fatty acids content was higher in colostrum than in mature milk. and the total saturated fatty acids were higher in mature milk. The average DHA content was 0.55% and the P/S ratio of human milk lipids was 0.37.
