Effects of temperature coefficients fur dielectric constants on transient reflectances and thermal responses have been investigated for a metal(gold) thin-film during ultrashort pulse laser heating. Heating processes are simulated using the conventional conduction model(parabolic one-step, POS), the parabolic tow-step model(PTS), the hyperbolic two-step model(HTS). Results fro the HTS model are very similar to those from the PTS model, since the laser heating time in this study is considerably greater than the electron relaxation time. PTS and HTS models, however, result in completely different temperature profiles from those obtained by the POS model due to slow electron-lattice interactions compared to laser pulse duration. Transient reflectances are directly estimated from the linear relationship between electron temperature and complex dielectric constants, while conventional approaches assume that the change in reflectances is proportional to that in temperatuer. Reflectances at the front surface vary considerably for various dielectric constants, while those at the rear surface remain unchanged relatively.

We demonstrate that the finite rate of dielectric relaxation in liquid crystals which has been ignored previously causes profound effects in the fast dielectric reorientation of the director. The phenomenon is relevant for submillisecond switching of the director when the switching rate approaches the rate of dielectric relaxation through the reorientation of the molecular dipoles. A submillisecond switching ($15-400\;{\mu}s$ for an optical retardation shift $0.3-2.2\;{\mu}m$ in $10-15\;{\mu}m$ thick cells) is demonstrated for dual frequency nematic cells with high pretilt that maximizes the dielectric torque acting on the director. We propose the theory of dielectric response in which the electric displacement depends not only on the present (as in the standard theory) but also on the past values of electric field and director. We design an experiment in which the standard "instantaneous" model and our model predict effects of opposite signs; the experimental data support the latter model.

A free space transmission method using standard gain horn antennas in the frequency range from 9.0 to 10.5GHz is applied to determine the dielectric properties of grain such as rough rice ,brown rice and barley. The dielectric constant and loss factor, which depend on the moisture content of the wetted grain are obtained from the measured attenuation and phase shift by vector network analyzer. The moisture content of grain varied from 11 to 25% based on this wetted condition. The measured values of dielectric constants as a function of moisture density are compared with values of those obtained using he predicted model for estimating dielectric constants of grain. The effect of density fluctuation, high is an important parameter governing the dielectric properties of grain, on the dielectric constant and loss factor is presented. A new density-independent model in terms of measured attenuation an moisture density is proposed of reducing the effects of density fluctuation on the moisture content measurement.
The tracking pattern formed on the dielectric surface due to a surface electrical discharge exhibits fractal structure. In order to quantitatively investigate the fractal characteristics of the surface tracking pattern, the dielectric breakdown model has been employed to numerically generate the surface tracking pattern. In dielectric breakdown model, the pattern growth is determined stochastically by a probability function depending on the local electric potential difference. For the computation of the electric potential for all points of the lattice, a two-dimensional discrete Laplace equation is solved by mean of the successive over-relaxation method combined to the Gauss-Seidel method. The box counting method has been used to calculate the fractal dimensions of the simulated patterns with various exponent $\eta$ and breakdown voltage $\phi_b$. As a result of the simulation, it is found that the fractal nature of the surface tracking pattern depends strongly on $\eta$ and $\phi_b$.
The thermal and dielectric properties of unsaturated polyester resin system during cure were analyzed under Isothermal conditions. Both $varepsilon$′ and $varepsilon$" decreased and dipole relaxation was observed under isothermal conditions during cure. The ionic conductivity decreased linearly with the conversion according to the Kienle-Rate equation (ln($varepsilon$"$_{ionic}$we$_{0}$)=C$_{r}$$alpha$+C$_{0}$) up to $alpha$=0.15, after which it aparted from the relationship due to the entanglement of polymer chains. The effect of ionic conductivity was revealed to be larger than that of dipole motion during the whole cure through the electrical modulus analysis. Although dielectric motion was analyzed with Debye model, it was observed only at a narrow time region of middle stage of cure. In order to estimate the dielectric properties during the whole cure, the Havriliak-Negami model was considered and modified with the strong effect of ionic conductivity. The changes of $varepsilon$′ and $varepsilon$" were well estimated with this modified Havriliak-Negami model.
Orthorhombic dysprosium manganite DyMnO3 with single phase is synthesized using solid-state reaction technique and the crystal structure and dielectric properties as functions of temperature and frequency are investigated. Thermally activated dielectric relaxations are shown in the temperature dependence of the complex permittivity, and the respective peaks are found to be shifted to higher temperatures as the measuring frequency increases. In Arrhenius plots, activation energies of 0.32 and 0.24 eV for the high- and low-temperature relaxations are observed, respectively. Analysis of the relationship between the real and imaginary parts of the permittivity and the frequencies allows us to explain the dielectric behavior of DyMnO3 ceramics by the universal dielectric response model. A separation of the intrinsic grain and grain boundary properties is achieved using an equivalent circuit model. The dielectric responses of this circuit are discerned by impedance spectroscopy study. The determined grain and grain boundary effects in the orthorhombic DyMnO3 ceramics are responsible for the observed high- and low-temperature relaxations in the dielectric properties.
We Performed the modeling of the dielectric functions of InGaAs by using the parametric semiconductor model. Parametric model describes the analytic dielectric function as the summation of several energy-bounded Gaussian-broadened polynomials and provides a reasonably well parameterized function which can accurately reproduce the optical constants of InGaAs materials. We obtained the values of fitting parameters of an arbitrary composition $\chi$ through the parametric model. And then, from these parameters we could obtain the unknown dielectric functions of InGaAs alloy films ($0\leq\chi\leq1$).

In this study, we suggested the model to precisely evaluate the ferroelectric hysteresis loop, using the modified Sawyer-Tower circuit and the ferroelectric capacitor with a MDFM(Metal-Dielectric-ferroelectric-Metal) structure. The mathematical expression of dipole polarization is applied to the numerical integration algorithm, and the fatigue property can be considered including the dielectric layer between ferroelectrics and bottom electrode. The validity of our model is proved comparing the estimated value of our model and the measured results of PLT(10) thin film.

Piezoelectric BaTiO$_3$-polymer composite were investigated for dielectric and piezoelectric properties with the barium titanate active particle size. Under the condition of the same density and ceramic volume ratio of composite, the dielectric and piezoelectric constant of composite are increasing as the ceramic particle size in composite are increasing. The surface layer model was quoted to explain these phenomena in our system and experimentally confirmed. The connectivity parameter of modified cube model of composite was calculated from the dielectric constant variation as their particle size. The connectivity parameter X and Y were 77.8% and 98.9% respectively. It means that the barium titanate particle distribution in composite nearly approach to the parallel mode. It was experimentally confirmed that the surface layer has low dielectric and nonferroelectric properties. Dielectric constant and thickness of surface layer were calculated from the equivalent circuit of composite.
Temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric and electrical properties was investigated in cerium and manganese doped Sr$\_$0.6/Ba$\_$0.4/Nb$_2$O$\_$6/(60SBN) ceramic system. Structural deformation of 60SBN by dopants did not appeared. 1350$^{\circ}C$-10 h sintered specimen had higher densification than 1250$^{\circ}C$-10 h sintered one, to which dielectric properties are related. That the feature of dielectric maxima peaks was typical Diffusive Phase Transition (DPT), it was explained by "random-field Ising model". Even though 60SBN has large dielectric loss at high frequency above 100 ㎑, it is desirable for optical applications because of low dielectric loss at low frequency. From Arrhenius plot of temperature, the activation energy was calculated to 0.45-0.49 eV.
