Influence of the Precursor Solutions on the Properties of BST Thin Films

  • We have studied the effects of solvents and additives in the precursor solutions on the characteristics of barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films. The solution having two solvents, ie. acetic acid for barium acetate and strontium acetate and 2-methoxyethanol for titanium isopropoxide and also having an additive of ethylene glycol shows good stability and remains homogeneous even after a month of ageing. It produces excellent BST thin film without cracks. Dielectric constant, loss tangent at 10KHz and leakage current density at 3V of the BST (70/30) thin film made from this solution are 339, 0.052 and 13.3 ${\mu}\textrm{A}$/$\texmrm{cm}^2$, respectively.

  • In this study, composite $BaSrTiO_3$ has been studied for high frequency device applications. Composite $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ has high dielectric permittivity and low loss tangent at the relative frequency range from MHz to GHz. 10,30 and 50 wt% of epoxy doped $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ powders were prepared with bisphenol A and F polymer employing ball milling process. Epoxy/($BaSrTiO_3$) composites thick films were screen printed on the Cu plated PCB substrates through screen printing methods. The specimens were designed for the embedded capacitor applications. Temperature dependent dielectric permittivity of Epoxy doped $BaSrTiO_3$ ceramics was measured.

Preparation of BaTiO3/Poly(vinylidene fluoride) 0-3 Composite Films for Dielectric Applications

  • Ferroelectric $BaTiO_3$/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanocomposite films were successfully prepared by mixing $BaTiO_3$ nano-particles into PVDF solution dissolved in dimethylformamide under ultrasonification. The mixture was casted onto glass petri dish and then annealed at $100^{\circ}C$ for 12 h in vacuum dry oven. Crystal structure and surface morphology of the samples were analyzed by using an X-ray diffraction analysis and a field emission-scanning electron microscope, respectively. The relative dielectric permittivity and loss tangent were determined in the frequency range of 50 Hz to 1 MHz. For the $BaTiO_3/PVDF$ nanocomposites, the entire diffraction peaks match those indicated by standard $BaTiO_3$ perovskite structure. The FE-SEM image reveals the homogeneity of the $BaTiO_3$ nanopowder distribution and also predominant 0-3 connectivity. All results show that the dielectric properties of the nanocomposite films are desirable and the fabrication technique for preparing the $BaTiO_3/PVDF$ nanocomposites has a potential in the electronic applications.

Dielectric Properties of Continuous Composition Spreaded $BaTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ Thin Films Prepared by Off-Axis RF Magnetron Sputtering System

  • The dielectric properties of continuous composition spreaded (CCS) $BaTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ (BST) thin filmsgrown at room temperature and annealed at different temperature ($350^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$) were investigated. Moreover, electrical properties (leakage current and breakdown voltage) of CCS BST thin films were also investigated. The aluminum top-electrode, sized by $200{\times}200\;{\mu}m2$ and apart from each other by $300\;{\mu}m$, were deposited on the CCS BST thin films by the DC sputtering system. The dielectric properties of the CCS BST thin films were significantly influenced depending on the distance from $BaTiO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$ targets which was attributed to the $BaTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ composition ratio. The maps of dielectric constants and loss tangents were plotted via $1500\;{\mu}m$ - step measuring. The specific points showing the dielectric constant (k: ~300) and loss tangent (tand: ~0.008) at 1 MHz were found.

  • 원통형 공동 공진기를 이용한 유전체의 전자기적 특성들의 측정 방법에 대해 기술한다. 여기에 관련된 유전체의 전자기적 특성들은 비유전율, 손실 반젠트, Q factor 등이 있다. 동심 유전체 봉이 삽입된 원통형 공동 공진기에서 $TE_{011}$ 모드의 사용이 제한되었다. $TE_{011}$ 모드는 유전체 봉과 공진기 벽면 틈에 의한 공진주파수 민감도가 가장 덜 민감하게 변화하였다. 동심 유전체 봉이 삽입된 원통형 공동 공진기의 $TE_{011}$ 모드를 사용하는 방법과 새롭게 제안된 non-decaying 모드의 정확한 전자계 표현은 유전체의 전자기적 특성들의 정확한 측정을 위해 소개되었다.

  • In this study, the effect of the content of $MgO-CaO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ (MCAS) glass additives on the properties of AlN ceramics is investigated. Dilatometric analysis and isothermal sintering for AlN compacts with MCAS contents varying between 5 and 20 wt% are carried out at temperatures ranging up to $1600^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the shrinkage of the AlN specimens increases with increasing MCAS content, and that full densification can be obtained irrespective of the MCAS content. Moreover, properties of the AlN-MCAS specimens such as microhardness, thermal conductivity, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss are analyzed. Microhardness and thermal conductivity decrease with increasing MCAS content. An acceptable candidate for AlN application is obtained: an AlN-MCAS composite with a thermal conductivity over $70W/m{\cdot}K$ and a dielectric loss tangent (tan ${\delta}$) below $0.6{\times}10^{-3}$, with up to 10 wt% MCAS content.

  • The ($0.8BaTiO_3-0.1SrTiO_3-0.1MgTiO_3$)+$0.006Nb_2O_5$ ceramics were fabricated by conventional ceramic process. The dielectric property of specimen was investigated that the specimen was sintering temperature at 1,300C for 3hours and then annealed at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 3hours in a atmosphere (air) to be painted on the surface with CuO paste. The results of the temperature and frequency are varied, the dielectric constant and loss tangent are unsuitable for BL capacitor. The dielectric constants were varied to be negative temperature coefficient(2.000-3,000) in the temperature range between -10 and $140^{\circ}C$, the dissipation factors (tan $\delta$) were some high(0.1-0.3). It was not grain insulation, in cause of the some difficult to be annealed temperature with CuO paste and fired atmosphere. But, we have some different annealing temperature and fired atmosphere, it will be suitable BL(Boundary Layer)capacitor.

  • Due to the outstanding insulating characteristics, Laminated Polypropylene paper (LPP) and Kraft paper have been used as ac power insulation for conventional cable. Recently, both of LPP and Kraft has been studied as main insulation fur high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable. Ifowever, studies on the use of LPP/Kraft paper for HTS cables are thinly scattered. In this paper, the comparison among LPP, Kraft and LPP/Kraft Samples impregnated with liquid nitrogen $(LN_2)$ on dielectric insulation characteristics was investigated. It was found from the experimental data that the breakdown strength becomes lower in the order LPP, Lpp/Kraft and Kraft but the lifetime indices n becomes lower in the order Kraft, LPP/Kraft, LPP. Moreover, partial discharge inception and dielectric loss tangent become lower in the order Kraft, LPP, LPP/Kraft.

La 농도가 PLT 박막의 전기적 및 광학적 특성에 미치는 효과 (The effects of la content on the electrical and optical properties of (Pb, La)TiO$_{3}$ thin films)

  • We have studied the effects of La concentration on the optical and electrical properties of lead lanthanum titanate (PLT) thin films by using sol-gel method. Both the optical and electrical properties are greatly affected by the La concentration. The refreactiv eindices of the films varied from 2.23 to 1.93 with varying La concentration in the range from 15 to 33 mol%. The dielectric constants of the films vary form 340 to 870 with varying La concentration in the range form 15 to 33 mol%. Hysteresis loop becomes slimmer with the increase of La concentration form 15 to 28mol% and little fatter again with the increase of La concentration form 28 to 33 mol%. Among the films investigated in this research, PLT(28) thin film shows the best dielectric properties for the application to the dielectrics of ULSI DRAM's. At the frequency of 100Hz, the dielectric constant and the loss tangent of PLT(28) thin films are 940 and 0.08 respectively. Its leakage current density at 1.5${\times}10^{5}$V/cm is 1${\times}10^{-6}A/cm^{2}$. The comparision between the simulated and the experimental curves for the switching transient characteristics shows that PLT (28) thin films behaves like normal dielectrics.

La0.5Sr0.5CrO3 세라믹스의 전기전도특성 (Electrical Transport Properties of La0.5Sr0.5CrO3 Ceramics)

  • The electrical transport properties of $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ below room temperatures were investigated by dielectric, dc resistivity, magnetic properties and thermoelectric power. Below $T_c$, $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ contains a dielectric relaxation process in the tangent loss and electric modulus. The $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ involves the transition from high temperature thermal activated conduction process to low temperature one. The transition temperature corresponds well to the Curie point. The relaxation mechanism has been discussed in the frame of electric modulus spectra. The scaling behavior of the modulus suggests that the relaxation mechanism describes the same mechanism at various temperatures. The low temperature conduction and relaxation takes place in the ferromagnetic phase. The ferromagnetic state in $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ indicates that the electron - magnon interaction occurs, and drives the carriers towards localization in tandem with the electron - lattice interaction even at temperature above the Curie temperature.
