Load Flow calculation methods can usually be divided into Gauss-Seidel method, Newton-Raphson method and decoupled method. Load flow calculation is a basic on-line or off-line process for power system planning, operation, control and state analysis. These days Newton-Raphson method is mainly used since it shows remarkable convergence characteristics. It, however, needs considerable calculation time in construction and calculation of inverse Jacobian matrix. In addition to that, Newton-Raphson method tends to fail to converge when system loading is heavy and system has a large R/X ratio. In this paper, matrix equation is used to make algebraic expression and then to solve load flow equation and to modify above defects. And it preserve certain part of Jacobian matrix to shorten the time of calculation. Application of mentioned algorithm to 14 bus, 39 bus, 118 bus systems led to identical result and the number of iteration got by Newton-Raphson method. The effect of time reduction showed about 28%, 30%, at each case of 39 bus, 118 bus system.

Steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) are classified as lateral load-resisting systems. The feasibility of openings in the steel plate is a characteristic of SPSWs. The use of openings in SPSWs can lower the load capacity, stiffness, and energy dissipation. This study proposes a novel form of SPSWs that provides convenient access through openings by combining steel plates and eccentrically braced frames (EBFs). The proposed system also avoids a substantial reduction in the strength and stiffness. Hence, various geometric forms were analyzed through two different structural approaches. Groups 1, 2, and 3 included a steel EBF with a steel plate between the column and EBF in order to improve system performance. In Group 4, the proposed system was evaluated within an SPSW with openings and an EBF on the opening edge. To evaluate the performance of the proposed systems, the nonlinear finite element method (NL-FEM) was employed under cyclic loading. The hysteresis (load-drift) curve, stress contour, stiffness, and damping were evaluated as the structural outputs. The numerical models indicated that local buckling within the middle plate-EBF connection prevented a diagonal tension field. Moreover, in group 4, the EBF and stiffeners on the opening edge enhanced the structural response by approximately 7.5% in comparison with the base SPSW system.
Purpose: Contrast, sharpness, enhancement, and density can be changed in digital systems. The important question is to what extent the changes in these variables affect the accuracy of caries detection. Materials and Methods: Forty eight extracted human posterior teeth with healthy or proximal caries surfaces were imaged using a photostimulable phosphor (PSP) sensor. All original images were processed using a six-step method: (1) applying "Sharpening 2" and "Noise Reduction" processing options to the original images; (2) applying the "Magnification 1:3" option to the image obtained in the first step; (3) enhancing the original images by using the "Diagonal/"option; (4) reviewing the changes brought about by the third step of image processing and then, applying "Magnification 1:3"; (5) applying "Sharpening UM" to the original images; and (6) analyzing the changes brought about by the fifth step of image processing, and finally, applying "Magnification 1:3." Three observers evaluated the images. The tooth sections were evaluated histologically as the gold standard. The diagnostic accuracy of the observers was compared using a chi-squared test. Results: The accuracy levels irrespective of the image processing method ranged from weak (18.8%) to intermediate (54.2%), but the highest accuracy was achieved at the sixth image processing step. The overall diagnostic accuracy level showed a statistically significant difference (p=0.0001). Conclusion: This study shows that the application of "Sharpening UM" along with the "Magnification 1:3" processing option improved the diagnostic accuracy and the observer agreement more effectively than the other processing procedures.
Present investigation shows the analysis results for ceramic reinforced metal matrix composite under uniaxial transverse tensile loading. The resulting deformation, the projected damage type, and stress-strain behavior were computed depending on microstructure details such as the type of periodic reinforcement array, and the type of interface bonding. A two-dimensional finite element analysis was conducted based on the unit-cell of square, hexagonal, or diagonal periodic away For composite with strong interface bonding, the transverse stress vs. strain curve was generally increased with the increase of the ceramic volume fraction. For the composite with weakly bonded interface, however, the transverse stress vs. strain curve was reduced against the ceramic volume fraction. The decrease was caused by the interface debonding-induced stiffness reduction of the composite. For the composite of weakly bonded interface, the relative reduction rate in the final limit stress for hexagonal array was larger than that for square array. Outcome of the present study was compared favorably with the published literature data.
As described in the previous paper (Park et al. 2013), the detector subsystem of optical wide-field patrol (OWL) provides many observational data points of a single artificial satellite or space debris in the form of small streaks, using a chopper system and a time tagger. The position and the corresponding time data are matched assuming that the length of a streak on the CCD frame is proportional to the time duration of the exposure during which the chopper blades do not obscure the CCD window. In the previous study, however, the length was measured using the diagonal of the rectangle of the image area containing the streak; the results were quite ambiguous and inaccurate, allowing possible matching error of positions and time data. Furthermore, because only one (position, time) data point is created from one streak, the efficiency of the observation decreases. To define the length of a streak correctly, it is important to locate the endpoints of a streak. In this paper, a method using a differential convolution mask pattern is tested. This method can be used to obtain the positions where the pixel values are changed sharply. These endpoints can be regarded as directly detected positional data, and the number of data points is doubled by this result.

This paper is a study on image noise reduction of modified sigma filter by image decomposition using directivity. Conventional sigma filter has been shown to be a good solution both in terms of filtering accuracy and computational complexity. However, the sigma filter does not preserve well small edges especially for high level of additive noise. In this paper, we propose here a new method using a modified sigma filter. In our proposed method the input image is first decomposed in two components that have features of horizontal, vertical and diagonal direction. Then, two components are applied HPF and LPF. By applying a conventional sigma filter separately on each of them, the output image is reconstructed from the filtered components. Added noise is removed and our proposed method preserves the edges from the image. Comparative results from experiments show that the proposed algorithm achieves higher gains, on average, 2.6 dB PSNR than the sigma filter and 0.5 dB PSNR than the modified sigma filter. When relatively high levels of noise added, the proposed algorithm shows better performance than two conventional filters.

This study attempts to identify the ways of reducing the floor impact sound, by applying six different types of the reinforced bar girders and stirrup arrangements to the Structure: (1) the longer-direction girder arrangements (2) the shorter-direction girder arrangements (3) the diagonal-direction arrangements (4) the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups (5) the shorter-direction girder arrangements with stirrups (6) the diagonal-direction arrangements with stirrups. In order to identify the most effective structural changes, each slab was tested with bang machines, measuring the level of the sound impact. The results showed that the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups were the most effective one. In addition, the effectiveness of slab was found to be remarkable, showing the level of minimum 1dB to maximum 5dB, where the slab was compared with the control models without girders and stirrups. In conclusion, it is suggested that the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups could possibly be applied to the Wall Structures to minimize the floor impact sound.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect scale invariant object from IR image obtained in the sea environment. We create horizontal edge (HL), vertical edge (LH), diagonal edge (HH) of images through 2-D discrete Haar wavelet transform (DHWT) technique after noise reduction using morphology operations. Considering the sea environment, Gaussian blurring to the horizontal and vertical edge images at each level of wavelet is performed and then saliency map is generated by multiplying the blurred horizontal and vertical edges and combining into one image. Then we extract object candidate region by performing a binarization to saliency map. A small area in the object candidate region are removed to produce final result. Experiment results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
In video compression, Motion Estimation(ME) limits the performance of image quality and generated bit rates. However, it requires much complexity in the encoder part. Multi-view video uses many cameras at different positions. Multi-view video coding needs huge computational complexity in proportion to the number of the cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, an effective motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method exploiting the characteristics of motion vector distribution and the motion of video. The proposed is a kind of a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy consists of multi-grid rhombus pattern, diagonal pattern, rectangle pattern, and refinement pattern. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed method over TZ search method and PBS (Pel Block Search) on JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) can be up to 40~75% and 98% respectively while maintaining similar video image quality and generated bit rates.

This paper presents an effective demosaicking algorithm for color filter array (CFA) images acquired from single-sensor devices based on directional interpolation and nonlocal properties of the image. We interpolate the G channel considering diagonal directions as well as horizontal and vertical directions, using a small number of pixels to reflect local properties of the image. Then, we overcome image degradations, such as zipper effects near edges and false colors, by applying nonlocal means (NLM) filtering to the interpolated pixels. R and B channels are reproduced by using directional interpolation with information of the reconstructed G channel and NLM filtering. Experimental results for various McMaster images with high saturation and color changes show that the proposed algorithm accomplishes high PSNR compared with conventional methods. Moreover, the proposed method demonstrates better subjective quality compared with existing methods in terms of reduction of quality degradation, like false colors, and preservation of the image structures, such as edges and textures.
