  • Background & Object : The aim of this study was to investigate the usefulness of electrogastrography on differential diagnosis of deficiency or excess Condition in patients with functional dyspepsia Methods : Selected symptoms for diagnosis of deficiency and excess in functional dyspepsia have been reviewed in some literatures, notably within Oriental medicine, Donguibogam and Gogeumdoseojipseong-uibujeolrok. This is what was investigated in this study. 93 patients (male 32, female 61) were divided into three groups; Non-pain group, Pre-treatment pain group (chief complain was abdominal pain at the first medical examination), and Mid-treatment pain group(they had no pain at the time of first medical examination, but showed abdominal pain within two weeks). 10 healthy people participated as normal controls. Gastric motility were recorded and analyzed using electrogastrography during fasting and postprandial period. In assessment, effectiveness was divided into validity, sensitivity and specificity. Results : Epigastric pain reflected the tendency for excess condition in comprehensive diagnosis, which was linked with postprandial arrhythmia in electrogastrography(p=0.001). Postprandial arrhythmia detected abdominal pain with a validity of 78.6%, a sensitivity of 79.2%, and a specificity of 78%(p<0.001). Conclusions : Results 1Tom Postprandial arrhythmia in electrogastrography support that the index of excess condition in the comprehensive diagnosis of symptoms is useful for patients with functional dyspepsia.

  • It is difficult to combine oriental and western medicine. Each medicine has a different academic background, perspective on the world, and studying methodology. The claim that two paradigms can not be combined is not obtained from an actual verification, but this means it is so hard to combine two medicines having different backgrounds. The amalgamation of oriental and western medicine should be phased in on the basis of the continuous reciprocal understanding and commitment. First, the strength and weakness of each medicine over the treatment and research are required to be identified. Then, a few complementary areas can be chosen enabling a trial of fusion on a small scale. A cycle of problem solving and a new research can be set by analyzing research results obtained through the implementation over a period of time. In other words, the researchers of oriental and western medicine should repeat a continuous and gradual complementary research process by identifying issues to be improved and complemented through a consensus. Once the methodology obtained through the process of problem solving and proficient implementation is established in a stable condition, a method to widen the fusion area by expanding the operating area and implementation method can be chosen. However, the integral system of oriental medicine shouldn't be substituted by mechanical idea or reductionism. What should be done primarily for oriental medicine is to objectify things through quantification. In particular, the oriental treatment should accept the microscopic diagnosis to determine the structure and observe the biochemical change.

High accuracy showed when the test was performed with about 35 significant questions and four questions selected based on SPSS Wilks' lambda. 3. There was accuracy of 90.9% when differentiation was performed by using CART compared with original diagnosis. 4. 10 factors has a high initial value after factor analysis, consisting of questions to the similar differentiation. 5. Diagnosis formula of headache was made by using weighting method based on expert opinions. Conclusion: Oriental medical diagnosis questionnaires make it possible to classify headaches significantly. The study about weighting method of CTTH can make it possible to classify symptoms more accurately.
