  • This study was aimed to investigate the tensile behaviors of PE(Polyethylene) fiber-reinforced highly ductile cementitious composites with different combinations of micro silica sand and normal sand(river sand) with maximum particle size of 4.75 mm. Flow test result indicated the increase of flowability with higher replacement ratio of river sand. There was no noticeable difference in the mean compressive strength with different replacement ratio of river sand, but the variation in the compressive strength increased as higher amount of river sand was adopted for the replacement. The difference in the uniaxial tensile strength was negligible, but the tensile strain capacity was significantly influenced by the replacement ratio of river sand. It is thought that increased density of multiple cracks induced improved tensile strain capacity when higher percentage of river sand was adopted for fine aggregate. The deviation in the strain capacity increased as the replacement ratio of river sand was higher, as in the compressive strength. This study presented the feasibility of using normal sand instead of micro silica sand for highly ductile cementitious composites with equivalent or better uniaxial tensile performance, even though it might increase the deviation in the performance.

  • Two main parameters of NRCS-CN method are curve numbers and intial loss ratio. They are generally selected according to the guideline of US National Engineering Handbook, however, they might cause errors on estimated runoff in Korea because there are differences between soil types and hydrological characteristics of Korean watersheds and those of United States. In this study, applying asymptotic CN regression method, we suggested eight modified NRCS-CN models to decide optimum runoff estimation model for Korean watersheds. RSR (RMSE-observations standard deviation ratio) and NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency) were used to evaluate model performance, consequently M6 for gauged basins (Avg. RSR was 0.76, Avg. NSE was 0.39) and M7 for ungauged basins (Avg. RSR was 0.82, Avg. NSE was 0.31) were selected. Furthermore it was observed that initial loss ratios ranging from 0.01 to 0.10 were more adequate than the fixed ${\lambda}=0.20$ in most of basins.

  • This study was conducted to assay the relationship between the characteristics of watershed and water quality, and to evaluate water quality characteristics of the classified types by TSI deviation analysis with the collected data from 490 reservoir. Relatively shallow depth (<5m) reservoirs out of selected 490 appeared to be eutrophic. The mean TP concentration in reservoirs with the PFA+UFA/watershed area of above 30% was ${\geq}0.1$ mg $L^{-1}$. The mean TN concentration in reservoirs with the PFA/watershed area of above 25% was ${\geq}2.6$ mg $L^{-1}$. Based on the TSI deviation analysis, water quality parameters in TYPE III reservoirs were in high concentration compared to other reservoirs types. Characteristics of Type III generally showed eutrophic, small DA/RA ratio, shallow depth, and large paddy field and upland field to watershed ratio compared to other types of reservoirs. Both water quality and morpho-physical parameters, Type I and II reservoirs were similar with the exceptions of BOD and chi. ${\alpha}$ concentration. Phosphorus in Type I reservoirs was not the primary limiting factor on algal growth, but significant decrease chl. ${\alpha}$ concentration with the increasing TN/TP indicated that phosphorus was the possible secondary limiting factor. Overall results indicated that type of land use, such as PFA and UFA area in watershed, was important parameters for the assessment of water quality characteristics, and phosphorus was limiting nutrient on algal growth in 490 reservoirs.

  • Background and Objectives: The prognostic impact of left axis deviation (LAD) on clinical outcomes in acute heart failure syndrome (AHFS) with left bundle branch block (LBBB) is unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic significance of axis deviation in acute heart failure patients with LBBB. Methods: Between March 2011 and February 2014, 292 consecutive AHFS patients with LBBB were recruited from 10 tertiary university hospitals. They were divided into groups with no LAD (n=189) or with LAD (n=103) groups according to QRS axis <-30 degree. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Results: The median follow-up duration was 24 months. On multivariate analysis, the rate of all-cause death did not significantly differ between the normal axis and LAD groups (39.7% vs. 46.6%, adjusted hazard ratio, 1.01; 95% confidence interval, 0.66, 1.53; p=0.97). However, on the multiple linear regression analysis to evaluate the predictors of the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), presence of LAD significantly predicted a worse LVEF (adjusted beta, -3.25; 95% confidence interval, -5.82, -0.67; p=0.01). Right ventricle (RV) dilatation was defined as at least 2 of 3 electrocardiographic criteria (late R in lead aVR, low voltages in limb leads, and R/S ratio <1 in lead V5) and was more frequent in the LAD group than in the normal axis group (p<0.001). Conclusions: Among the AHFS with LBBB patients, LAD did not predict mortality, but it could be used as a significant predictor of worse LVEF and RV dilatation (Trial registry at KorAHF registry, ClinicalTrial.gov, NCT01389843).

  • This research has been focused on accessing precision and accuracy of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)-derived 3-D surveying coordinates. To this end, a highly precise and accurate testing control network had been established by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) campaign and its network adjustment. The coordinates of the ground control points and the check points were estimated within 1cm accuracy for 95% of the confidence level. FC330 camera mounted on DJI Phantom 4 repeatedly took aerial photos of an experimental area seven times, and then processed them by two widely used software packages. To evaluate the precision and accuracy of the aerial surveys, 3-D coordinates of the ten check points which automatically extracted by software were compared with GNSS solutions. For the 95% confidence level, the standard deviation of two software's result is within 1cm, 2cm, and 4cm for the north-south, east-west, and height direction, and RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) is within 9cm and 8cm for the horizontal, vertical component, respectively. The interest is that the standard deviation is much smaller than RMSE. The F-ratio test was performed to confirm the statistical difference between the two software processing results. For the standard deviation and RMSE of most positional components, exception of RMSE of the height, the null hypothesis of the one-tailed tests was rejected. It indicates that the result of UAV photogrammetry can be different statistically based on the processing software.

  • The effect of equivalence ratio and fuel/air mixing quality on the phase-resolved gas temperatures at different phases of the oscillating pressure cycle was experimentally investigated. An atmospheric pressure, optically accessible and laboratory-scale dump combustor operating on methane with heat release rate of 1.59kW was used. Temperature measurements were made using coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) at several spatial locations fur typical unstable combustion conditions. Analysis was conducted using parameters such as phase-resolved averaged temperature, normalized standard deviation and temperature probability distribution functions (PDFs). Also the probability on the occurrence of high temperature (over 1900K) was investigated to get the information on the perturbation of equivalence ratio and NOx emission characteristics. It was shown that most of temperature histograms exhibit Gaussian profile which has short breadth of temperature fluctuation at equivalence ratio of 0.6, while beta profile was predominant for the cases of other equivalence ratios (${\Phi}$=0.55, 0.50). It was also shown that phase-resolved averaged temperature oscillated in phase with pressure cycle, while normalized standard deviations which represent temporal turbulent intensity of temperature showed nearly constant value around 0.1. The characteristics on the occurrence of high temperature also displayed periodic wave form which was very similar to the pressure signal. And the amplitude of this profile went larger as the fuel/air mixing quality became poorer. These also provided additional information on the perturbation of equivalence ratio at flame as well as NOx emission characteristics.

  • This study was carried out to assay the relationships between empirical factors and water quality in 23 agricultural reservoirs. Based on the trophic state index (TSI) deviation analysis, phosphorus in type II and III was the primary limiting factor on algal growth. BOD, COD, TP and chl.a concentration in type III reservoirs showed higher concentration than those of other types, while SS and TN concentration was no noticeable difference among three types. Characteristics of type III reservoirs showed large reservoir surface and drainage area, large surface area to volume (SAV) ratio, small drainage area to reservoir area (DA/RA) ratio, relatively old age, large paddy field and upland field to drainage area ratio (Mean 17.4%) and high generation and discharge loads compared to other types of reservoirs. In type I and II reservoirs, trends of BOD, TN, TP concentration in water column, were similar to those of the discharge load of pollutants. Although type II reservoirs generally showed low phosphorus discharge loads compared to type I reservoirs, TP and chl.a concentration in water column was greater than that of type I. Characteristics of type II reservoirs showed relatively large SAV ratio and old age compared to type I reservoirs and was similar to those of type III including eutrophic reservoirs.

  • The uncertain geotechnical properties of frozen soil are important evidence for the design, operation and maintenance of the frozen ground. The complex geological, environmental and physical effects can lead to the spatial variations of the frozen soil, and the uncertain mechanical properties are the key factors for the uncertain analysis of frozen soil engineering. In this study, the elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio of warm frozen soil were measured, and the statistical characteristics under different temperature conditions are obtained. The autocorrelation distance (ACD) and autocorrelation function (ACF) of uncertain mechanical properties are estimated by random field (RF) method. The results show that the mean elastic modulus and mean strength decrease with the increase of temperature while the mean Poisson ratio increases with the increase of temperature. The average values of the ACD for the elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio are 0.64m, 0.53m and 0.48m, respectively. The standard deviation of the ACD for the elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio are 0.03m, 0.07m and 0.03m, respectively. The ACFs of elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio decrease with the increase of ratio of local average distance and scale of fluctuation. The ACF of uncertain mechanical properties is different when the temperature is different. This study can improve our understanding of the spatial autocorrelation variations of uncertain geotechnical properties and provide a basis and reference for the uncertain settlement analysis of frozen soil foundation.

  • The main object of this study was to prove the effectiveness of different merging methods by using the high resolution IRS(Indian Remote Sensing Satellite)-1C panchromatic data and the multispectral Landsat TM data. The five methods used to merging the information contents of each of the satellite data were the intensity-hue-saturation(IHS), principal component analysis(PCA), high pass filter(HPF), ratio enhancement method and look-up-table(LUT) procedures. Two measures are used to evaluate the merging method. These measures include visual inspection and comparisons of the mean, standard deviation and root mean square error between merged image and original image data values of each band. The ratio enhancement method was well preserved the spectral characteristics of the data. From visual inspection, PCA method provide the best result, HPF next, ratio enhancement, IHS and LUT method the worst for the preservation of spatial resolution.

  • This paper analyzes the deviation of tunneling current for the ratio of top and bottom gate oxide thickness of short channel asymmetric double gate(DG) MOSFET. The ratio of tunneling current for off current significantly increases if channel length reduces to 5 nm. This short channel effect occurs for asymmetric DGMOSFET having different top and bottom gate oxide structure. The ratio of tunneling current in off current with parameters of channel length and thickness, doping concentration, and top/bottom gate voltages is calculated in this study, and the influence of tunneling current to occur in short channel is investigated. The analytical potential distribution is obtained using Poisson equation and tunneling current using WKB(Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin). As a result, tunneling current is greatly changed for the ratio of top and bottom gate oxide thickness in short channel asymmetric DGMOSFET, specially according to channel length, channel thickness, doping concentration, and top/bottom gate voltages.
