  • This paper presents an enhanced preprocessing and recognition algorithm for automatic vehicle license plate recognition system. The algorithm first applies horizontal gradient filter followed by thresholding and mathematical morphology operation for preprocessing. The final stage of the preprocessing is the application of connected component analysis in order to estimate the license plate region. For the recognition of the serial numbers of the plates, we developed a very effective algorithm. We call this zerocrossing count algorithm. This paper presents a detail of this algorithm and compare the performance with a template matching algorithm which utilizes correlation coefficient.

Study on Difference of Characteristics between Backward and Forward Blades in Centrifugal Blower (원심형 송풍기에 있어서 전향익과 후향익의 특성 차이에 관한 연구)

  • Centrifugal blowers are widely used for air handling units in industry applications. The blower has a centrifugal impeller and a scroll casing including a driving component such as an electric motor. The impeller takes forward or backward blades to induce flows into the blower. Comprehensive investigation according to the two kinds of blades is systematically carried out for a guidance of design. It is observed that flow rate of the blower with forward blades is larger than that of the system with backward blades. The reason is due to larger velocity from the rotating forward blades and the tendency is validated by a parallel experiment with a wind tunnel. Numerical analysis for the system shows detail information inside the blades and the casing. A series of figures to show the flow details offers deep understanding of a centrifugal blower with different blades.

  • In this paper, unsettled technical controversies concerning about fatigue strength analysis for FPSO, one of the representative floaters, associated with welding types, screening methods, fabrication tolerances, corrosion margins and Morison loads are described based on yard practices. Basic theory for stochastic fatigue analysis is introduced as detail as possible. In order to resolve large parts of the controversies, a new fully stochastic fatigue analysis program for FPSO is developed.

Signal processing based damage detection in structures subjected to random excitations

  • Damage detection methodologies based on the direct examination of the nonlinear-nonstationary characteristics of the structure dynamic response may play an important role in online structural health monitoring applications. Different signal processing based damage detection methodologies have been proposed based on the uncovering of spikes in the high frequency component of the structural response obtained via Discrete Wavelet transforms, Hilbert-Huang transforms or high pass filtering. The performance of these approaches in systems subjected to different types of excitation is evaluated in this paper. It is found that in the case of random excitations, like earthquake accelerations, the effectiveness of such methodologies is limited. An alternative damage detection approach using the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) is also evaluated to overcome this limitation. Using the CWT has the advantage that the central frequencies at which it operates can be defined by the user while the frequency bands of the detail functions obtained via DWT are predetermined by the sampling period of the signal.

  • The characteristics of a pulsating flow field from a heated block representing heat-dissipating electronic component in a channel have been numerically investigated. At the channel inlet a pulsating sinusoidal flow is imposed. The Reynolds number based on the channel height (H) is fixed at Re=500, and the forcing frequency is varied in the range of $0\leqSt\leq2$. Numerical results on the time-dependent flow field are obtained and averaged over a cycle of pulsation. The effect of the important governing parameters such as the Strouhal number is investigated in detail. The results indicate that the recirculating flow behind the block is substantially affected by the pulsation frequency. To characterize the periodic vortex shedding due to the inflow pulsation, numerical flow visualizations are carried out.

  • By changing housing market, housing cultural center furnishes information, value added, image of housing. For publicity their unique house, construction companies provide not only concrete and substantial material but also sensible and capacity service through the community space of housing cultural center. The consumer's experience of housing cultural center have an effect on purchase power apartment. The image of enterprise is important to select commodities to consumers. Though main clients are women, housing cultural center has not space concept and aim to concern for them. According to begin women a group of consumers, they have purchasing power in family. Apartment is no exception. Housing cultural center is used as continuous culture space that provide various experiential chance for consumer, especially women by systematize and distinct design detail and feature component. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is an analysis about community space of housing cultural center with the woman marketing based on experience.

  • 본 논문에서는 이산 웨이블릿 변환(DWT;discrete wavelet transform)의 다해상도 분석(MRA;multi-resolution analysis)을 통해 분해된 배터리의 저주파 전압 성분(approximation;$A_n$) 기반 SOC(State-of-charge) 추정방법을 소개한다. 급격한 전압 변화의 특성을 나타내는 고주파 전압 성분(detail;$D_n$)이 제거되고 저주파 전압 성분만이 SOC 추정을 위해 사용된다. 이 경우 기존 확장 칼만필터(EKF;extended Kalman filter)에서 SOC 추정에러를 개선하기 위해 사용되었던 노이즈 모델의 생략이 가능하여 알고리즘의 복잡성이 개선된다. 개선된 확장 칼만필터 기반 SOC 추정 결과를 통해 제안된 방법을 검증하였다.

A Study on Filtration System Model and Comparative Performance Tests of Automotive (여과시스템 모델과 자동차 연료필터의 비교성능시험 연구)

  • This study presents the comparative filtration performance evaluation of automotive fuel filters based on the theory of Beta ratio. For the experiments, the fuel component's test stand incorporating the multi-pass filtration test circuit was developed. A mathematical description of filtration process in general was derived. And the theoretical basis of multi-pass test and the test procedure were described in detail. Experimental results revealed that domestic fuel filter tested could not maintain consistent Beta ratio, that is filtration efficiency, although it had the holding capacity of contaminants close to the specification at maximum pressure drop across the filter assembly. The results of experiments and simulations also showed that filtration system model could be refined including desorption ratio to estimate the variable Beta ratio in service life.

  • This study carries out the performance improvement and simplification of hydraulic modulator that plays an important role in vehicle stability control systems. The mathematical models for each component of a modulator, such as pump, wheel cylinder, check and solenoid valve, accumulator, damper are derived in detail. All the mathematical models are combined to form a modulator system and implemented through a computer program, which can be controlled by a user friendly GUI. To verity the simulation, comparison between simulation and experiments has been made. After the verification of the validity of the simulation, the effects of the design parameters of the modulator on the wheel cylinder pressure is investigated. The results show that the modulator without MPA has advantage in early time pressure rise rate, and it can be simplified.

  • This paper intents to suggest the re-engineering methodology to transform and integrate the legacy systems to new system in modern environment. While existing reverse engineering and re-engineering approaches have focused on analyzing and maintaining the source code of program. our methodology can provide the procedures and techniques for evolving into new system by recovering the reverse engineering informations and transforming them into component informations. Our methodology for componentization of legacy system is consisted of plan step, reverse engineering step, componentization step, and delivery step, and we describes activities and detail procedures about each step.
