  • In an attempt to solve multiobjective optimization problems, weighted sum method is most widely used for the advantage that a designer can consider the relative significance of each object functions by weight values but it can be highly sensitive to weight vector and occasionally yield a deviated optimum from the relative weighting values designer designated because the multiobjective function has the form of simple sum of the product of the weighting values and the object functions in traditional approach. To search the design solution well agree to the designer's weighting values, we proposed new multiobjective function which is the functional of each normalized objective functions and considered to find the design solution comparing the distance between the characteristic line and the ideal optimum. In this study, proposed multiobjective function was applied to design high efficiency and low noise axial flow fan and the result shows this approach will be effective for the case that the qualify of the design can be highly affected by the designer's subjectiveness represented as weighting values in multiobjective design optimization process.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the dynamics of the newly emerging designer fashion market and examine how startup designers reacted to the tension between creativity and business, and how they grew within such dynamics. In-depth interviews were conducted with 22 DFE entrepreneurs and 7 fashion industry experts. The grounded theory was used to analyze data and yield results. Korean new generation of DFEs, attracted by the growing online market opportunities are directly distributing through online channels, targeting the millennial consumers who are pursuing new values at new distribution channels. They show new growth pattern, start with a few key items in the middle and lower price segments, then upscale their design, quality, and price. This study further investigated designers' enterprise orientation shift, which was explored by Mills. Some creativity-oriented designers encountered difficulties in the orientation shift, while designers who demonstrated business characteristics from the startup stage restored the balance by trying to improve both creativity and business. This study discovered a new way for the designer to enter the growth stage. This growth approach is one of the success strategies applicable to designers launching a brand on online platforms in the global market.

  • In the process of designing a building, the process of expressing the designer's ideas through images is essential. However, it is expensive and time consuming for a designer to analyze every individual case image to generate a hypothetical design. This study aims to visualize the basic design draft sketch made by the designer as a real image using the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) based on the continuously accumulated architectural case images. Through this, we proposed a method to build an automated visualization environment using artificial intelligence and to visualize the architectural idea conceived by the designer in the architectural planning stage faster and cheaper than in the past. This study was conducted using approximately 20,000 images. In our study, the GAN algorithm allowed us to represent primary materials and shades within 2 seconds, but lacked accuracy in material and shading representation. We plan to add image data in the future to address this in a follow-up study.

  • This study begins by establishing the theory that paintings serve as a visual documentation of a particular era and record the ideal fashions and customs about dress behavior through the costumes represented in them and examines the close relationship between fashion and art, focusing on the influence of art on fashion, as well as that of fashion on art, for both painters and fashion designers. To attain the goal of the study, the selected objects of study are written references and dresses represented in paintings produced in the 19th century. Painters who were the subject of documentation created or popularized new fashion styles before the concept of 'fashion designer' was introduced in history. In order to capture and represent the ideal beauty of certain period, painters understood the important role of fashion. Their work not only included the designing of costumes or accessories for the sitters, but also the spreading of new fashion styles by showing the sitters wearing them. Study of the mutual relationship between fashion and art grew more vigorous among many intellectuals in a variety of fields beginning in the 19th century. The standing of fashion was elevated and the concept of the 'fashion designer' was introduced and the interest in the themes of a specific style or the background of a trend increased during this time period. Many contemporary fashion designers created dresses inspired by the costumes represented in paintings. The result of this study which focuses on the relationships between fashion, artist, fashion designer and art is that connection between fashion and art is closely and firmly formed. For several hundred years, painters were the creators as well as promulgators of fashion and fashion designers, from the 19th century until today, have obtained their creative inspiration from art.

  • The purpose of this study is to research consumers' perception of the HiSeoul fashion show, which is being used by new designers as a means of promotion, and to propose a strategy for revitalizing new designer brands. This was done in order to secure basic data from fashion consumers, to help guide marketing strategies and promote rising designers. In this research, the consumers' perception of HiSeoul fashion show was verified using text-mining, data refinement and word clouding that was undertaken by TEXTOM3.0. Also, semantic network analysis, CONCOR analysis and visualization of the analysis results were performed using Ucinet 6.0 and NetDraw. "HiSeoul fashion show" was used as the keyword for text-mining and data was collected from March 1, 2018 to April 30, 2019. Using frequency analysis, TF-IDF, and N-gram, it was also shown that consumers are aware of places where shows are held, such as DDP and Igansumun. It was also revealed that consumers recognize rising designer brands, designer's names, the names of guests attending the show and the photo times. This study is meaningful in that it not only confirmed consumers' interest in new designer brands participating in the HiSeoul Fashion Show through big data but also confirmed that it is available as a marketing strategy to boost brand sales. This study suggests using HiSeoul show room to induce consumer sales, or inviting guests that match the brand image to promote them on SNS on the day the show is held for a marketing strategy.
