For a practical simplicity in designing of reinforced concrete structures, the indirect crack controlling method of limiting bar spacing is adopted in KCI structural design provisions. In addition, a direct method for evaluating crack width is also provided in the appendix of the code. But there may be some mismatched results between these two crack controlling methods. In this study, limit values of maximum bar spacing calculated from KCI provisions, KCI appendix, and Frosch's equation are examined as concrete strength, cross-section height, and concrete cover are varied, and the differences are analyzed. From the results, it becomes clear that the differences between maximum bar spacing calculated from KCI code text provisions and those from KCI code appendix provisions are too significant to be neglected. Therefore, rational crack models are suggested in order to get rid of the discrepancy between the direct and indirect control methods.
Currently, deep beams are designed according to ACT 318-99 equations derived from experimental data for slender beams with normal-strength concrete. In addition, there is relatively limited information on high-strength concrete deep beams with shear reinforcement. The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the shear behavior of high-strength concrete deep beams and to grasp the conservatism of ACI shear design provisions. Experimental results on the shear behavior of 22 deep beams under two equal symmetrically placed point loads are reported. compressive strength of concrete cylinder was 800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and main variables were vertical and horizontal shear reinforcement and shear span-to-overall depth ratio (а/h). Test results showed that for high-strength concrete deep beams with shear span-to-overall depth ratio exceeding 0.75, the vertical shear reinforcement more effectively resisted the shear load than horizontal shear reinforcement. In high-strength concrete deep beams, ACI shear design provisions tended to underestimate the effect of strut-tie action and vertical shear reinforcement and overestimate the ones of horizontal shear reinforcement. Based on the experimental results of high-strength concrete deep beams and shear friction theory, this study modified the equations on the shear capacity specified by the ACI provisions.

There are no consistent wind load provisions to design the plant tank in Korea. To suggest the appropriate design wind load, five kinds of specifications including KS B 6283, API 650, ASCE 7-10, EN 1991-1-4 are compared. To evaluate the adequacy of wind load specification in each code first, pressure coefficients were calculated in each code and compared with the results of wind tunnel test. Finite element analyses using linear bifurcation analysis were performed with the parameter of h/d and f/d (h : height of cylinderical part of tank, f : roof heigh, d : diameter of tank). By analyzing the results, appropriate wind load criteria which reflects the real wind actions and easy to apply will be suggested.
ASCE 7-10 defines the torsional irregular structure as the one that has large torsional responses caused by the eccentricity. The code requires that these structures should be designed abide by the torsional provisions. This study evaluates the influence of torsional provisions on the performance of the designed multiple steel moment frames with different eccentricity. In this study, 3D response history analyses are performed. The results show that the moment frame design according to the standard with torsional irregularity provisions showed larger performance as the eccentricity increased and the distribution of plastic hinges similarly to orthopedic structures.

The safety of bridges are critical in our transportation infrastructure. Bridge design and analysis require complex structural analysis procedures to ensure their safety and stability. One common method is to calculate the maximum moment in the girders to determine the appropriate bridge section. Girder distribution factors (GDFs) provide a simpler approach for performing this analysis. A GDF is a ratio between the response of a single girder and the total response of all girders in the bridge. This paper explores the significance of GDFs in bridge analysis and design, including their importance in the evaluation of existing bridges. We utilized Bridge Weigh-in-motion (B-WIM) measurements of five simple supported girder bridge in Indonesia to develop a simple GDF provisions for the Indonesia's bridge design code. The B-WIM measurements enable us to know each girder strain as a response due to vehicle loading as the vehicle passes the bridge. The calculated GDF obtained from the B-WIM measurements were compared with the code-specified GDF and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) bridge design specification. Our study found that the code specified GDF was adequate or conservative compared to the GDF obtained from the B-WIM measurements. The proposed GDF equation correlates well with the AASHTO LRFD bridge design specification. Developing appropriate provisions for GDFs in Indonesian bridge design codes can provides a practical solution for designing girder bridges in Indonesia, ensuring safety while allowing for easier calculations and assessments based on B-WIM measurements.

In current seismic design provisions, a reduced beam section with bolted web (RBS-B) connections is only permitted for intermediate moment frames (IMF). This study evaluated the seismic performance of steel moment resisting frame systems having RBS-B connections designed according to current seismic design provisions. For this purpose, 12 archetypal IMF systems having two different span lengths (9m, 6m) were designed considering two design load levels (SDC $C_{max}$, SDC $C_{min}$). A nonlinear analytical model that can simulate hysteretic behavior of an RBS-B connection was also developed in this study. The procedures specified in ATC 63 are used to conduct a seismic performance evaluation. Moreover, this study conducts the seismic performance evaluation of IMF systems designed according to a new design method proposed by the authors in the previous study. It was observed that several model frames designed according to current seismic design provisions did not provide satisfactory collapse margin ratios (ACMR). This study also showed that the model frames designed according to the new design procedures had a sufficient ACMR.

The use of the current ACI 318 stress block parameters has been reported to provide unconservative estimations of the moment capacities for high-strength concrete columns. Accordingly, several concrete stress block parameters have been recently proposed. This paper discusses various concrete stress block parameters for high-strength concrete and their influences on the code provisions. In order to adopt the proposed stress block parameters to the design code, it is necessary to understand the impact of the change of the stress block parameters on various aspects of the code provisions. For this purpose, the influence of using of different stress block parameters on the location of the neutral axis and the tensile strain in extreme tension steel as well as the axial and moment capacities are investigated. In addition, the influence on the prestressed concrete members is also elucididated.

Provisions for ACI 318-02 and NZS 3101 pertaining to shear design of shear walls evaluated the applicability of high-strength, concrete shear walls subjected to lateral loads. Results of 73 tests of reinforced concrete shear walls were reviewed. Evaluation of test results conducted in Korea, England, America, Japan, and Australia for low-aspect ratio walls indicates that the nominal unit shear strength($\phi$=1.0) calculated using the provisions of ACI and NZS does not represent the observed shear strength well. Based on the limited database considered in this study, a reasonable lower bound to the shear strength of high-strength concrete shear walls is found to be $\sqrt[0.4]{f_{cu}}$ MPa. Similar to that of normal strength concrete walls, the rate of increase of the measured shear strength with $$\rho$_n/ㆍf_y$ is less than 1.0. Therefore, the rate of increase of shear strength attributable to the web reinforcement in shear walls appears to be overestimated by the modified truss analogy.
The application of LCC-techniques is being introduced at the on-going procurement programs of various techniques. LCC-techniques have the common characteristic that all are designed to motivate contractors to design, manufacture and deliver equipment with lower life cycle costs. You may believe that savings may be in the acquisition cost component of life cycle costs. However, primary emphasis is generally on reducing and controlling operating and support costs by transferring more responsibility to the contractor for equipment operating and support cost performance. It has been found that life cycle cost procurement provisions must be individually tailored to each program. In this study, the currently identified LCC procurement techniques including a variety of LCC incentive provisions are introduced. Moreover, verification method, a procedural issue and incentive to application of LCC-techniques are examined.
