  • Data sharing is a major challenge to implement CALS. STEP is the international standard for the product model data exchange among heterogeneous systems and plays a key role in CALS. Advances in computer networks are rapidly changing the product development processes. The network oriented modeling system premises to integrate design activities across the enterprise. To achieve goals of CALS 3-dimensional concurrent modeling that complies international standard is required since integrity and common perception of product data can be assured. This paper presents 3-dimensional concurrent geometric modeling on high speed network using STEP and methodologies.

  • The effect of soil-structure interaction becomes important in the design of civil structures such as long-span bridges, which are constructed in the site composed of soft soil. Many methodologies have been developed to account for the proper consideration of soil-structure interaction effect. However, it is difficult to estimate soil-structure interaction effect accurately becaused of many uncertainties. This paper presents the results of study on soil-structure interaction and dynamic response of a long-span bridge designed in the site composed of soft soil. The effect of the soft soil was evaluated by the use of computer program SASSI and a long-span bridge structure was modeled by finite elements. Dynamic response characteristics of a long-span bridge considering soil-structure interaction wereinvestigated.

  • A simplified statistical methodology is developed in order to both reduce over-conservatism of deterministic methodologies employed for PWR fuel rod internal pressure (RIP) calculation and simplify the complicated calculation procedure of the widely used statistical methodology which employs the response surface method and Monte Carlo simulation. The simplified statistical methodology employs the system moment method with a deterministic approach in determining the maximum variance of RIP The maximum RIP variance is determined with the square sum of each maximum value of a mean RIP value times a RIP sensitivity factor for all input variables considered. This approach makes this simplified statistical methodology much more efficient in the routine reload core design analysis since it eliminates the numerous calculations required for the power history-dependent RIP variance determination. This simplified statistical methodology is shown to be more conservative in generating RIP distribution than the widely used statistical methodology. Comparison of the significances of each input variable to RIP indicates that fission gas release model is the most significant input variable.

  • In this paper conceptual design methodologies of electric safety systems are proposed by micro and macro views. As a pre-study electric accidents of Korea were analyzed microscopically, which could be categorized into 11 types by the occurrence frequency. These types are caused by common problems, which are educations, live works, dealing by the public, and grounding systems. And the korean electric safety system is analyzed macroscopically according to stages of the system comparing with that of developed countries.

  • In many fields, Kansei engineering, often called Human Sensibility Ergonomics, has been applied to the product development for customer's satisfaction. Also, it may use to a lot of products and environments related to human's convenient life. If the measurement and the validation of human sensibility are accomplished subjectively and qualitatively, then a good design is expected. This paper considers an application of one of the Kansei engineering's techniques, extraction and categorization of the sensory words, to the products of mobile telecommunication units. First, 1st sensory words were extracted from Korean dictionary, catalogues, pamphlets, etc. Second, 2nd sensory words were extracted from the questionnaires, elimination of synonym, advise of expert, etc. Third, final sensory words were extracted from questionnaires, etc. Fourth, ask to answer the questionnaires with the extracted words in the five-grade semantic differential. Finally, The factor analysis is used to categorize the extracted sensory words, and shows that the words can be grouped into some categories.

  • Adaptive EWMA(Exponentially Weighted Moving Average)-x control chart using the Kalman gain recursive average is designed. The designed control chart is effective to on-line process monitoring as continuous flow processes. Performance evaluation between the designed control chart and traditional one is implemented. For this, ARL(Average Run Length) is adopted as a criterion. Results show that the designed adaptive EWMA-x control chart has shorter ARL than EWMA-x control chart when process mean is shifted. This model can be extended to process prevention control. The methodology proposed in this research is turned out to show the high performance than that of the given methodologies.

  • Web services can be invoked statically using a WSDL service interface and service implementation documents, or dynamically by retrieving the service type definitions and the service implementation via UDDI. But until now, couldn't do both at the same time. The Model View Controller pattern(MVC) supports both dynamic and static Web services. The MVC paradigm is a way of breaking an application, or even just a piece of an application's interface, into three parts: the model, the view, and the controller. Object-oriented methodologies have been applied to developing internet applications for increase reuse and expandability. I supposed a effective multimedia CMS(Contents Management Systems) using MVC.

  • For the effective and efficient system development, it is provided of complex and diverse disciplines, analysis and design, points of views for decisions making, technical information management, assurance of products, and so on to be integrated and ensured. Systems engineering is conducted through a process and is implemented by tools based on relevant methodologies. Systems engineering environment should be provided to support the systems engineering process, method, and tools used on the project. In this paper, the essential environment in performing works in a organization applying systems engineering on the basis of system life cycle was reviewed. The present states on establishment of the systems engineering in Korea Railroad Research Institute were also examined with some reviews of other cases.

  • In the area of natural language processing, a lot of unification-based grammar formalisms have been issued and are highlighted. The core of the formalisms is an unification of feature stutures. But few formal unification methodologies have been developed. Therfore, implementers of the formalisms could not help adopting an ad hoc design strategy for the unification module. In this paper, we suggest an efficient unification methodology using FUL, a programming language whic supports the unification. For the exeample, we will trace the unification processes in LFG and HPSG, the representative unification-based grammar formalisms, with FUL.

  • This paper presents a six sigma project for improving customer satisfaction of a franchise store. The project follows a disciplined process of five macro phase : define, measure, analyze, improve, and control(DMAIC). Due to the limitation of existing methodologies, numerous difficulties arise during the six sigma application to transactional processes. This paper expected to be helpful to service industry in which is very difficult to measure and implement.
