A design method for a propeller type rim-driven axial-flow turbine for a micro-hydropower system is presented. The turbine consists of pre-stator, impeller and post-stator, where the pre-stator plays a role as a guide vane to provide circumferential velocity to the on-coming flow, and the impeller as a rotational power generator by absorbing angular momentum of the flow. BEM(Blade Element Method), which is based on the turbine Euler equation, is employed to design the pre-stator and impeller blades. NACA 66 thickness form and a=0.8 mean camber line, which is widely accepted as a marine propeller blade section, is used for the pre-stator and turbine blade section. A CFD method, derived from the discretization of the RANS equations, is applied for the analysis of the designed turbine system. The design conditions of the turbine is confirmed by the CFD calculation. Turbine characteristic curve is calculated by the CFD method, in order to provide the performance characteristics at off-design operation conditions. The proposed procedures for the design of a propeller type rim-driven axial-flow turbine are established and confirmed by the CFD analysis.
Flow divider valve, a kind of hydraulic control valve to divide the flow from one input line to two output line uniformly, should be able to keep the constant flow to output lines despite of the change load or supply pressure. Having 5-10% flow diving error in commercial hydraulic products is one of main source of the accumulated error caused hydraulic system problem and demands the development of flow divider valve to control flow more accurately, In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of flow divider valve are investigated by the numerical estimation of the spool motion considered the external supply force. The optimum design of flow divider valve are proposed to reduce the flow diving error. For the dynamic characteristics analysis, the change of sectional area of fixed and variable orifice, and spool are studied when the input signal is accepted to a constant load.
The HANARO, a multi-purpose research reactor of 30 MWth open-tank-in-pool type, has been under normal operation since its initial criticality in February, 1995. Many experiments should be safely performed to activate the utilization of the HANARO. HANARO flow simulation facility is being developed for the endurance test of reactivity control units for extended life time and the verification of structural integrity of those experimental equipments prior to loading in the HANARO. This facility is composed of three major parts; a half-core structure assembly, a flow circulation system and a support system. The flow circulation system is composed of a circulation pump, a core flow piping, a core bypass flow piping and instruments. The system is to be filled with de-mineralized water and the flow should be met the design requirements to simulate a similar flow characteristics in the core channel of the half-core structure assembly to the HANARO. This paper, therefore, presents an analytical analysis to study the flow behavior of the system. Computational flow analysis has been performed for the verification of system pressure variation through the three-dimensional analysis program with the standard $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and for the verification of the structural piping integrity through the finite element method. According to the analysis results, it could be said that the design requirements and the structural piping integrity of the flow circulation system are satisfied.

A general program of meanline design and/or performance prediction for centrifugal/mixed-flow compressors is successfully commercialized using various empirical loss models. 4 types of diffusers, 3 types of exit elements, shrouded/unshrouded impellers and real gas option are included in the program capabilities. Total 16 cases of benchmark test results proved its reliability to be effectively utilized in the development processes.

Design optimization of a transonic compressor rotor (NASA rotor 37) using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis has been carried out in this work. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model was used in the flow analysis. Three design variables were selected to optimize the stacking line of the blade. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, adiabatic efficiency was successfully improved. It is also found that the design process provides reliable design of a turbomachinery blade with reasonable computing time.
A tubular centrifugal fin is designed by using various methods of analysis and design. A preliminary design method based on empirical optimum curves for centrifugal fin is used to determine the geometric parameters for tubular centrifugal fan. And, Quasi-3D streamline curvature duct-flow analysis is used to provide the primary position of streamlines and spanwise distribution of flow angle f3r generation of blade geometry based on S1 surface. Three-dimensional CFD solution then is obtained to optimize the blade design. Constriction of flow path in the region of impeller, backward swept blade, and central cone, which are introduced to improve the design, successfully remove or suppress the vortices downstream of the impeller.
The impeller and vane diffuser for the mixed flow pump(NS550) was designed by using meridional selection program and inverse design method. We decided the meridional shape of the impeller from the meridional design parameter, such as the specific speed and maximum diameter at the impeller exit. The meridional shape of vane diffuser was set from the impeller shape, distribution of cross sectional area and maximum diffuser diameter. The angle of impeller blade and diffuser vane was designed by using inverse design method. The predicted overall performance by using commercial CFD code(ANSYS CFX-11) shown good agreement with design goals.

In order to seek various relationships among many design parameters employed in the design of the axial-flow fans the program which generates acoustic spectrum has been developed and its validity verified. Outputs of the program, with other outputs from a formerly developed performance prediction program, have been used to form a multi-objective function, for which an optimal design process was carried out. The present analysis shows that overall noise level and efficiency has contrasting trends, and the chord length turns out to be the most critical design variable. In the chosen design case of requirements $Q=2000m^2/min$, ${\Delta}P_s=67mmAq$, D=1.4m, the chord length of 0.2059m minimizes the overall noise level, while chord length of 0.1254m maximizes the efficiency. The resulting chord length in the balanced optimization is 0.1809m.

This is an introduction to an art of digital hardware design using polymachine image as a target structure of the product. As in the case of software design of a computer, the design process begins with a sketch of planned system in flow chart description and the flow charts is partitioned into divergent elements. Each of the element machine is derived from those divergent elements. We can build a complete digital system with the preparation of an index, and a polymer of these element machines.
