  • This study was conducted to measure changes in polyphenol components and antioxidant effects of Cirsium Lineare (Thunb.) after fermentation by lactic acid bacteria. First, Cirsium Lineare (Thunb.) extract (CE, unfermented) and Cirsium Lineare (Thunb.) extract fermented with Lactobacillus paracasei (FCE) were prepared. Changes in components resulting from fermentation were confirmed through changes in polyphenol compound content and silymarin derivative pattern, and antioxidant activity was confirmed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, 2,2'azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) analyses. As a result, polyphenol contents of CE and FCE were confirmed as 21.94 ± 1.15 and 67.90 ± 4.48 mg GAE/g, respectively. Both values were increased approximately three times by fermentation, and there was also a change in the silymarin derivative pattern. In the case of DPPH radical RC50 values in particular, CE and FCE were confirmed to inhibit DPPH radicals by 50% at concentrations of 129.44 ± 5.85 and 50.00 ± 3.47 ㎍/mL, respectively, with the FCE value approximately 2.5 times lower than that of CE. In addition, ABTS radical scavenging and FRAP activity were confirmed to share similar trends as DPPH radical scavenging activity. When CE and FCE were compared, FCE showed a better antioxidant effect overall. In conclusion, this study suggested that FCE prepared through lactic acid bacteria fermentation may be utilized as a powerful antioxidant material.

  • The emotion and culture of an age are reflected through several mediums. The special quality and generality are discovered through household utensils used in everyday life specially. This paper was intended as proceeding study for brand development with national empathic relationship. In this article, we were here concerned with symbolism and features for stories of traditional pattern on ancestral common household utensils, and considered about development possibility by brand of tradition pattern. As analysis for symbolism of traditional pattern, re-sorting and classifying pattern, meaning, symbol and stories of pattern based on 'Blessing notion' were set. It was found from the analysis that meaning and symbol of traditional pattern were set up and stories for them were excerpted. This study defines tradition pattern classified based on 'Blessing notion' as '8 Blessing pattern', and investigated development possibility and derivative value of it. We discovered through this study that 'Blessing patterns' function as communicator, have 4 abilities in sympathy with brand paradigm, and have 6 elements of brand identity. Furthermore, 'Blessing Patierns' have some derivative functions; cognitive intension, expression, loyalty, differentiation and symbol. This research will become basis of study for brand development having 'Empathic relationship' and foundation of 'Blessing brand' that is available to be umbrella and super brand. A further direction of this study will be to make 'Blessing brand series' and to create culture of it. We hope Korean brand market goes a step further through our studies

  • In order to improve the consumer acceptance of fragrant yellow hybrids of $Phalaenopsis$ ($Phal.$), crosses between yellow hybrid varieties were made and the obtained hybrids were investigated for horticultural characteristics as well as difference in fragrance patterns. Cross combination of $Phal.$ Brother lawrence and $Phal.$ Brother saragold yielded good seedling population of 500 plants. Segregation was noticed in color density, spot and stripe patterns on yellow color base of petal and also in fragrance. Six lines with multi-branch on flower stalk and strong fragrance flower were finally selected. Volatile fragrance components were compared among $Phal.$ Brother lawrence, $Phal.$ Brother saragold and their hybrids by GC/SAW electronic nose. In the derivative pattern of chromatogram and polar derivative pattern of fragrance, similar dominant peaks appeared on retention time 7-9 s and some hybrid lines had two strong peaks on retention time 20-25 s, respectively. Also in polar frequency pattern of fragrance obtained by $VaporPrint^{TM}$ image analysis among parent flowers and hybrids, an identical strong peak near 8 s of retention time was shown. This single fragrance component is considered a key element of fragrance in $Phal.$ Brother lawrence, $Phal.$ Brother saragold and their hybrids. This peak could be used as a marker for the breeding of fragrance in $Phalaenopsis$.

  • We propose an improvement of particle swarm optimization (PSO) based on the stabilization of particle movement (PM). PSO uses a stochastic variable to avoid an unfortunate state in which every particle quickly settles into a unanimous, unchanging direction, which leads to overshoot around the optimum position, resulting in a slow convergence. This study shows that randomly located particles may converge at a fast speed and lower overshoot by using the proportional-integral-derivative approach, which is a widely used feedback control mechanism. A benchmark consisting of representative training datasets in the domains of function approximations and pattern recognitions is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed PSO. The final outcome confirms the improved performance of the PSO through facilitating the stabilization of PM.

  • In oriental medicine, it is well known that Angelica gigantis tonifies and harmonizes the blood, regulates the menses, and moistens the intestines. This herb has been used for deficient blood pattern, menstural problem, abdominal pain, and traumatic injuries in oriental medicine. A major component of Angelica gigantic consist of a various coumarines, decursin, schooltime, umbelliferone, safrole, 3-butylphalide sistesterol. In this study, we aimed to measure the contents of decursin, one of major coumarine derivative, to determine the standardization of Angelica gigantis.

  • In this work, appearance part of dot gain, and relationship between ton jump and dot gain was studied using the round dot, the square dot, the line dot and the elliptical dot. Each dot pattern were different that was the conners of the round dot touch at 78%, the corners of the square dot and the line dot touch at 100% and the corners of the elliptical dot touch at approximately 40~60%. The result of this work, when the corners join between dots take place tone scale jump and dot gain, and different position of dot gain in each dot patterns.

  • This paper represents a new edge relaxation algorithm that enhances the noisy boundary informations in images. The proposed algorithm employes relaxation process that reduces or eliminates ambiguities of derivative operator response via contextual informations. The contextual informations are the neighborhood patterns of a central edge which are estimated using fuzzy pattern matching technique. The algorithm is developed on crack edges. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is effective even for noisy images or low contrast images.

  • The inhibition mode of S-hydroxy-2-phenylalanylaminomethyl-4-pyron ($IC_{50}=24.6{\;}{\mu}M$) on mushroom tyrosinase was investigated using L-tyrosine as a substrate. This inhibitor is the kojic acid derivative, where the C-7 hydroxyl of kojic acid was replaced by amino group and coupled to the carboxyl of L-phenylalanine. The kinetic data obtained show a competitive inhibition pattern.

  • This paper presents a shearographic technique for measuring in-plane strains. During the measurement, the test object is illuminated alternately with two laser beams, symmetrically with respect to the viewing direction. Employing a phase shift technique, the phase distributions due to object deformation for each beam are obtained separately. The difference of the two phase distributions depicts the derivative of in-plane surface displacements. The technique is equivalent to a system of many strain gages.

  • A method of evaluating Kelvin wave pattern is presented in this paper. The mathematical manipulation of x-derivative of the Green function of the Havelock source by the use of contour integration on the complex plane has resulted in the expression that can be readily incorporated with computer program. The efficiency and accuracy that can be secured by the use of the present mathematical expressions seem to be excellent when suitable numerical quadratures are employed. The wave patterns for particular submergences of the singularity are presented.
