  • In this paper, a landmark based localization system using a Kinect sensor is proposed and evaluated with the implemented system for precise and autonomous navigation of low cost robots. The proposed localization method finds the positions of landmark on the image plane and the depth value using color and depth images. The coordinates transforms are defined using the depth value. Using coordinate transformation, the position in the image plane is transformed to the position in the body frame. The ranges between the landmarks and the Kinect sensor are the norm of the landmark positions in body frame. The Kinect sensor position is computed using the tri-lateral whose inputs are the ranges and the known landmark positions. In addition, a new matching method using the pin hole model is proposed to reduce the mismatch between depth and color images. Furthermore, a height error compensation method using the relationship between the body frame and real world coordinates is proposed to reduce the effect of wrong leveling. The error analysis are also given to find out the effect of focal length, principal point and depth value to the range. The experiments using 2D bar code with the implemented system show that the position with less than 3cm error is obtained in enclosed space($3,500mm{\times}3,000mm{\times}2,500mm$).

  • Time-of-flight(ToF) cameras deliver intensity data as well as range information of the objects of the scene. However, systematic problems during the acquisition lead to distorted values in both distance and amplitude. In this paper we propose a method to acquire reliable distance information over the entire scene correcting each information based on the other data. The amplitude image is enhanced based on the depth values and this leads depth correction especially for far pixels.

  • Method for 3D reconstruction from image points and geometric clues can be roughly classified as "model-based" and "constraint-based". We present a new method to reconstruct from one image a scene using depth-point. The our method is benchmarked synthetic data and its effectiveness is shown on photograph data.

  • In this paper we implemented a field-sequential stereoscopic endoscope system that can generate stereoscopic images with different perspective depth using LCD stutter. Re stereoscopic image is generated from stereoscopic adapter that has LCD shutter. We have compared the stereoscopic depth of a field-sequential stereoscopic endoscope system with that of the conventional endoscope system. And the implemented system is verified by evaluation the field-sequential stereoscopic image on a Monitor. This system will be use to medical instruments in time.

  • Photon-counting sensing is a widely used technique for low-light-level imaging applications. This paper proposes a distance information extraction method with photon-counting passive sensing under low-lightlevel conditions. The photo-counting passive sensing combined with integral imaging generates a photon-limited elemental image array. Maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) is used to reconstruct the photon-limited image at certain depth levels. The distance information is extracted at the depth level that minimizes the sum of the standard deviation of the corresponding photo-events in the elemental image array. Experimental and simulation results confirm that the proposed method can extract the distance information of the object under low-light-level conditions.

  • This paper proposes a method to speed up the document image binarization using a water flow model. The proposed method extracts the region of interest (ROI) around characters from a document image and restricts pouring water onto a 3-dimensional terrain surface of an image only within the ROI. The amount of water to be filled into a local valley is determined automatically depending on its depth and slope. Then, the proposed method accumulates weighted water not only on the locally lowest position but also on its neighbors. Finally, the depth of each pond is adaptively thresholded for robust character segmentation. Experimental results on real document images shows that the proposed method has attained good binarization performance as well as remarkably reduced processing time compared with that of the existing method based on a water flow model.

  • With significant advancements in the field of artificial intelligence, many novel algorithms and technologies have emerged. Currently, AI painting can generate high-quality images based on textual descriptions. However, it is often challenging to control details when generating images, even with complex textual inputs. Therefore, there is a need to implement additional control mechanisms beyond textual descriptions. Based on ControlNet, this passage describes a combined utilization of various local controls (such as edge maps and depth maps) and global control within a single model. It provides a comprehensive exposition of the fundamental concepts of ControlNet, elucidating its theoretical foundation and relevant technological features. Furthermore, combining methods and applications, understanding the technical characteristics involves analyzing distinct advantages and image differences. This further explores insights into the development of image generation patterns.

  • Generally, stereo pair images are necessary for 3D viewing. In the absence of quality stereo-pair images, it is possible to synthesize a stereo-mate suitable for 3D viewing with a single image and a depth-map. In remote sensing, DEM is usually used as a depth-map. In this paper, LiDAR data was used instead of DEM to make a stereo pair from a single aerial photo. Each LiDAR point was assigned a brightness value from the original single image by registration of the image and LiDAR data. And then, imaginary exposure station and image plane were assumed. Finally, LiDAR points with already-assigned brightness values were back-projected to the imaginary plane for synthesis of a stereo-mate. The imaginary exposure station and image plane were determined to have only a horizontal shift from the original image's exposure station and plane. As a result, the stereo-mate synthesized in this paper fulfilled epipolar geometry and yielded easily-perceivable 3D viewing effect together with the original image. The 3D viewing effect was tested with anaglyph at the end.

  • KINECT is a gesture recognition camera produced by Microsoft Corp. KINECT SDK are widely available and many applications are actively being developed. Especially, KIET (Kinect Image Extraction Technique) has been used mainly for extracting moving objects from the input image. However, KIET has difficulty in extracting the human head due to the absorption of light. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new method for improving the KIET performance by using both color-image and depth image. Through experimental results, it is shown that the proposed method performs better than the conventional KIET algorithm.
