  • As the growth of warehouse stores has been accelerated, the importance of logistics for warehouse stores has been also increasing. In this respect, this study analyzed the transportation efficiency after the integrated operation of depots by C Company using GIS. According to the results of analysis of changes in container shipment cargo volumes, in terms of delivery distances, a total of 1,028,699 km of delivery car driving was shown to be necessary when one depot was operated, while a total of 2,866,604km of car driving was shown to be necessary so that 1,028,699km of car driving was reduced per year. In terms of delivery time too, 62 hours of time was saved per day and a total of 36% reduction in time could be expected. This study presented the effects of depot integration and delivery changes to improve operation processes and reduce delivery time and distances using GIS OD Matrix. The results of this study can be used as an important indicator for judgment that can affect the delivery process of other warehouse discount stores.

  • Large scaled railway freight transportation facilities in harbors are located in Busan port and Gwangyang port. The port rail depot plays an important role as the departure and destination function of railway logistics. However, presently, it is not relatively vitalized because it is not reflect the railway freight transportation's characteristics such as scale of railway tracks or yards area. In addition, even if port rail depot is vitalized, processing capacity is already saturated. Therefore, it is difficult to increase rail transport quantity. To activate railway container transportation business, it is very necessary to recalculate the facility size of port rail depots. Focused on the Busan new port rail depot, this paper analyzes the problems of port rail depot facility that has currently opened and finds some alternatives to resolve them.

  • Zinc (Zn) is a micromineral and functions as a cofactor of many enzymes and its deficiency induces retardation of growth and dysfunction of the immune system in animals. This study was conducted to determine lipogenic activity of Zn in bovine intramuscular adipocytes. Preadipocytes were isolated from intramuscular fat depots of 26 month old Korean (Hanwoo) steers and cultured in media containing Zn. At confluence, the cells were treated with insulin, dexamethasone, and 1-methyl-3-isobutyl-xanthine to induce differentiation (accumulation of lipid droplets in cells). The sources of Zn were zinc chloride (${ZnCl}_2$) and zinc sulfate (${ZnSO}_4$), and the final concentrations of both Zn sources were 0, 5, 25, 50 and 100 ${\mu}$M. Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH) activity, an index of adipocyte differentiation, was increased as the concentration of Zn in media increased showing the highest activity (25.74 ng/min/mg protein) at 25 ${\mu}$M of ${ZnSO}_4$. Supplementation of Zn during differentiation of bovine intramuscular adipocytes tended to decrease the production of nitric oxide (NO). Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma 2(PPAR$\gamma$2) gene expression was increased 10 days after differentiation induction. The current results indicate that Zn has a strong lipogenic activity in cultured bovine intramuscular adipocytes with remarkable suppression of NO production.

  • The influence of age on the relative growth patterns of subcutaneous, intermuscular, intramuscular, perirenal, channel and hump fat in relation to the total fat weight in carcass sides of 18 Najdi male camels averaging 8, 16 and 26 months of age has been investigated. The total fat weight in a carcass side increased (p<.01) from 17.3% to 27.1% as the camel age increased from 8 to 26 months. However, at all ages studied, intermuscular fat weight was the largest fat depot, followed, in order, by subcutaneous and intramuscular fat. The change in weight of the intramuscular, intermuscular and subcutaneous fat between 8 and 26 months of age was greater, reaching 6.7, 4.3 and 4 times respectively, than the hump, channel and perirenal fat weight which increased by 3.6, 2.5 and 2.3 times, respectively. The allometric growth coefficient (${\beta}$) for intramuscular fat in relation to the total carcass fat weight was the highest, followed, in order, by intermuscular, subcutaneous, hump, channel and perirenal fat.

  • In Seoul, several railway depots are located at the places where a public can easily access. Since a depot occupy a large amount of land itself, it is natural to use those sites for a public building construction such as an apartment complex or a transportation terminal, as an example. Most of the buildings on a depot, however, are exposed to vibration problems, because foundations are excited from the dynamic loading whenever heavy trains pass on the track. Severe vibration may cause a damage to building structures and a troublesome to a community. In this paper, some vibration practices have been examined in order to resolve the vibration problems. First, a critical speed of a train in a railway depot is evaluated. Then, a structural effect on the transmission of a vibration energy has been investigated. Finally, practical approaches to reduce the vibration level have been proposed. In this first half part of the paper, the focus has been on the critical speed and a structural transmission phenomena.

  • Recently, An introduction of communication based train control system both into greenfield and brownfield of urban transit network has been actively reviewed. However, since a number of line sections and rolling stock depots tends to be constructed based on track circuit for various reasons, necessity of inter-operation between two distinct train control system (CBTC, ATC) increases. Therefore, we propose a design of on-board signalling device that allows inter-operation of CBTC and ATC lines and a method to secure safe connection between these two lines without derailing point machine.

  • The system under study is a single item, multi-echelon distribution system with a capacitated production facility. All the nodes at the downstream ends are demand-sites, i.e., ordered items are delivered to the customers from the node. Also any transshipment depots in the midstream can be demand-sites as well. For a given planning period, at each of demand-site, demand is forecasted and known. Our objective is to minimize the average system cost per period which is the sum of holding and backorder costs in the entire network. Due to the capacity restrictions, it is difficult to establish efficient distribution planning. To overcome such a difficulty and obtain a reasonable and better solution, we convert this problem into a single machine earliness and weighted tardiness scheduling. We propose a simple but cost-effective heuristic for this problem. The experimental results showed that the proposed heuristic obtained much better solutions compared with another approach.

  • An experiment was conducted to examine the effect of different feeding levels of concentrate (85, 100 and 115%) and age (15, 18 and 24 month) on fatty acid synthetase (FAS) activities in the 4 locations of adipose tissues (intermuscular, ITER; intramuscular, ITRA; kidney, KIDN and subcutaneous, SUBC) of 36 Korean native cattle (Hanwoo) steers. Steers of 100% feeding group were fed the amount of concentrate to meet the daily nutrient requirements, and the steers of second and third groups were fed concentrates at the levels of 85% and 115% of that of control group, respectively, up to 18 month of age. Thereafter, the steers were fed ad libitum up to 24 month of age. Feeding level of concentrates tended to affect the FAS activity of various adipose tissues in Hanwoo steers of each age. The FAS activity of ITER adipose tissue had the decreasing trend as the age of steers advanced while those of ITRA and SUBC adipose tissues had the slightly increasing tendency with age. The FAS activity based on the pooled data increased with the feeding level of concentrates (115%) in which the activities from all 4 adipose depots were higher than those with the lowest (85%) feeding level. Similar trend was observed from the pooled data of feeding level of concentrates by age of steers in which the FAS activities for all 3 ages were increased with feeding levels of concentrates. But the response in the FAS activity to the feeding level varied with age.

  • In order to manage essential parts that are required for the repairable parts services performed at the military maintenance depots, the United States Air Force developed the Repairability Forecasting Model (RFM). In the RFM, if the requirements of the parts are assumed to follow the normal probability distribution after applying means from the past data to the replacement rate and lead times, the chance of the AWP (Awaiting Parts) occurring is 50%. In this study, to counter the uncertainties of requirements and lead times from the RFM, the safety level concept is considered. To obtain the safety level for requirements, the binomial probability distribution is applied, while the safety level for lead time is obtained by applying the normal probability distribution. After adding this concept, the improved RFM is renamed as the ARFM (Advanced RFM), and by conducting the numerical stimulation, the effectiveness of the ARFM, minimizing the occurrence of the AWP, is shown by increasing the efficiency of the maintenance process and the operating rate of the weapon system.
