The objective of this study is to measure the fear and anxiety levels of some middle school students in Gyeonggi Province, to analyze the relevant factors, to seek how to alleviate such fear and anxiety and thus enable to make a comfortable and efficient oral management. Six hundred twenty two middle school students in Gyeonggi Province participated in the survey, which used the data of 614 respondents, i.e. 337 males and 277 females. A frequency analysis was conducted to determine the distribution of answers for each question, a crosstabulation analysis was performed to verify the gender differences in answer and an Mann-whitney U test was used to compare fear scores. According to the results patients feared even in unexpected circumstances. In addition, they feared when receiving direct treatment. In terms of gender, female students showed higher levels of fear than male ones (p<0.05).
Objectives : This study was to investigate the impact of dietary habits and obesity on level of oral health in the elementary school children and to characterize the relationship among dietary habits, obesity and level of oral health by DMFT index and perceived oral health. Methods : Participants were 314 total students from one elementary school who lived Yeosan. Self-administered questionnaires were given to the subjects from March 25 through May 12, 2008, to identify their the degree of dietary habits, perceived oral health. A trained investigator made an oral examination of them in natural light using a mirror and explorer to determine their DMFT index. We classified the subjects into Data were analyzed with T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test, pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression using the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results : Regarding dietary habit, the subjects achieved a mean of 10.52${\pm}$3.80 out of a maximum 20 points. The DMFT index in the subject was 0.60${\pm}$2.03. The group of obesity by gender were 19.2% and 22.5%. Moreover, those who were children and had more severe level of obesity felt that their perceived oral health and DMFT index were higher. There was a significant assocciation of oral health among elementary school children with obesity. Conclusion : These results suggest that oral health behavioral and attitude, dietary habits and obesity influenced the level of oral health. Thus further research targeting to positive attitude toward effective management of childhood obesity combined with significant dietary habits, may lead to promotion of oral health.
Objective: To assess the prevalence of malocclusion and its relationship with dental caries among school children in southern India. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 1,800 students aged 11 - 15 years whose Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) and dentition status were recorded and analyzed. The chi-square test, ANOVA, and Spearman's correlation tests were carried out. Results: The mean DAI score ${\pm}$ the standard deviation was $18.61{\pm}6.1$. Approximately 85% of the students (83.0% males, 86.8% females) had DAI scores of < 26 and were classified as not requiring orthodontic treatment. One tenth of the sample had mean DAI scores between 26 - 30 (indicating definite malocclusion and elective treatment), while about 3% had mean scores between 31 - 35 (indicating severe malocclusion and treatment desirability). Only 29 children (1.6%; 16 boys, 13 girls) had a DAI score of > 35, which suggested very severe or handicapping malocclusion requiring mandatory treatment. The mean decayed, missing, filled teeth (DMFT) was $2.28{\pm}1.47$. A DMFT of > 0 was observed in 91.8% of the study subjects. Children with a DAI score of > 35 were found to have significantly (p < 0.001) higher caries experience as compared to other children. Moreover, the DAI scores showed a significant correlation with the mean DMFT scores (r = 0.368, p < 0.05). Conclusions: A positive correlation was found between the severity of malocclusion and dental caries.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of family function and oral health concern on the oral health impact profile (OHIP) in the adolescents. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 368 middle school students in Gyeongnam from June 9 to 20, 2014. Except incomplete answers, 337 data were analyzed by frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 20.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of eight questions of the general characteristics of the subjects, seventeen questions of family function, eleven questions of oral health concern, fourteen questions of oral health impact profile (OHIP)-14. Results: OHIP-14 was higher and it showed better oral health-related quality of life in lower grade, liberal parents' rearing attitude, and satisfaction with parent-child relationship. The family function and oral concern were significantly correlated with the OHIP-14. The influencing factors on the oral health-related quality of life are the family function of communication, oral concern of self oral care and food, and general characteristics. Conclusions: The oral health-related quality of life in the adolescents was affected by family function and oral health concern. It is very important and necessary to develop and apply the oral health promotion program including the family function in the adolescents.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze level of dental health knowledge and behavior in elementary student, school health educators should encourage students to have continuous dental care habits for lifelong dental health with practical education. Methods: The subjects in this study were 490 students of four-year, fifth-year and sixth-year from elementary school in Daegu areas. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 26, June to 27, June 2006. Collected data were analyzed into frequency and Chi-square test using Spss 10.0 program. Result: Level of dental health knowledge were high as 57.8% in high groups, dental health behavior were high as twice a day in toothbrushing, over three times in visiting frequency of dental clinic for one years and once time of a day in intake frequency of cariogenic food. dental health knowledge by an academic years and sex were significant difference all of four-year, fifth-year and sixth-year. dental health behavior by an academic years and sex were significant difference in visiting frequency of dental clinic for one years and in intake frequency of cariogenic food by an academic years, male and female were significant difference in toothbrushing of a day. relationships of dental health knowledge and behavior were significant difference in intake frequency of cariogenic food.

Purpose: This research targeted the high school students to analysis the behavior leading to oral health following the level of knowledge of and attitude towards oral health. Going steps further, this research examines the effect of the education on the oral cavity's health on the behavior leading to oral health to provide the need to conduct education on the oral cavity's health. Methods: High school students in the 1st to the 3rd grades in two high schools in Gyeongsangnamdo were targeted to conduct survey on 444 students. Collected data was subjected to the SPSS statistical program to obtain the frequency, percentage and average. Moreover, standard deviation, t-verification, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and logistics regression analysis were conducted. Results: First, average of the high school students' knowledge of and attitude towards oral cavity's health was higher when the education on the oral cavity's health was received compared to when education on the oral cavity's health was not received. Second, knowledge of and attitude towards oral cavity's health were high when there was the willingness to participate in the education on the oral health. In case education on the oral cavity's health was received, average of the knowledge of oral cavity's health was high, which manifested statistically significant difference. Average of the knowledge of oral cavity's health was high as well in case there is a perception that the need for the education on oral cavity exists. Third, the probability of having had their teeth scaled was higher when the total score for the knowledge of oral cavity's health was higher. The probability of having had their teeth scaled was higher when the score on the attitude for preventing periodontal disease was higher. Conculsion: These results demonstrate that the existence of high school students' education on the oral cavity's health, and knowledge of and attitude towards oral cavity's health exert significant influence on the behavior leading to oral cavity's health.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of xylitol and sorbitol mouth rinse on the salivary caries activity levels. Methods: The study subjects were 38 female college students in Gyeongju, Korea. The subjects visited the institution once a week for 4 weeks and the saliva samples were measured for the amount of salivary caries activity levels. The saliva was collected 5 times and incubated in Mitis Salivarius Agar for 48 hours(VS-1203P3L, Vision, Korea) and measured. Results: The Streptococcus mutans CFU decreased by statistically significant amounts as compared to before the experiment within the xylitol group and the sorbitol group(p<0.01). After three weeks of mouth rinse application, Streptococcus mutans CFU of the xylitol group and the sorbitol group showed statistically significant differences(p<0.05). The salivary flow rates within the xylitol group and sorbitol group increased by statistically significant amounts(p<0.01) than before the test. The change in the salivary buffering capacity decreased by a statistically significant amount as compared to before experiment within the xylitol group(p<0.01). Conclusions: The salivary caries activity levels decreased after using xylitol and sorbitol mouth rinse in CFU and the flow rate. The buffering activity levels increased within the xylitol group. Further follow-up studies would be necessary to identify the various effects of xylitol.
The current research examines the aching part and the muscle activity that happens during scaling practice subject to 20 dental hygienic students and therefore propose a basic data according to the working attitude of the Dental Hygienist. During the scaling we used the free EMG (BTS Inc., Milan, Italy) to measure the muscle activity, and in order to check the musculoskeletal pain area we used the Nordic-style questionnaire, and the measured research results are as following: At the moment of scaling according to posture the occurrence of the pain showed no difference among the groups elbow, back, leg, knee, ankle/foot but in the neck, shoulder, wrist/hand, waist showed a high difference in the degree of pain according to posture. Results from measuring the muscular activity according to posture, in the group that had a good posture, the trapezius and brachial muscles showed a change according to time, and in the group that had a bad posture a high muscle activity was shown in larynx, trapezius and brachial muscles. In the muscle activity, the changing aspect between the two parts, the group that fulfilled a scaling in a good posture showed a low muscle activity, but in the group that fulfilled the scaling in a bad posture the muscle activity increased excessively. Therefore we examined that when fulfilling a scaling maintaining a bad posture can help in using more effectively the activity of the muscle, in the future I think there is a need to raise the office efficiency by subjecting to dental hyginiest that are in the clinics and performing experiments.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between self-control behavior, social comparison attitude, self-efficacy and health promotion activities of college students who had health related majors (nursing, dental hygiene, health administration). Methods: The subjects consisted of 413 college students. Data were collected by self reported questionnaires that were designed to evaluate self-control behavior, social attitudes, self-efficacy and health promotion lifestyle (HPLP). Data were analyzed using the SPSS/PC win 14.0 program. Results: Upward & parallel comparison, self-efficacy and parents income were positively correlated with health promotion activities by college students. The most significant predictors of health promotion activities for college students were self-efficacy and self-control behavior. Conclusion: Health promotion activities for college students are influenced by self-efficacy, self-control behavior, and upward comparison. In conclusion, to increase the health promotion activities of college students, methods designed to increase self-efficacy should be prepared while considering the self-control behavior and comparative propensity towards others.
The purpose of this study is to identify the convergence relationship regarding the effects of oral health behaviors on oral health related quality of life after conducting a self-reported survey by the convenience sampling method for 135 Vietnamese international students at J University located in JeonBuk region for 118 people excluding 17 who didn't respond well. In terms of oral health related quality of life according to oral health behavior there was a statistically significant difference in whether or not dental calculus removed over the past year(p<0.05), as a result of analyzing the effect of oral health behaviors on oral health related quality of life over the past year whether or not dental calculus removed was no(p<0.05), in the toothbrushing method it was found that the upper and lower(p<0.05) had a significant effect on oral health related quality of life. As a result it was found that some oral health behaviors affect the oral health related quality of life and it is thought that it can be used as basic data for improving the oral health of foreign students and the oral health related quality of life.
