And provide basic data by integrating for weight management programs that target overweight people can improve oral health. Methods: Self-evaluation questionnaires were surveyed for 315 students who agreed to participate in the survey, using questionnaires used in the preceding study were modified and complemented. We analyzed the data with frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, chi-square test와 ANOVA, Spearman correlation coefficient by using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The significance level for significance was set at 0.05. Results: People who smoke and alcohol drink have a lower score in their oral health behavior and oral health knowledge than those who do not. There was a significant difference between the BMI group, in the oral health behavior and oral health knowledge scores. BMI and smoking (r=0.230, p<0.001), alcohol drinking (r=0.121, p<0.05) were significant positive correlation. BMI and sleep time (r=-0.127, p<0.05), oral health behaviors (r=-0.133, p<0.001) were significant negative correlation. oral health behaviors and oral health knowledge (r=0.344, p<0.001) were significant positive correlation. Conclusion: Schools and communities will need to be educated about smoking and drinking, while at the same time developing programs that can improve oral health by integrating weight management programs.

  • This study was conducted to provide basic information snack intake frequency, eating patterns and current dental caries in high school students. A total of 626 students (333 males, 293 females) in Gimhae city participated in this study. The survey conducted by using a self-administered questionnaire in January, 2008. Dental caries-related information was obtained during the students' physical examination at the designated clinical hospital in 2007. The results were as follows. Sixty three point nine percent of the students were shown to have dental caries, which includes a sealant. The average number of dental caries was 3.1, which was greater in female than in male students (p < 0.001). Eighty six percent of the students were shown to maintain correct toothbrushing habits to prevent dental caries. Twenty percent of the participants brushed there teeth ‘instantly’ a meal or snack, and 27.3% of the participants brushed there teeth, gum and tongue, and 58.9% of the participants received toothbrushing education. In snack intake frequency, participants with no dental caries had preference to white milk whereas those with dental caries had preference to snacks such as chewing gums and carbonated beverages. Female students were shown to have more dental caries maybe because of their higher snack intake frequency in chocolate, cookies and chips, yoghurt and ice-cream. Dental caries did not affect eating behaviors. This study suggests that more education for correct toothbrushing and cariogenic and detergent foods are needed for better dental hygiene.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the cognition-perception factors and oral health promotion behavior of dental hygiene and non-dental hygiene students in an effort to find out factors affecting their oral health promotion behavior. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. In regard to cognition-perception factors of oral health, the dental hygiene students were ahead of the others in self-efficacy, control of oral health and benefits of oral health behavior. The latter felt there were more barriers to their oral health behavior than the former. 2. As to the practice of oral health promotion behavior, that behavior was more prevailing among the dental hygiene students than the others. Both groups restrained themselves from liquor and cigarettes. 3. Concerning the correlation between oral health promotion behavior and related variables, self-efficacy and control of oral health had a significant correlation to oral health promotion behavior. Better self-efficacy and better control of oral health led to better oral health promotion behavior and better practice of its subfactors 1, 2 and 3. 4. As a result of checking the variables affecting oral health promotion behavior and the subfactors of the variables, self-efficacy had the largest impact on factor 1, factor 2, factor 3 and oral health promotion behavior, and factor 2 was under the greatest influence of control of oral health. Based on above-mentioned findings, self-efficacy was identified as the cognition-perception factor that had the largest impact on oral health behavior. Therefore how to boost self-efficacy should be considered when oral health promotion programs are developed, and research efforts should be channeled into finding out in which way self-efficacy could be bolstered in association with each kind of oral health promotion behavior.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study to provide preliminary data to effective halitosis control. Methods : A survey was carried out the self-perception of causative factors of halitosis in 98 female college students in Chungnam province. In addition, the levels of oral gas and breath gas were measured by use of the B&B checker, and an analysis was made of the correlation between halitosis and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Results : 1. Subjective halitosis awareness degree different degree of dryness, 'None', 'some', 'little' people who feel as the 'little fly' (68%), 78.3%, 70% was higher (p<0.05), halitosis interest 'very worried', 'worry', 'normal' person with a' not at all 'to 58.3% higher (p<0.01). 2. In regard to OCD severity, 49.0%, 34.7% and 16.3% were found to be mild, moderate and severe respectively. Halitosis tended to be severe in proportion to OCD severity, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). 3. Oral gas had a positively correlation with breath gas (r=0.329, p<0.01), but had a negative one with OCD severity (r=0.204, p<0.05). Conclusions : Symptoms of oral dryness and halitosis interest were associated with self-perception of halitosis. The levels of oral gas and breath gas were in inverse proportion to OCD severity. Hereat, it needs to analyze psychogenic factors properly as regards the diagnosis or treatment of halitosis.

  • In this study, a survey was conducted on Chinese students in a university in Busan, in order to investigate the relationship between oral health-related self-efficacy and quality of life according to smoking experience of Chinese students living in South Korea. The results of analyzing collected data with the SPSS 24.0 program showed that students without smoking experience had higher scores in brushing, oral health-related self-efficacy and oral health-related quality of life than those with smoking experience. Brushing self-efficacy was positively correlated with oral health-related self-efficacy, and oral health-related self-efficacy was positively correlated with oral health quality of life, which were all statistically significant. It was found that the presence or absence of smoking experience was associated with oral health promotion and improvement of quality of life in foreign students. Thus, the results of this study are expected to be used as basic data by conveying the necessity of developing oral health promotion programs for healthy living of foreign students.
