This study investigates the stressors of dental hygienists and student hygienists during the bedside training by the medical center type. The survey is based on some dental hygienists who are working for dental college hospitals, general hospitals, dental hospitals and dental clinics in Seoul and Gyeonggi area which the Clinical Practice of dental hygienics students is under way in. Included are the students who are studying dental hygienics at Kyungbok University and have taken the bedside training in dental college hospitals, general hospitals, dental hospitals and dental clinics. A statistical analysis shows the following results using SPSS program. By medical center type, dental hygienists described the clinical practice of students as relatively satisfying. It also found that there is a positive correlation between stress zones, and they feel most stressed in the "Role and Activity" zone. Student hygienists felt relatively satisfied with the bedside training, and there is a positive correlation between stress zones except "Practice". It found students, who have taken the bedside training in all types of medical centers except dental clinics, felt most stressed in "Environment". It also found that students who have taken the bedside training in dental clinics felt most stressed in "Role and Activity". In conclusion, most of the dental hygienists are satisfied with students' clinical practice by pattern of hospital. Positive correlation was shown between stress factors. Behavior and attitude and ideal and value are high in stress in college dental hospitals, role and activity and treatment fields are high in stress in dental hospital, and interpersonal relationships are high in stress in dental clinics.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and learning attitude according to smoking experience in the middle school students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 608 middle school students in Gyeongnam from July 1 to 23, 2013. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, smoking behavior, self-efficacy, and learning attitude. The questionnaire was adapted and modified from Kang, Park, and Koh. The self-efficacy was divided into general efficacy and social efficacy. The learning attitude was divided into attention concentration, learning method, and self learning. Data were analyzed using SPSS Win 21.0 program. Results: The nonsmoking students tended to have higher general efficacy and social efficacy than the smokers (p<0.01). The nonsmokers had more attention concentration in learning attitude than the smokers (p<0.001). The learning method (p<0.001) and self learning (p<0.001) showed the same results between the two groups. The smoking experience had the negative correlation with general efficacy (r=-0.164) and social efficacy(r=-0.154). The general efficacy is positively related to social efficacy (r=0.568). The smoking experience had the negative correlation to attention concentration (r=-0.235), learning method (r=-0.211) and self learning (r=-0.148). The attention concentration was positive relation with learning method (r=0.690) and self learning(r=0.662. The learning method had positive relation to self learning (r=0.764). Conclusions: The smoking students tended to have lower self-efficacy and learning attitude, so it is necessary to implement the smoking prevention program in the middle school students.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the smoking experience of some middle school students and their oral health behavior in an effort to provide information on how to teach students to abstain from smoking and improve their oral health behavior to maintain or promote their oral health. The subjects in this study were the students who were in their first, second and third years in four different middle schools located in the city of Iksan, North Jeolla Province. A survey was conducted from June 14 to July 12, 2011, and the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The students who smoked accounted for 10.6 percent. Out of them, the rates of the boys and the girls respectively stood at 16.0 and 5.4 percent (p<0.001). 2. As for the life satisfaction of the smoker students, 9.5 percent were satisfied, and 15.0 percent were unsatisfied (p<0.05). 3. Concerning a plan for quitting smoking, 71.4 percent of the boys and 45.5 percent of the girls planned to give up smoking (p<0.01). 4. Regarding the links between smoking experience and oral health behavior, the students who had smoking experience got 2.19 in the use of oral hygiene supplies, and the others who hadn't got 1.97 (p<0.01). 5. As to the connections between nicotine dependence and oral health behavior, the students who replied they depended on nicotine got 2.68 in education and concern, and those who answered they never did got 3.21 (p<0.05).
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of community oral hygiene program on oral hygiene practice behavior in children. Methods: Oral hygiene promotion program was performed in 23 community child centers in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggido. The study analyzed the effect of community oral hygiene promotion programs on the oral hygiene practice behavior in children from September to December, 2014. The trained dental hygienists in 23 public health centers and dental hygiene students participated in the oral hygiene promotion program for oral health examination and education for the children. The contents of the program was standardized and instructed to the team members. The individual improvement in children oral hygiene practice was assessed using PHP(patient hygiene performance) index score. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: After the program, children who stopped eating confectioneries and those eating once a day increased to 32.12% and 14.24%, respectively. Those eating more than four times a day were still high(32.44%), but it was a lower rate than before the program (p<0.001). The rate of toothbrushing of more than 2 to 3 times a day was 82.75% and it was higher than before the education (p<0.001). The knowledge level of children increased from 18.83% to 66.30%. The oral hygiene practice performance in children was highly improved. Conclusions: The four months duration of oral hygiene program remarkably improved the oral hygiene practice in the children. So the community health centers and welfare centers must cooperate and improve the children oral health promotion by developing the oral health promotion program.

Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the snack intake and brushing behavior according to the oral health education experience in some schools in Busan, and to investigate whether the oral health education experience affects the snack intake and brushing behavior. Methods: This study surveyed the entire fourth grade of elementary school in two districts by participating in university-linked oral health education activities run under the jurisdiction of the education office business to examine changes in the behavior of elementary school students in their snack intake and toothbrush. The survey was conducted on oral health education in elementary schools, prior oral health education experience before and after the activity, whether or not the brushing classroom was operated, and contents related to eating snacks and brushing behaviors. Result: Among the general characteristics of some schools in Busan, 69.9% of students have experience in oral health education and 30.1% of people have no experience in oral health education. 20.0%, 16.3% were 'normal' and 63.7% were 'helpful'. The brushing behavior according to the oral health education was 44.9% in the number of brushings, 44.9% in the number of brushings, 45.7% in 2-3 minutes in the time of brushing, 41.2% in the brushing method by sweeping the brush up and down. In the daily brushing period, 'after breakfast' was the highest at 72.3%, and the parent's brushing instruction was 'to lead' at 65.1%. The amount of sugar in subjective snacks was the highest with 60.6% of sugar content, and the parents had the highest level of 52.2% for parents' snack intake. This result was more significant than the students without oral health education experience. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the number and time of brushing, the method and timing of brushing according to the experience of oral health education. Students who had oral health education experience higher than those who did not have oral health education, but had a lower tendency to brush after lunch at school and before going to bed. For better oral health, the effect of oral health education will be better if the school has more systematic toothbrushing at lunch time and parental guidance at home.
Objectives: The purpose of study is to investigate periodontal disease-related recognition and oral health-related behavior in orthodontic patients with fixed appliance. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 286 orthodontic patients with fixed appliance in Gwangju, Jeonnam from September 1 to September 27, 2016. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics (3 items), orthodontic related characteristics (3 items), knowledge of periodontal disease (3 items), and oral health-related behavior (4 items). The data were analyzed by frequency analysis, percentage and chi-square analysis using SPSS 21.0 program. Results: 62.8% had experiences of dental treatment and 67.5% had intention of involvement on incremental care program in orthodontic treatment periods. Accuracy rate of cause about periodontal disease was high in female and case of acquiring information experiences on periodontal disease (p<0.05). 67.2% performed correct toothbrushing for the management of periodontal disease in the experiences of acquiring information on periodontal disease in orthodontic treatment periods (p<0.05). The proportions of using interdental toothbrush and mouth rinsing solutions were high among those over 20 years old and students in the subjects (p<0.05). Conclusions:The accuracy rate were high in the answers about cause and management of periodontal disease in case of acquiring information experiences on periodontal disease in orthodontic treatment periods. Therefore, there is a need to further development and implementation of dental hygiene intervention program for periodontal disease care with fixed orthodontic appliances in that regard.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the correlation between stress and smartphone addiction in some university students. Methods: The subjects were 220 health major students in D area. The study was conducted for 2 weeks, in June, 2016. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, awareness toward stress, stress-coping pattern, and smartphone addiction. Data was analyzed through SPSS 18.0 program. Results: In the analysis of stress levels according to general characteristics, female group showed higher experience compared to male group (high group 46.10, subgroup 44.38) (p<0.05). Male group and higher stress group showed higher experience in problem solving, social support, and emotional stress coping (p>0.05). Stress and stress coping (r=0.322), stress and smartphone addiction (r=0.299) showed positive correlation. The significant factors of smartphone addiction were average daily using time (${\beta}=0.477$, p<0.001), study stress (${\beta}=0.177$, p<0.05), social stress (${\beta}=0.323$, p<0.01), problem solving (${\beta}=-0.320$, p<0.001), social support (${\beta}=0.064$, p<0.05), and emotional stress coping (${\beta}=0.264$, p<0.001). These factors explained 30.8% of the variance in smartphone addiction. Conclusions: The results from this study indicated that stress had a negative impact on smartphone addictions in subjects. It is necessary to provide smartphone addiction management for stress management.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between wearing masks and subjective symptoms of halitosis in the COVID-19 situation. The survey was conducted from June 15 to July 31, 2022, among university students aged 19 years or older in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, 1. Subjective symptoms of halitosis were found to be higher in males and students being treated for periodontal diseases. 2. The subjective symptoms of halitosis were found to be higher in subjects with psychological anxiety, even though they did not have halitosis. 3. As a result of examining the subjective symptoms of halitosis, it was found that there were more subjects who were aware of halitosis while wearing a mask than those who were not. In view of the above results, it is thought that because of prolonged wearing of masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the difficulty faced in oral health management increases the symptoms of halitosis. Therefore, it is considered that oral health education in the era of corona should be accompanied by proper wearing of masks and halitosis management education.
Objectives: The objective of the study is to investigate oral health behavior and oral health education experience in Korean adolescents from the ninth(2013) web-based survey of Korean youth risk behavior. Methods: The subjects were 72,435 students through the ninth 2013 web-based survey of Korean youth risk behavior conducted by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Korea Centers for Disease Control. The questionnaire consisted of socio-demographical characteristics of the subjects, oral health behavior, and oral health education experience. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 program. Results: Oral health education had much influence on tooth brushing after lunch, oral cavity disease prevention, sealants, fluoride application, scaling experience, and consumption of vegetables, milk, carbonated soft drinks, noodles, and snacks. The oral health education had a great impact on those who took good oral health behavior into action. Conclusions: It is very important and necessary to develop the continuing effective oral health education program for the adolescents and make them tale into action.
Objectives: To investigate how dental hygienists who have never used a digital oral scanner perceive the impression acquisition and evidence needed for prosthesis planning by using a digital oral scanner. Methods: From July 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017, subjects from Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea, were selected. The purpose of the study was described to dental hygienists who had never used a digital intraoral scanner. Questionnaires were distributed to the students selected. Of the 137 questionnaires distributed, 93 were used in the analysis after excluding 44 completed questionnaires that had errors or missing answers. Results: Of the respondents, 33.7% (36/93) were aged ${\geq}30$ years, 68.8% graduated from a 3-year vocational college course, 33.5% were aged ${\geq}33$ years, and 61.3%. At present, our center has the largest number of clinics (92.5%). The difficulty of impression taking using the digital oral scanner significantly differed (p<0.05) according to age and current occupation (p<0.05). Impression taking using a digital oral scanner significantly affected the present workflow of dental hygienists and their interest in sharing information about future use of digital oral scanner (p<0.01). Conclusions: If more routes are available to access digital intraoral scanners and more systems are developed for clinical use, the digital intraoral scanner could become digitized in the dental system; thereby, the existing impressions could be replaced with digitized impressions. With digital intraoral scanners, the expansion of the business of dental hygiene can be expected.
