일부 대학생들의 스케일링두려움의 정도 (Degree of scaling fear in college students)

  • Objectives: This study aims to investigate degree of scaling fear (Fear when scaling: FWS, Fear from dental hygienist unbelief: FFDHU, and Fear after scaling: FAS) in college students. Methods: 113 students were recruited for the study in Daegu Health College between March and June of 2017. Frequency table of general characteristics was generated, and then the t-test and ANOVA (scheffes's post hoct) were used to analyze the differences between scaling fear and two or three groups of variables. Results: Mean scores of scaling fear in 113 students were 2.24 (FWS), 1.76 (FFDHU), and 1.76 (FAS). Score 2.48 of female's scaling fear (FWS) was significantly higher than men's 2.02 (p<0.05). Smokers who have smoked less than 3 years (2.56) (FWS) were lower than those who have smoked over 3 years (1.55) (p<0.01). Score of students want the explanation of scaling when scaling (1.94) (FWS) were significantly higher than those who does not (1.59) (p<0.05). Conclusions: The findings of this study showed that there were gender and smoking periods when scaling to effect a score of scaling fear.

구강보건교육 전·후 지식향상 비교효과 연구: 온라인과 오프라인에서 외국인 유학생들을 대상으로 (Comparison of effectiveness on knowledge improvement before and after the oral health education: focusing on foreign students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate comparison of the effectiveness on knowledge improvement before and after the oral health education focusing on foreign students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 40 foreign students in Sun Moon University from June 2 to September 30, 2014. The experimental group had an online oral health education and the control group had an off line education. The questionnaire consisted of oral health(10 items), toothbrushing(10 items), dental caries(10 items), periodontal disease(5 items), tooth sensitivity(5 items), oral cancer(6 items), and smoking(5 items). The data were analyzed by SPSS Win 18.0 program. Results: Knowledge scores of online education increased to average 1.257 points, and that of offline education was average of 2.56 points. There were statistically significant results for toothbrushing, dental caries, periodontal disease, tooth sensitivity, oral cancer and TMD except for smoking in offline education group. Conclusions: This study suggests that the offline oral health education is more effective than online oral health education.

Research Trend Analysis of Research Published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene Science from 2011 to 2020

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to analyze research trends in articles published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene Science over the past decade. Methods: From 2011 to 2020, 653 studies were reviewed using a keyword analysis. Contents such as academic classification, research type, research method, research topic, data collection method, data analysis method, and financial support were analyzed. Results: Analysis by school type showed 34.2% of clinical dental hygiene studies, 23.3% of educational dental hygiene studies, 22.8% of basic dental hygiene studies, 10.0% of other field studies, and 9.8% of social dental hygiene studies. By type of study, quantitative studies were the most common at 69.5%. Regarding data collection methods, 45.8% of the studies that used surveys were the most common. The subjects of the study were 20.1% experimental studies, 15.6% general adults, and 15.0% dental hygienists. Regarding the data analysis method, 49.3% of the studies that conducted frequency analysis were the most common. The total number of keywords was 2,390, with 107 (4.48%) being 'dental hygienists.' Next, oral health was the most common with 67 (2.80%) articles, followed by 31 for the elderly (1.30%), 25 for dental hygiene students (1.05%), and 24 for stress (1.00%). Conclusion: For academic development of dental hygiene, it is necessary to explore the diversity of academic topics based on the results of this study. It is necessary to find a way to spread the research results so that the published research can be used for the academic development of dental hygiene.

고등학생의 치과위생사에 대한 직업 인지 관련 요인 (Factors Affecting Occupation Awareness for Dental Hygienist in High School Students)

  • 치과위생사 직업명칭에 대한 인지도를 파악하기 위해 경기도 평택시에 소재하는 한 고등학교의 재학생 중 각 학년별로 70명씩 할당추출을 하여 총 210명을 대상으로 자기기입식 설문조사를 실시하였다. 일반적 특성 및 치과진료경험에 따른 인지도와 다른 보건의료직종 직업명칭 인지도 등을 빈도분석, 교차분석, 로지스틱 회귀분석 등에 의해 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 일반적 특성 중 여학생은 19.3%가 치과위생사 직업명칭을 인지하고 있으나, 남학생의 인지율은 5.7%에 불과하였다(p=0.006). 학년에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 자연계 학생들의 인지율은 24.2%로서 인문계 학생들의 인지율(14.3%)보다 높았다(p=0.037). 치과진료경험, 치과정기검진, 구강보건교육 경험 등에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 2. 보건의료직종 중 직업명칭에 대한 인지도는 간호사가 가장 높고(93.8%), 치과의사(78.1%), 물리치료사(52.4%), 간호조무사(15.7%), 치과위생사(14.8%), 치과기공사(12.9%), 방사선사(10.0%), 임상병리사(3.3%), 작업치료사(1.0%) 순으로 나타났다. 조사대상자 중 '치과위생사'라고 정확하게 기재한 학생은 8명(3.8%)에 불과하였고, 23명(11.0%)이 '치위생사'라고 응답하였다. 3. 치과위생사 직업명칭 인지에 영향을 미치는 요인을 알기 위해 이분형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과 성별(Wald=4.287, p=0.038)과 임상병리사(Wald=7.016, p=0.008) 및 물리치료사(Wald=12.630, p<0.001) 직업명칭 인지 여부가 통계적으로 유의한 관련이 나타났다. 결론적으로, 치과위생사라는 직업명칭에 대한 인지도는 간호사, 치과의사, 물리치료사 등 다른 보건의료직종에 비해 매우 낮은 수준이며, 치과위생사에 대한 직업인지도를 높이기 위한 다각적인 노력이 필요하다는 점을 시사하고 있다.

일부 임상실습을 경험한 치위생(학)과 학생들의 동기면담 교육 필요성 인식도와 동기면담교육 참여의사에 미치는 영향 (The effect of recognition of need and participation intent of motivational interviewing education in dental hygiene students experiencing clinical practice)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of recognition of need and participation intent of motivational interviewing education in dental hygiene students experiencing clinical practice. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 261 dental hygiene students in Gwangju and Jeonnam from June 6 to August 8, 2016. The questionnaire comprised general charactieristics of the subjects and Motivational interviewing (MI) in health care including philosophy, principle, and method. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman's correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Recognition on need for MI education was positively correlated with participation intent for the education. MI method showed the highest correlation among MI educations(r=0.329, p<0.001). Participation intent for motivation interviewing(MI) education was higher in those having stronger recognition on need for MI method education and satisfaction with clinical practice. Conclusions: It is necessary to develop motivational interviewing education curriculum that will promote participation intent for motivational interviewing in clinical field.

Perception and satisfaction of the face and the need for aesthetic dental treatment in the college students

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the perception and satisfaction of faces and the need for aesthetic dental treatments in college students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 247 college students in Suncheon from August 29 to September 2, 2016. The questionnaire consisted of satisfaction of face (16 items), perception of the face (7 items), need for aesthetic dental treatment (3 items), and general characteristics of the study subjects (8 items). Tooth shade was measured using a shade guide (VITA classical shade guide, VITA North America, Chicago, USA). Data was analyzed using t test, ANOVA, and post hoc $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test. Results: The students were satisfied with eye, mouth corner, and lip, but they were not satisfied with tooth shade, bilateral symmetry of face, and angle of jaw. The students tended to be concious of perception of others. Their most common tooth shade was orange and yellow. They preferred to have a brighter tooth color. Conclusions: To satisfy the needs of patients, it is important to understand the perception and satisfaction of face and the need for aesthetic dental treatment.

치위생학과 교육과정에서의 치과의료커뮤니케이션 교과목 운영 사례연구 (Effectiveness and Learning Experience of Dental Communication Course Training in Dental Hygiene Schools)

  • 이번 연구는 치위생학과 교육과정에서 이론과 실습으로 구성된 효과적인 치과의료커뮤니케이션의 교육과정을 개발하기 위한 목적으로 운영되었으며, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. '관계 형성하기', '대화 열기', '정보 수집하기', '상대방의 시각 이해하기', '정보 공유하기', '의견일치 보기', '마무리짓기' 등 7가지 평가항목에서 교육 전보다 교육 후 모든 점수가 상승되었다. 이 중 '정보 수집하기'의 자가평가 수준은 수업 후 통계적으로 유의한 변화가 있었다(p=0.008). 치과의료커뮤니케이션 수업에 참여한 학생들은 교과목에 대한 중요성과 필요성에 대해 수업운영 전보다 후에 높게 인식하는 것으로 조사되었는데, '치과의료커뮤니케이션 수업은 치과위생사의 전문성을 키우는 데 중요하다고 생각하나요', '치과의료커뮤니케이션 수업이 교육과정에서 필요하다고 생각하나요' 라는 항목에서는 수업 전후 각각 통계적 유의한 차이를 보였다(p=0.019, p=0.016). 이러한 결과로 볼 때 치과위생사에게 필요한 핵심역량인 치과의료커뮤니케이션 역량을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육과정은 치위생(학) 교육과정으로 반드시 포함되어야 한다. 치과의료커뮤니케이션 역량은 교육과 학습을 통해 계발 및 향상될 수 있다. 따라서 치과의료현장에서 필요한 치과의료커뮤니케이션 요소들을 보다 구체적으로 정리하고, 이론 교육만이 아닌 실습 교육을 포함한 체계적이고, 학년 간 연계 가능한 교육과정의 개발이 시급한 것으로 판단된다. 또한 연구 대상자 수를 늘리고, 자가수준의 평가가 아닌 학생들의 커뮤니케이션 역량을 객관적으로 측정할 수 있는 평가도구 개발과 표준화된 치과의료커뮤니케이션 교육과정이 필요할 것으로 본다.

지역사회치위생학 현장(보건소)실습 실태 (Current education status of the community dental hygiene practice)

  • Objectives: This study was obtained to identify current education status of the community dental hygiene practice. Methods: It was designed cross section and self-reported on-line questionnaire(Survey monkey). It was performed probability sampling by targeting 82 dental hygiene schools(each one faculty member) in charge of community dental hygiene curriculum and 254 community health centers's community dental hygienists whom was working at oral health section. The response rate was 60% and 53%, respectively. The questionnaire consisted of time, duration, practice group, evaluation method, and practice contents including 63 learning objectives of dental hygiene. Results: Nearly half of these schools conduct such community field work practice in the spring semester of the junior year. This practice was mainly progressed based on average 4 students as one team per each one school for 7-8 hours a day during the period of more than 5 weeks(p<0.05). However, in case of both school and community health center, almost half of feedback after practice was not achieved and there was a difference in needs for practice education between schools and community health center. Conclusions: We should be considered that a sufficient consultation for the practice environment and its contents between schools and community health centers. It was considered that development of a standardized practice manual reflecting such requirement.

국내 거주 중국인 유학생의 치과의료 이용 실태조사 (A Study on the Use of Dental Institutions among Chinese Students in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 치과의료 이용 실태에 대해 조사함으로써 외국 유학생의 치과의료 이용에 대한 문제점을 개선하고 치과의료서비스 확충을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자, 2011년 4월 1일부터 7월 15일까지 국내 8개 대학에 재학 중인 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 조사를 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 국내 치과의료기관 이용 경험에 관한 질문에서 응답자의 14.4%가 국내에서 치과치료를 받은 경험이 있었으며, 이용한 치과의료기관 분류로는 치과의원이 52.5%로 가장 많았고, 치료받은 내용으로는 충치(충전)치료가 52.8%로 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 2. 국내 체류 중 치과치료를 받지 못한 경험에 대한 이유는 '비용이 부담스러워서'가 38.7%로 가장 많았으며, '시간이 없어서'라는 응답도 29.8%로 조사되었다. 3. 건강보험에 가입되어 있는 경우가 57.3%로 가입되어 있지 않은 경우보다 약간 많았으며, 건강보험의 필요성을 묻는 질문에서는 대부분 필요하다고 응답하였다. 또한, 건강보험에 가입한 경우 가입하지 않은 경우 보다 치과치료를 더 많이 받은 것으로 조사되었다(p<.001). 4. 치과의료 이용 만족도에서는 한국어 실력이 좋을수록 치료 만족도가 높은 것으로 조사되었으며(p<.01), 건강보험에 가입되어 있는 경우 가입하지 않은 경우보다 치료 만족도가 높았다(p<.05). 이러한 결과는 중국인 유학생의 효율적인 치과의료 이용을 위해서 유학생의 건강보험 가입에 관한 제도를 개선하고, 보건의료 관련 행정 지원이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

13-18세 청소년의 비만이 치아우식에 미치는 영향 (Effects of obesity on dental caries in adolescents of 13-18 years)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the relationship between obesity and dental caries of Korean adolescents. Methods: Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES VI) (2013 to 2015) were used and targeted adolescents aged 13 to 18 years. For statistical analysis, the SPSS 18.0 program was used, and the significance level was set at 0.05. Results: For the general and health-related characteristics, female students (p=0.001) showed higher decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index than male students. Furthermore, DMFT showed higher tendency, as age was higher (p<0.001). Smoking (p=0.011) and drinking experience (p=0.027) revealed higher DMFT. The dental caries experience was significantly different among students who were female (p=0.033), older (p=0.001), and overweight or underweight (p=0.022). In the BMI for the general and health-related characteristics, male students had higher obesity rate than female students (p=0.003), and obese subjects had higher dental checkup in the last year (p=0.013). In multiple linear regression analysis of obesity and DMFT, the unadjusted model showed that the obesity group's DMFT was about 0.8 higher than that of the normal group (p=0.024). However, statistical significance was not shown in the adjusted models. In the logistic regression analysis of obesity and dental caries experience, the unadjusted model 1 (1.93 times), the adjusted model 2 (1.79 times), and model 3 (1.76 times) showed significantly higher dental caries experience. Conclusions: Both obesity and dental caries are related to diet habits and lifestyles and have a negative impact on adult health. Therefore, it is necessary to create a healthy social environment around the adolescent, and proper intervention through education is required to form healthy habits.
