Objectives : The purpose of this study was to measure the fear of dental care and analyze the related factors between reliability for members in dental office and fear of dental care, dental office. Methods : Located in Gwangju, 260 college women who had dental experience in the past year were surveyed. SPSS windows ver. 11.0 by demographic characteristics and oral health characteristics of the frequency and percentage, and related factors in the fear of dental care and the reliability about dental health care workers of one way ANOVA, Tukey test for Post-Hoc test. and were factors associated with dental fear of the stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed. Results : The fear will be higher when subjective oral health status is considered lower, the reliability of dental health care workers is lower(p<0.05). Evasion and overall fear, overall fear and stimulations of dental care, stimulations of dental care and overall feeling were related(p<0.05). Conclusions : The reliability of dental health care workers is lower and subjective oral health status is considered lower, the fear of dental care increase and everage number of brushing has increased, the fear of dental care decrease.
Objective: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder that may be negatively associated with the self-image. It might be associated with orthodontic treatment demand and outcome, and therefore is important. Thus, this study was conducted. Methods: The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS) questionnaire was used in 699 orthodontic patients above 12 years of age (222 males, 477 females), at seven clinics in two cities (2020-2021). BDD diagnosis and severity were calculated based on the first 3 items and all 12 items of the questionnaire. The dental health component of the index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN-DHC) was assessed by orthodontists. Multivariable and bivariable statistical analyses were performed on ordinal and dichotomized BDD diagnoses to assess potentially associated factors (IOTN-DHC, age, sex, marital status, education level, and previous orthodontic consultation) (α = 0.05). Results: IOTN-DHC scores 1-5 were seen in 13.0%, 39.9%, 29.8%, 12.4%, and 4.9% of patients. Age/sex/marital status/education were not associated with IOTN-DHC (p > 0.05). Based on 3-item questionnaire, 17.02% of patients had BDD (14.02% mild). Based on 12-item questionnaire, 2.86% had BDD. BDD was more prevalent or severer in females, married patients, patients with a previous history of orthodontic consultation, and patients with milder IOTN-DHCs (p < 0.05). Conclusions: IOTNDHC was negatively/slightly associated with BDD in orthodontic patients. Being female and married may increase BDD risk.
Objectives : High school students to measure fear of dental treatment, dental health care workers according to the level of reliability of this study is to determine the extent of terror was carried out. Methods : Located in Gwangju, 165 high school students were surveyed. SPSS windows ver. 11.0 by demographic characteristics and oral health characteristics of the frequency and percentage, and dental health care workers about the reliability of the Chi-square test, the general characteristics and oral health characteristics by dental fear of the t-test and one way ANOVA and were factors associated with dental fear of the stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed. General characteristics, except Cronbach-${\alpha}$ coefficient was 0.911. Results : According the general fear of Dental Treatment Fear Factor item 4, you'll feel the highest fear when you feel the muscle tension and the needle pricks your skin. The reliability of dental health care workers if the dentist lower the higher the grade, subjective oral health status is considered more reliable health was higher, the stronger the reliability of pain was significantly lower (p<0.05). Other care coordination include the reliability of sources of interest in subjective oral health history, no past experience in treating pain and increase the number of reliability was low (p<0.05), past experience and increase the number of pain during treatment the stronger the fear of more pain showed an increase (p<0.05). Conclusion : According the related factors about the fear of dental treatment, stimulus-response and fear of dental office have increased, the fear of dental treatment increase.
This study was conducted to find out about the implementation status of dental treatment infection control standards of dental hygienists. The subjects of research were the dental hygienists working at dentist offices in Chungnam, Cheonan-si using self-input method from July 25th, 2012 to August 1st 2012. The collected data was analyzed after computerized statistical processing using SPSS 18.0. For hepatitis B vaccination, the results were high with 75.0% of answers being 'yes' or auto-active immunity, but for the latest hepatitis vaccination period showed highest results in '5 years or more ago' with 48.0%. Although 93.0% answered that vaccination was important, the percentage of replies that they had vaccination education was relatively low with 41.0%. For the use of personal protection tools the use of protective goggles was low compared to the use of masks and medical gloves. The percentage of subjects that answered that they always wash their hands before treatment was relatively low with 56.0% compared to 82.0% of subjects that answered that they always washed their hands after treatment. Dental treatment equipment washing before sterilization, use of packing and re-sterilization of tools with damaged packing showed high results for 'yes', but the ratio of subjects that answered 'no' to water line management was low with 39%.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine socioeconomic inequalities in oral health and to investigate the extent to which socioeconomic disparities in oral health are attenuated by oral health related consciousness and behaviors. Methods: We used data from the third 2006 Korea National Oral Health Survey(KNOHS) and a total of 3,457 subjects aged over 18 years were analyzed. The dependent variable was periodontal conditions which is devided into dichotomy, that is, health and ill-health, using the Community Periodontal Index(CPI) in KNOHS. Socioeconomic status(SES) were measured by educational attainment, income and residential area. Age, gender, oral health consciousness(self-assessed oral health status, concern about oral health and self-perceived dental treatment needs and behaviors(brushing, use of dental floss and dental visits) were adjusted in binary logistic regression analysis. Results and Conclusion: The results show that oral health consciousness and behaviors do not mediate the relationship between SES and periodontal health and there might be limitations to attenuate socioeconomic disparities in oral health only by changing of either oral health consciousness or(and) behaviors. Our findings suggest that more definite oral health policies and dental health education among adults with lower education will need in order to improve oral health.
Objectives: The aim of this analysis was to investigate factors associated with dental visits in terms of getting diagnosis and receiving care for diagnosed dental diseases among Korean adults. Methods: Data used in this analysis were from the 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey which involved a representative sample of 25,487 adults nineteen years of age and older who resided in Korea. This analysis used data of adults who had completed health interview survey (n = 25,215). Uni- and bi-variate analysis, Chi-square test, and logistic regression analyses. were conducted using SAS. Results: The percentages of people diagnosed (treated) dental canes, periodontal disease. and temporomandibular joint disorder were 70.4(77.1), 16.1 (55.7), and 0.6(37.4), respectively. The reception of treatment for diagnosed dental caries and periodontal disease was significantly associated with older age, high monthly household income, and high education attainment. Logistic regression model indicated that age, monthly household income, education attainment, type of health insurance, and chewing problem were significantly associated with getting diagnosis and treatments of dental diseases. Most frequently answered reason for non - or delayed treatments of diagnosed dental diseases during the last one year was cost of treatments. Conclusions: The findings indicated that socio-economic-status still significantly affected reception of needed dental treatments among Korean adults despite the national health insurance system. Oral health policy and programs should be augmented to provide further support to adults of low socio-economic-status who are more prone to dental diseases yet lack resources for needed dental treatments.

This is the third series of article on dental occlusion and relationship to TMD and systemic symptoms. In this part of the series, it will overview the theory, treatment methods, criteria, their limitation of Chirodontics, Dental Distress Syndrome (DDS) and quadrant theorem(QT). Chirodontics has its root on Chiropractic and to maintain the 'healthy status' of TMJ with stable occlusion via dental treatment. Dental distress syndrome on the other hand believes that all the TMD has originated from reduced or collapse of posterior support and incorrect posterior vertical support had caused imbalance of the head and neck structure which eventually affect the whole body symptoms. The analysis and treatment is planned using quadrant theorem where the position of head, rotatory pivot point and occlusal plane is analyzed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health condition and dental treatment need of low socioeconomic elderly people. A total of 116 elderly people who visited Boramae Hospital were evaluated with oral examination and panoramic radiogaph. The results showed that the most expecting treatment of low income aged people was removable partial denture. It was very clear in the age group of 70-84. In the age group under 70, most of the patients wanted prosthodontic tratement using fixed partial denture or crown. As the result of this study, elderly people with low socioeconomic status under age 85 needed removable partial denture or fixed prosthesis than complete denture. It is necessary to develop a more expanding and customized Senile prosthetic restoration program.
