  • Load/Unload(L/UL) technology includes the benefits, that is, increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance contrary to contact start stop(CSS). It has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider disk contact or no media damage. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effect of the ramp profile. We can find out the lateral velocities in L/UL process through experiments and simulations for force of voice coil motor and friction force on ramp. And then, we will gain the optimal design of ramp slope to maintain the minimum clearance of suspension dimple and slider with FE model. In special, after finding the point at which air bearing breaks and designing the ramp, we will identify the results for improving unload performance.

  • Recently, the image processing technologies using the public media such as the film, TV, camera and advertisement have been rapidly developed. However, the deterioration occurs with the image in the process of data processing, transmission and storage, and the typical cause of such deterioration is the salt and pepper noise. Typical filters to remove the salt and pepper noise include CWMF(center weighted median filter) and AMF(adaptive median filter) but such filters bring more or less insufficient characteristics of noise removal and visual error as the noise density gets higher. Thus, this paper proposed the median filter which applied the local mask segmented to 4 areas in order to remove the salt and pepper noise effectively and used PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) as a criterion of judgment.

  • Optimum inoculum concentration for the production of taxol was determined in Taxus brevifolia and Taxus cuspidata cell suspension cultures. By fresh weight, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 g/flask of cells were inoculated and cell growth as well as taxol production were examined. In both Taxus cell cultures, the higher the inoculum concentration, the shorter the length of the lag period. The optimum inoculum concentration for taxol production was found to be 5 g/flask. To produce taxol in large quantity, utilization of proper medium was thought to be important. In case of using a production medium with 6% sucrose, taxol production was noticed. Its level reached the maximum at the 9th day of culture and decreased afterwards. However, taxol was not detected from cell cultures in growth medium.

  • Mycelium composites and leathers have versatile material properties based on their composition and manufacturing process. To prepare mycelium mat for the production of mushroom leather, several strains were mutated by gamma rays. Some mutant strains, including Lentinula edodes, Ganoderma lucidium, and Schizophyllum commune showed good hyphae growth rate and density on saw-dust media. Irradiation power (Gy), time, and height from the radiation source to the sample were examined. Based on the preliminary data obtained in this study, comprehensive research should be conducted to explore the optimal strains and culture conditions for mycelium-based leather production.

  • 3D contents could cause unique 3D visual fatigue. Screen disparity, image blurring, and crosstalk are known to be the three major factors responsible for the fatigue. Among these, screen disparity and image blurring are content factors, that is, one can directly manipulate contents themselves to handle visual fatigue caused by these two factors. On the other hand, because crosstalk is closely tied to physical characteristics of 3D display, it is difficult or even impossible to reduce crosstalk-driven visual fatigue unless one replaces 3D display itself (for example, from active to passive display). However, the effects of crosstalk on 3D visual fatigue depends on visual stimulus features (that is, contents), and thus it is possible to manipulate stimulus features in order to handle visual fatigue caused by crosstalk. Hence, this research tested the effects of visual stimulus features on crosstalk (which then causes 3D visual fatigue). Using relative depth discrimination task, we tested the effects of stimulus-background contrast, background texture density, and screen disparity on the degree of perceived crosstalk. The results showed that crosstalk decreases with presence of background texture and with less degree of screen disparity.

  • In this study, media optimization by statistically designed experiments stimulated an increase in cell growth of Bacillus sp. during batch cultivation. Plackett-Surman design method selected 3 components among 7 components of production medium. Box-Behnken design method calculated the optimum concentration of selected components by Plackett-Surman design. In the optimized medium, viable cell number increased 2 times. Addition of antifoam effected the cell growth depending on the type of antifoam Vegetable oil, are a carbon source and an antifoam. increased cell growth and controlled foaming

  • The HDD (hard disk drive) using Load/Unload (L/UL) technology includes the benefits which are increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance than those of contact-start-stop (CSS). Dynamic L/UL has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. Main design objectives of the L/UL mechanisms are no slider-disk contact or no media damage even with contact during L/UL, and a smooth and short load and unload process. In this paper, we focus on state matrix, pitch static attitude (PSA), roll static attitude (RSA), loading/unloading contour (LC/ULC), impact force and contact. Stability of slider is mainly determined by PSA and RSA. State matrix by PSA and RSA is also important indicator. Therefore we analyze state matrix of SFF HDD suspension through the LC/ULC.

It has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology far developing the small form factor hard disk drive. The main object of L/UL is no slider-disk contact or no media damage. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL system. In this paper, we focus on lift-off force. The 'lift-off' force, defined as the minimum air bearing force, is another very important indicator of unloading performance. A large amplitude of lift-off force increases the ramp force, the unloading time, the slider oscillation and contact-possibility. To minimize 'lift-off' force we optimizes the slider and suspension using the integrated optimization frame, which automatically integrates the analysis with the optimization and effectively implements the repetitive works between them. In particular, this study is carried out the optimal design considering the process of modes tracking through the entire optimization processes. As a result, we yield the equation which can easily find a lift-off force and structural optimization for suspension.

  • Salt and pepper noise is caused by various causes such as camera malfunction, storage media memory error, and transmission channel error. Representative filters to remove salt and pepper noise include SMF(standard median filter), CWMF(center weighted median filter), and AMF(adaptive median filter). However previous filters have inadequate noise removal characteristics in high density salt-and-pepper noise environment. Therefore the study suggested a composite filter which, through noise evaluation, preserves original pixels when the central pixel is non-noise, and uses spatial weighted value mask and median when there is noise.

  • The effects of particle size distribution have been investigated on the high frequency low loss Mn-Zn fer-rites. The particle size distribution was controlled by milling time. Zirconia ball and engineering plastic jar were employed to avoid iron contamination from the milling media. As increasing the milling time BET value was increased from 0.55 to 3.21m2/g and mean particle size was decreased from 2.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$ The large specific surface area of initial powder resulted in the high density of sintered core. However starting powders with high BET lead to inhomogeneous grain growth as well as poor electromagnetic pro-perties at sintering temperature above 1300$^{\circ}C$.
