This paper discusses the issues associated with the design of high speed machines for applications with a wide constant-power region requirement. Using described multi-domain design environments which put equal weight on the electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical considerations, the suitability and power density achievable using Induction Machines (IM) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) are compared.
Since the stator winding of High-Speed Permanent Magnet Generator (HSPMG) has few winding turns and low inductance value, it is more prone to be influenced by harmonic current. Moreover, the operation efficiency and the torque stability of HSPMG will be greatly influenced by harmonic current. Taking a 117 kW, 60 000 rpm HSPMG as an example, in order to analyze the effects of harmonic current on HSPMG in this paper, the 2-D finite element electromagnetic field model of the generator was established and the correctness of the model was verified by testing the generator prototype. Based on the model, the losses and torque of the generator under different frequency harmonic current were studied. The change rules of the losses and torque were found out. Based on the analysis of the influence of the harmonic phase angle on torque ripple, it is found that the torque ripple could be weakened through changing the harmonic phase angle. Through the analysis of eddy current density in rotor, the change mechanism of the rotor eddy current loss was revealed. These conclusions can contribute to reduce harmonic loss, prevent demagnetization fault and optimize torque ripple of HSPMG used in distributed power supply system.
This paper deals with eddy current loss analysis of Slotless Double sided Cored type permanent magnet linear generator by using analytical method, space harmonic method. In order to calculate eddy current, this paper derives analytical solution by the Maxwell equation, magnetic vector potential, Faraday's law and a two-dimensional(2-D) cartesian coordinate system. First, we derived the armature reaction field distribution produced by armature wingding current. Second, by using derived armature reaction field solution, the analytical solution for eddy current density distribution are also obtained. Finally, the analytical solution for eddy current loss induced in permanent magnets(PMs) are derived by using equivalent, electrical resistance calculated from PMs volume and eddy current density distribution solution. The analytical result from space harmonic method are validated extensively by comparing with finite element method(FEM).
An automatic quadrilateral mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis such as metal forming simulation was developed. The NURBS interpolation method is used for modeling arbitrary 2-D free surface. This mesh generation technique is the modified paving algorithm, which is an advancing front technique with element-by-element resolving method for paving boundary intersection problem. The mesh density for higher analysis accuracy and less analysis time can be easily controlled with high-density points, maximum and minimum element size. A couple of application to large deformation finite element analysis is given as an example, which shows versatility and applicability of the proposed approach and the developed mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis.
Density and velocity perturbations in scales most relevant for the first galaxy formation are strongly affected by large-scale density perturbations, velocity-divergence perturbations and the baryon-cold dark matter (CDM) streaming velocities. Even at redshifts as high as z~200, this mode-mode coupling imprints a significant impact on the small-scale perturbations, at the wavenumber k >${\sim}100Mpc^{-1}$, as was calculated in our recent work. This implies that cosmological initial conditions based on the usual linear theory is no longer valid in these scales. We present a new cosmological initial condition generator, BCCOMICS, which generates initial conditions for the cold dark matter (CDM) and baryons in scales most relevant for the first galaxy formation. BCCOMICS is based on the linear perturbation theory including the mode-mode coupling terms, and generates cosmological initial conditions for the SPH-basded code GADGET and the AMR-based code ENZO. We also present our preliminary result on the cosmic variance of the first galaxy formation, studied by using BCCOMICS.
The paper presented a method of early fire detection based on the environmental characteristics inside the nacelle of wind turbine generator system(WTGS). The rising rates of the temperature and smoke density were used as the parameters for early fire detection. By considering the characteristics of temperature and smoke density of a nacelle, this method is very reliable and can minimize the possibility of a malfunction of fire detection. The performance of the method was tested through sets of experiments by using nacelle simulator.
We present our first attempt at understanding the dual impact of the large-scale density and velocity environment on the formation of very first astrophysical objects in the Universe. Following the recently developed quasi-linear perturbation theory on this effect, we introduce the publicly available initial condition generator of ours, BCCOMICS (Baryon Cold dark matter COsMological Inital Condition generator for Small scales), which provides so far the most self-consistent treatment of this physics beyond the usual linear perturbation theory. From a suite of uniform-grid simulations of N-body+hydro+BCCOMICS, we find that the formation of first astrophysical objects is strongly affected by both the density and velocity environment. Overdensity and streming-velocity (of baryon against cold dark matter) are found to give positive and negative impact on the formation of astrophysical objects, which we quantify in terms of various physical variables.
The fluid-elastic instability analysis of the U-tube bundle inside the steam generator is very important not only for detailed design stage of the SG but also for the change of operating condition of the nuclear powerplant. However the calculation procedure for the fluid-elastic instability was so complicated that the consolidated computer program has not been developed until now. In this study, the numerical calculation procedure and the computer program to obtain the stability ratio were developed. The thermal-hydraulic data in the region of secondary side of steam generator was obtained from executing the ATHOS3 code. The distribution of the fluid density can be calculated by using the void fraction, enthalpy, and operating pressure. The effective mass distribution along the U-tube was required to calculate natural frequency and dynamic mode shape using the ANSYS ver. 5.6 code. Finally, stability ratios for selected tubes of the CE type steam generator were computed. We considered the YGN 3.4 nuclear powerplant as the model plant, and stability ratios were investigated at the flow exit region of the U-tube. From our results, stability ratios at the central and the outside region of the tube bundle are much higher than those of other region.
Since airborne viruses have been known to aggravate indoor air quality, studies on development of anti-viral air filter increase recently. In this study, a mass aerosol particle generator for coating a commercial air filter (over $300{\times}300mm^2$) was built, and evaluated by comparing a commercial particle generator. Then, via this device, a commercial air filter was coated with anti-viral material ($SiO_2-Ag$ nanoparticles in this study), so fabrication of commercial anti-viral air filter was performed and the pressure drop, filtration efficiency, and anti-viral ability of the filter were evaluated against aerosolized bacteriophage MS2 in a continuous air flow condition. The result showed that the particle generation of the new generator was more than about 8.5 times over which of the commercial one. Consequently, $SiO_2-Ag$ particle coating on a filter does not have significant effects on the filtration efficiency and pressure drop with different areas, and the average anti-viral efficiency of the $SiO_2-Ag$ filter was about 92% when the coating areal density was $1.0{\times}10^{12}particles/m^2$.
