  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the cortical bone densities of the maxillary and mandibular alveolar processes in adults with different vertical facial types using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Methods: CBCT images (n = 142) of adult patients (20-45 years) were classified into hypodivergent, normodivergent, and hyperdivergent groups on the basis of linear and angular S-N/Go-Me measurements. The cortical bone densities (in Hounsfield units) at maxillary and mandibular interdental sites from the distal aspect of the canine to the mesial aspect of the second molar were measured on the images. Results: On the maxillary buccal side, female subjects in the hyperdivergent group showed significantly decreased bone density, while in the posterior region, male subjects in the hyperdivergent group displayed significantly decreased bone density when compared with corresponding subjects in the other groups (p<0.001). Furthermore, the subjects in the hyperdivergent group had significantly lower bone densities on the mandibular buccal side than hypodivergent subjects. The maxillary palatal bone density did not differ significantly among groups, but female subjects showed significantly denser palatal cortical bone. No significant difference in bone density was found between the palatal and buccal sides in the maxillary premolar region. Overall, the palatal cortical bone was denser anteriorly and buccal cortical bone was denser posteriorly. Conclusion: Adults with the hyperdivergent facial type tend to have less-dense buccal cortical bone in the maxillary and mandibular alveolar processes. Clinicians should be aware of the variability of cortical bone densities at mini-implant placement sites.

  • In this paper, the impact of the copper densities of substrate layers on IC package warpage is studied experimentally and numerically. The substrate strips used in this study contained two metal layers, with the metal densities and patterns of these two layers varied to determine their impacts. Eight legs of substrate strips were prepared. Leg 1 to leg 5 were prepared with a HD (high density) type of strip and leg 6 to leg 8 were prepared with UHD (ultra high density) type of strip. The top copper metal layer was designed to feature meshed patterns and the bottom copper layer was designed to feature circular patterns. In order to consider the process factors, the warpage of the substrate bottom was measured step by step with the following manufacturing process: (a) bare substrate, (b) die attach, (c) applying mold compound (d) and post reflow. Furthermore, after the post reflow step, the substrate strips were diced to obtain unit packages and the warpage of the unit packages was measured to check the warpage trends and differences. The experimental results showed that the warpage trend is related to the copper densities. In addition to the experiments, a Finite Element Modeling (FEM) was used to simulate the warpage. The nonlinear material properties of mold compound, die attach, solder mask, and substrate core were included in the simulation. Through experiment and simulation, some observations were concluded.

  • In this review paper, we report the characteristics of the critical current density in FeAs based superconductors which is newly discovered by Hosono group of Tokyo Institute of Technology on 2008. Since the many specimens in present stage are not single crystals, there are two kinds of critical current density observed in the specimens which are so-called local and global critical current densities. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate both kinds of critical current densities. The history effect in which the global critical current density shows different values in increasing and decreasing magnetic field is also observed when the specimens have the local and the global critical current densities. The wire which critical current is 180 A is successfully developed with using the knowledge of abovementioned characteristics of two kinds of critical current densities and the history effect.

  • This study investigated the effects of stocking density on the growth of the mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri, in small (1-year old, 50.2 g/fish) and large (2-years old, 173.1 g/fish) size (age) groups. Small and large fish groups were fed pelleted diets twice daily for 10 and 15 weeks, respectively. In the small group, at the end of the feeding, the weight gain of fish at a density of $4kg/m^3$ was lower than that of fish at densities of 3, 2 and $1kg/m^3$. However, fish stocking density did not affect feed efficiency. The daily feed intake of fish at a density of $4kg/m^3$ was lower than that fish at densities of 3, 2 and $1kg/m^3$. In the large fish group, the weight gain of fish at a density of $4.5kg/m^3$ was higher than that of fish at densities of 6, 3 and $1.5kg/m^3$. Again, fish stocking density did not affect feed efficiency. The daily feed intake of fish at a density of $4.5kg/m^3$ was higher than that of fish at densities of 6, 3 and $1.5kg/m^3$. Based on these results, the optimum stocking density for small (50.2 g/fish) and large (173.1 g/fish) mandarin fish is 3 and $4.5kg/m^3$, respectively.

  • The measurement of the apparent and tap density for Al-Pb-X(Sn,Sn-Si) powders produced by centrifugal atomizer showed that the larger theoretically calculated densities the larger those densities. And tap densities were not over 50% of the theoretical densities. The nip angle of Al-5wt%Pb alloy powders produced with 38000 r.p.m. of disk rotation was $3^{\circ}$ degree larger than that of Al-8.5wt%Pb-3wt%Sn(-4wt%Si, 8wt%Si) with 50000 r.p.m. The effects of roll gap and rolling speed on thickness and density of the single strips by rolling were that rolling speed increasing the thickness and density of strip decreased and roll gap increasing, the thickness of strip increased but the density decresed. The compactibility of Al-Pb-X with Al by rerolling showed that the coarse powder-strips were better than fine powder-strips. From the SEM study with EDX analysis on the sintered strips, it was found that Pb and Sn were segregated with maximum size $5{\mu}m$, and Si existed surrounding the segregation zone. After sintering the clad strips at $500^{\circ}C$, the pores, which were spherical with $5{\mu}m$ of mean diameter, partly remained around the particles of alloy powders area, while completely disappeared at clad interface. The hardness of strips of alloy powders decreased linearly with increasing sintering temperature.

  • Moon jellyfish Aurelia coerulea are highly abundant off the coast of Tongyeong, Korea. We measured the density of A. coerulea in this area using a scientific echosounder at frequencies of 38 and 120 kHz, and then applied a distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) model to calculate the target strength of the echosounder at each frequency. Then, we used the frequency difference method to extract jellyfish echo signals and estimate the A. coerulea density. A. coerulea was evenly distributed throughout the water column; the backscattering strength ranged from -75 to -65 dB. In May and August, the A. coerulea densities at survey lines 3 and 4 were estimated at 1.5-1.6 and 0.2-0.9 g/m2, with mean weighted densities of 1.04 and 0.48 g/m2, respectively. In September, the A. coerulea densities estimates in Jaran Bay and Goseong Bay were 0.6-2.1 and 0.1-0.4 g/m2, with mean weighted densities of 1.25 and 0.24 g/m2, respectively.

  • A recycling reactor system operated under sequential anoxic and oxic conditions for the treatment of swine wastewater has been developed, in which piggery slurry is fermentatively and aerobically treated and then part of the effluent is recycled to the pigsty. This system significantly removes offensive smells (at both the pigsty and the treatment plant), BOD and others, and may be cost effective for small-scale farms. The most dominant heterotrophic were, in order, Alcaligenes faecalis, Brevundimonas diminuta and Streptococcus sp., while lactic acid bacteria were dominantly observed in the anoxic tank. We propose a novel monitoring system for a recycling piggery slurry treatment system through the use of neural networks. In this study, we tried to model the treatment process for each tank in the system (influent, fermentation, aeration, first sedimentation and fourth sedimentation tanks) based upon the population densities of the heterotrophic and lactic acid bacteria. Principal component analysis(PCA) was first applied to identify a relationship between input and output. The input would be microbial densities and the treatment parameters, such as population densities of heterotrophic and lactic acid bacteria, suspended solids(SS), COD, NH$_4$(sup)+-N, ortho-phosphorus (o-P), and total-phosphorus (T-P). then multi-layer neural networks were employed to model the treatment process for each tank. PCA filtration of the input data as microbial densities was found to facilitate the modeling procedure for the system monitoring even with a relatively lower number of imput. Neural network independently trained for each treatment tank and their subsequent combined data analysis allowed a successful prediction of the treatment system for at least two days.

  • This study was performed to compare the bone mineral densities measured at mandibular premolar area by copper-equivalent image and hydroxyapatite phantom with those measured at radius by dual energy absorptiometry and to evaluate the clinical usefulness of Digital system with slide scanner, copper-equivalent image, and hydroxyapatite phantom. For experiment. intraoral radiograms of 15 normal subjects ranged from 20 years old to 67 old were taken with copper-step wedge at mandibular premolar area and bone mineral densities calculated by conversion equation to bone mineral density of hydroxyapatite were compared with those measured at radius distal 1/3 area by Hologic QDR-1000. Obtained results as follows: 1) The conversion equation was Y=5.97X-0.25 and its determination coefficient was 0.9967. The coefficient of variation in the measurement of copper-equivalent value ranged from 4% to 8% and showed high reproducibility. 2) The coefficient of variation in the measurement of bone mineral density by the equation ranged from 7% to 8% and showed high reproducibility. 3) The bone mineral densities ranged from 0.35 to 0.79g/cm2 at mandibular premolararea. 4) The correlation coefficient between bone mineral densities at mandibular premolar area and those at radius distal 1/3 area was 0.8965. As summary, digital image analyzing system using copper-equivalent image and hydroxyapatite phantom appeared to be clinically useful to measure the bone mineral density at dental area.

  • The environmental dependence of the morphology of dwarf galaxies in isolated satellite systems is analyzed to understand the origin of the dwarf galaxy morphology using the visually classified morphological types of 5836 local galaxies with $z{\leq}0.01$. We consider six sub-types of dwarf galaxies, dS0, dE, $dE_{bc}$, dSph, $dE_{blue}$, and dI, of which the first four sub-types are considered as early-type and the last two as late-type. The environmental parameters we consider are the projected distance from the host galaxy ($r_p$), local and global background densities, and the host morphology. The spatial distributions of dwarf satellites of early-type galaxies are much different from those of dwarf satellites of late-type galaxies, suggesting the host morphology combined with $r_p$ plays a decisive role on the morphology of the dwarf satellite galaxies. The local and global background densities play no significant role on the morphology of dwarfs in the satellite systems hosted by early-type galaxies. However, in the satellite system hosted by late-type galaxies, the global background densities of dE and dSph satellites are significantly different from those of $dE_{bc}$, $dE_{blue}$, and dI satellites. The blue-cored dwarf satellites ($dE_{bc}$) of early-type galaxies are likely to be located at $r_p$ > 0.3 Mpc to keep their cold gas from the ram pressure stripping by the hot corona of early-type galaxies. The spatial distribution of $dE_{bc}$ satellites of early-type galaxies and their global background densities suggest that their cold gas is intergalactic material accreted before they fall into the satellite systems.

  • It has been postulated that abnormal characteristics of central noradrenergic nervous system has been implicated in the development and maintenance of hypertension in several modes of experimental hypertension including spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). In the present study, we attempt to determine if abnormal characteristics of central noradrenergic nervous system in SHR is caused by genetic factors or hypertensive phenomena by evaluating the changes of central adrenoceptors after long-term treatment of clonidine. Animals were divided into three groups; (1) 14 week-old SHR; (2) age-matched normotensive Wistar rats (NW); (3) DOCA-Salt induced hypertensive rats (DS). Clonidine (100 ug/kg) or vehicle was injected intraperitonealy twice a day for 15 days. Changes of ${\alpha}_1-$ and ${\alpha}_2-receptor$ desities following clonidine treatment were determiend in frontal corte, medulla oblongata and hypothalamus using 3H-WB4101 and 3H-clonidine, respectively. Densities of ${\alpha}_1$ and ${\alpha}_2-receptors$ following clonidine treatment were not changed in frontal cortex and medulla oblongate of SHR as well as DS, but increased in frontal cortex of NW and decreased in medulla oblongata of NW. On the other hand, densities of ${\alpha}_1-receptors$ were increased and densities of ${\alpha}_2-receptors$ were not changed in hypothalamus of SHR but densities of ${\alpha}_1-$ and ${\alpha}_2-receptors$ were decreased in hypothalamus of DS as well as NW. These results suggest that such differences in frontal cortex and medulla oblongata of SHR may be results of hypertensive phenomena whereas those in hypothalamus may be relevant to genetic factors of SHR.
