The Impact of Conspicuous Consumption and Perceived Value on New Product Adoption Intention

  • Unidimensional construct of conspicuous consumption which focuses on the ostentation of the economic assets are limited in describing today's consumers. We propose that both ostentation of social status and demonstration of uniqueness through overt consumption should be considered in the realm of conspicuous consumption. This research aims to examine the two dimensions of conspicuous consumption tendencies and their impact on new product adoption intention, which is mediated through the perceived value of the new products. This research empirically validates the theoretical conjecture by conducting an online survey (N=272). Our empirical findings reveal that ostentation of social status influences new product adoption intention both directly and indirectly through perceived social value, while demonstration of uniqueness improves new product adoption intention only indirectly through perceived utilitarian and hedonic value. This research identifies the ostentation of social status and demonstration of uniqueness as two dimensions of conspicuous consumption and refines scales to measure them. In addition, this research identifies conspicuous consumption as a driver of new product adoption intention and recognizes the mediating role of perceived value.

성남 u-헬스 시범사업의 평가 (Evaluation of u-Healthcare Demonstration Project in Sungnam)

  • To test if the developed ubiquitous health care devices working well and vital information could be collected and monitored systematically through internet and to test if the devices and services could be used further. Kyungwon University, KT Co., Gil Medical Center, LIG Nex1 Co., and Sujeong Health Center conducted an ubiquitous health care demonstration project in Sujeong-Gu, Sungnam, Korea from Mar. 5 to May 16. We developed and applied several medical devices to monitor health of the elderly in their houses through internet. The devices were sphygmomanometer, glucometer, body fat scale, Health Pad, and activity sensor. We distributed the devices to 20 recipients of home care and 7 diabetes patients. After received the devices and were explained how to use them, they used the devices in their houses. The vital signs of the residents were monitored through internet. A nurse monitored and consulted their vital signs in the monitoring center in Kyungwon University during the demonstration period. The consultant called them and consulted on their blood pressure, blood sugar level, and body fat after a few seconds they used the devices as well as provision of recommended contents such as diets and activities through Health Pad. To investigate cognition and satisfaction of the participants for the devices, we surveyed the participants at the end of the demonstration period. For the change in blood pressure, blood sugar level, and activities, we conducted statistical test. After the demonstration period. cognition and satisfaction for the devices and change in blood pressure, blood sugar level, and activities were evaluated. Most of the participants were acknowledged how to use the device and satisfied with the use of the devices. The internet monitoring and services are considered to be promising because most of the participants were satisfied especially because somebody was monitoring their health status. However some weaknesses such as short battery life of the activity sensor, lack of connection of consultations with hospitals, and low understanding on usage of some of the devices need to be complemented.

휴먼형 로봇 손의 사물 조작 수행을 이용한 사람 데모 결합 강화학습 정책 성능 평가 (Evaluation of Human Demonstration Augmented Deep Reinforcement Learning Policies via Object Manipulation with an Anthropomorphic Robot Hand)

  • 로봇이 사람과 같이 다양하고 복잡한 사물 조작을 하기 위해서는 휴먼형 로봇 손의 사물 파지 작업이 필수적이다. 자유도 (Degree of Freedom, DoF)가 높은 휴먼형(anthropomorphic) 로봇 손을 학습시키기 위하여 사람 데모(human demonstration)가 결합한 강화학습 최적화 방법이 제안되었다. 본 연구에서는 강화학습 최적화 방법에 사람 데모가 결합한 Demonstration Augmented Natural Policy Gradient (DA-NPG)와 NPG의 성능 비교를 통하여 행동 복제의 효율성을 확인하고, DA-NPG, DA-Trust Region Policy Optimization (DA-TRPO), DA-Proximal Policy Optimization (DA-PPO)의 최적화 방법의 성능 평가를 위하여 6 종의 물체에 대한 휴먼형 로봇 손의 사물 조작 작업을 수행한다. 학습 후 DA-NPG와 NPG를 비교한 결과, NPG의 물체 파지 성공률은 평균 60%, DA-NPG는 평균 99.33%로, 휴먼형 로봇 손의 사물 조작 강화학습에 행동 복제가 효율적임을 증명하였다. 또한, DA-NPG는 DA-TRPO와 유사한 성능을 보이면서 모든 물체에 대한 사물 파지에 성공하였고 가장 안정적이었다. 반면, DA-TRPO와 DA-PPO는 사물 조작에 실패한 물체가 존재하여 불안정한 성능을 보였다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 방법은 향후 실제 휴먼형 로봇에 적용하여 휴먼형 로봇 손의 사물 조작 지능 개발에 유용할 것으로 전망된다.

  • We study on the significance and application of the whole body form diagnosis. The results were as follows; The general form diagnosis is the method to observe the individual physiology and pathology. The phase of thinking, the current and activity of KI, the pattern of general form diagnosis have organic relations with the symptoms. The general form diagnosis is made up the principle of the imaging phase, therefore it must make synthetic union the differentiation of syndromes. The general form diagnosis of NAE GYEONG shows the typical phases and it is divided with the sight of YIN YANG and Five-Element. The general form diagnosis of SEOP GAE is practiced the theory of constitution's demonstration before the understanding of symptoms. Then JANG NAM tried the type of constitution's demonstration. The general form diagnosis of DONG MU becomes the diagnostic root of constitution's demonstration in four type constitution theory.

독립형 풍력기반 Smart Microgrid 시스템의 현장 실증 시험을 위한 도서지역 전력 및 경제성 시뮬레이션 (Power and Economic Simulation of Island for the Field Demonstration Test of Smart Microgrid System Based on Stand-alone Wind power)

  • The isolated self-generating electricity with diesel engine generator has been used in islands far away from main land. It costs high because of increasing oil price, and unsafe to have supplying oil and its related components by ship due to unexpectable marine conditions. Therefore there is the need for the hybrid system of renewable energy like wind or solar energy systems with oil engine generator, which can reduce oil use and extend oil supplying period. In this study, the feasibility of such hybrid system with smart micro grid on the eight islands of Jeon-nam province is surveyed to find good place for the demonstration test of the hybrid system. In each island, 3 wind turbine systems of 10 kW and photovoltaic of 20 kW are tested with already installed diesel engine. The performance and costs of the hybrid system in each island are compared in the given conditions of solar and wind energy potential. As a result of the study, Jung-ma island is recommended for the optimum place to make real field demonstration test of isolated hybrid generating and smart grid systems.

  • 30톤급 액체로켓엔진 연소기 개발 기술을 바탕으로 75톤급 기술검증용 연소기 시제품을 제작하였다. 시제품 제작에서 검증하고자 하였던 일부 기계가공 공정 및 접합 기술들은 75톤급 연소기에서도 동일하게 적용할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 새롭게 설계된 연소기 헤드부는 새로운 공정을 적용하여 제작하였다. 기술검증용 시제품을 통해 확립된 공정 및 기술들은 대형 액체로켓엔진 연소기 제작 기술의 신뢰성을 향상 시킬 것이다.

  • A long-term field demonstration experiment of selected stabilization method to reduce the heavy metal mobility in farmland soil contaminated by heavy metals around abandoned mine site was conducted. Field demonstration experiments were established on the contaminated farmland with the wooden plate(thickness=1cm) which dimension were width=200cm, Length=200cm, height=80cm and filled with treated soil, which was mixed with lime stone and steel refining slag except on control plot. Soil samples in the plots were collected and analyzed during the experiment period(2008. 2~2008. 8) after the installation of the plots. Field demonstration experiments results showed that the application ratio of lime stone 5% was effective for immobilizing heavy metal components in contaminated farmland soil.

  • Although human-sized bipedal humanoid robots have been developed as the ideal form of human-friendly robots, studies of humanoid robots from the user perspective and of actual interaction between humanoid robots and the public in daily environments are few. This paper presents a long-term public demonstration that encouraged interaction between a humanoid robot and unspecified individuals. We have collected a significant amount of subjective evaluation data from the public by performing a storytelling demonstration that enhanced people's empathy towards the robot. The evaluation model consists of the robot's human friendliness, which involves its impression on humans, interaction with humans, and imitation of human motions and the robot's human appearance which involves gender, age, height, and body type. This study shows that there is no significant difference in human-friendliness between gender groups (male and female), while there is a significant difference between age groups (children and adults). In human appearance, it appears that there is no significant difference between either gender groups or age groups, except for the case of the robot's height.
