Investigation on the seismic performance of T-shaped column joints

  • More and more special-shaped structural systems have been widely used in various industrial and civil buildings in order to satisfy the new structural system and the increasing demand for architectural beauty. With the popularity of the special-shaped structure system, its seismic performance and damage form have also attracted extensive attention. In the current research, an experimental analysis of six groups of (2/3 scale) T-shaped column joints was conducted to investigate the seismic performance of T-shaped column joints. Effects of the beam cross section, transverse stirrup ratio and axial compression ratio on bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity of column joints were obtained. The crack pattern of T-shaped column joints under low cyclic load was presented and showed a reversed "K" mode. According to the crack configurations, a tensile-shear failure model to determine the shear bearing capacity and crack propagation mechanisms is developed.

Study on Application of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Considering Risk of Circuit Breaker Short-Circuit Capacity in a Loop Network System

  • This paper suggests an application method for a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using an evaluation index to estimate the risk regarding the short-circuit capacity of the circuit breaker (CB). Recently, power distribution systems have become more complex to ensure that supply continuously keeps pace with the growth of demand. However, the mesh or loop network power systems suffer from a problem in which the fault current exceeds the short-circuit capacity of the CBs when a fault occurs. Most case studies on the application of the SFCL have focused on its development and performance in limiting fault current. In this study, an analysis of the application method of an SFCL considering the risk of the CB's short-circuit capacitor was carried out in situations when a fault occurs in a loop network power system, where each line connected with the fault point carries a different current that is above or below the short-circuit capacitor of the CB. A loop network power system using PSCAD/EMTDC was modeled to investigate the risk ratio of the CB and the effect of the SFCL on the reduction of fault current through various case studies. Through the risk evaluations of the simulation results, the estimation of the risk ratio is adequate to apply the SFCL and demonstrate the fault current limiting effect.

지진하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 소요연성도에 따른 심부구속철근량 (Confinement Steel Amount for Ductility Demand of RC Bridge Columns under Seismic Loading)

  • 본 연구는 철근콘크리트 교각에 대한 새로운 내진설계법을 개발하기 위한 연구의 일환으로서, 지진하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 연성도와 심부구속철근량의 상관관계를 분석하고 설계식을 제시함을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여, 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 기둥의 횡하중-변위 포락곡선 실험결과를 비교적 정확하게 예측하며, 특히 변형능력 및 연성도에 대하여는 실험결과에 비하여 안전측의 결과를 제공하는 비선형해석 프로그램 [NARCE]를 이용하였다. 해석의 대상 교각으로는, 단면지름, 형상비, 콘크리트 강도, 축방향철근 항복강도, 심부구속철근 항복강도, 축방향철근비, 축력비, 심부구속철근비 등을 주요변수로 하여 총 7,200개의 철근콘크리트 나선철근 기둥 모델을 채택하였다. 해석결과 자료를 대상으로 상관관계를 분석하여 소요연성도에 따른 심부구속철근량의 새로운 설계식을 제안하였으며, 이 식은 연성도에 기초한 철근콘크리트 교각의 새로운 내진설계법에 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

변동 제주 SMP를 적용한 제주도 육상풍력단지의 경제성 재평가 (Reassessment of Economic Feasibility for a Wind Farm on Jeju Island Considering Variable Jeju SMP)

  • Economic feasibility study using weighted average variable Jeju System Marginal Price, SMP, was conducted for Gasiri wind farm of Jeju Island. To predict the variable Jeju SMP, generator share ratio for SMP was calculated from the real time wind power production and the power demand data for years. Also, sensitivity analysis on Net Present Value, NPV, and Benefit/Cost Ratio, B/C ratio, were performed to clarify which factors are more important in assessing economic feasibility. The result shows that the Gasiri wind farm has a minimum of 110 billion won and a maximum of 132 billion won difference between fixed and variable SMP. Also, Capacity Factor, C.F., had the highest sensitivity for NPV, followed by SMP. Accordingly, when economic analysis for a potential wind farm site is carried out, the variable SMP as well as C.F. should be considered for more accurate assessment of the wind farm.

Statistical Analysis of the Usage Type of Online Cremation Reservation Service in Funeral Information System : Focused on the Public Cremation Facilities of Incheon Metropolitan City

  • As of 2016, the cremation rates in the capital area are 91.2% in Incheon Metropolitan City, 87.5% in Seoul Special City, and 87.1% in Gyeonggi-do Province, of which Incheon has the highest rate, and cremation of general corpses through the online cremation reservation service of the funeral information system is continuously increasing every year. And as of 2017, the ratio of the cremation for those outside the jurisdiction (residents of other regions) among the users of public cremation establishment in Incheon, is about 32%. As the supply capacity is expected to reach the limit within several years due to the increase in demand for such a cremation facility, I would like to suggest a policy as follows. The expansion of cremation supply capacity by increasing the number of operations in the cremation furnace; The attractions of operating funds through contracts for joint use of the cremation facility with other local governments and investment funds for the expansion of cremation facilities; The plan for controlling the demand in cremation such as an increase in cremation charge for those outside the jurisdiction(residents of other regions), should be considered.

A new non-iterative procedure to estimate seismic demands of structures

  • Using the nonlinear static procedures has become very common in seismic codes to achieve the nonlinear response of the structure during an earthquake. The capacity spectrum method (CSM) adopted in ATC-40 is considered as one of the most known and useful procedures. For this procedure the seismic demand can be approximated from the maximum deformation of an equivalent linear elastic Single-Degree-of-Freedom system (SDOF) that has an equivalent damping ratio and period by using an iterative procedure. Data from the results of this procedure are plotted in acceleration- displacement response spectrum (ADRS) format. Different improvements have been made in order to have more accurate results compared to the Non Linear Time History Analysis (NL-THA). A new procedure is presented in this paper where the iteration process shall not be required. This will be done by estimation the ductility demand response spectrum (DDRS) and the corresponding effective damping of the bilinear system based on a new parameter of control, called normalized yield strength coefficient (η), while retaining the attraction of graphical implementation of the improved procedure of the FEMA-440. The proposed procedure accuracy should be verified with the NL-THA analysis results as a first implementation. The comparison shows that the new procedure provided a good estimation of the nonlinear response of the structure compared with those obtained when using the NL-THA analysis.

A new optimized performance-based methodology for seismic collapse capacity assessment of moment resisting frames

  • Moment-resisting frames (MRFs) are among the most conventional steel structures for mid-rise buildings in many earthquake-prone cities. Here, a simplified performance-based methodology is proposed for the seismic collapse capacity assessment of these buildings. This method employs a novel multi-mode pushover analysis to determine the engineering demand parameters (EDPs) of the regular steel MRFs up to the collapse prevention (CP) performance level. The modal combination coefficients used in the proposed pushover analysis, are obtained from two metaheuristic optimization algorithms and a fitting procedure. The design variables for the optimization process are the inter-story drift ratio profiles resulting from the multi-mode pushover analyses, and the objective values are the outcomes of the incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). Here, the collapse capacity of the structures is assessed in three to five steps, using a modified IDA procedure. A series of regular mid-rise steel MRFs are selected and analyzed to calculate the modal combination coefficients and to validate the proposed approach. The new methodology is verified against the current existing approaches. This comparison shows that the suggested method more accurately evaluates the EDPs and the collapse capacity of the regular MRFs in a robust and easy to implement way.

물수지 분석법을 이용한 제주도 권역별 미래 농업용 지하수 공급 가능량 추정 (Estimation of Regional Future Agricultural Available Groundwater Supply in Jeju Island Using Water Balance Method)

  • To evaluate the available groundwater supply to the agricultural water demand in the future with the climate change scenarios for 40 sub-regions in Jeju Island, groundwater recharge and the available groundwater supply were estimated using water balance analysis method. Groundwater recharge was calculated by subtracting the actual evapotranspiration and direct runoff from the total amount of water resources and available groundwater supply was set at 43.6% from the ratio of the sustainable groundwater capacity to the groundwater recharge. According to the RCP 4.5 scenario, the available groundwater supply to the agricultural water demand is estimated to be insufficient in 2020 and 2025, especially in the western and eastern regions of the island. However, such a water shortage problem is alleviated in 2030. When applying the RCP 8.5 scenario, available groundwater supply can't meet the water demand over the entire decade.

Climate-instigated disparities in supply and demand constituents of agricultural reservoirs for paddy-growing regions

  • Agricultural reservoirs are critical water resources structures to ensure continuous water supplies for rice cultivation in Korea. Climate change has increased the risk of reservoir failure by exacerbating discrepancies in upstream runoff generation, downstream irrigation water demands, and evaporation losses. In this study, the variations in water balance components of 400 major reservoirs during 1973-2017 were examined to identify the reservoirs with reliable storage capacities and resilience. A conceptual lumped hydrological model was used to transform the incident rainfall into the inflows entering the reservoirs and the paddy water balance model was used to estimate the irrigation water demand. Historical climate data analysis showed a sharp warming gradient during the last 45 years that was particularly evident in the central and southern regions of the country, which were also the main agricultural areas with high reservoir density. We noted a country-wide progressive increase in average annual cumulative rainfall, but the forcing mechanism of the rainfall increment and its spatial-temporal trends were not fully understood. Climate warming resulted in a significant increase in irrigation water demand, while heavy rains increased runoff generation in the reservoir watersheds. Most reservoirs had reliable storage capacities to meet the demands of a 10-year return frequency drought but the resilience of reservoirs gradually declined over time. This suggests that the recovery time of reservoirs from the failure state had increased which also signifies that the duration of the dry season has been prolonged while the wet season has become shorter and/or more intense. The watershed-irrigated area ratio (W-Iratio) was critical and the results showed that a slight disruption in reservoir water balance under the influence of future climate change would seriously compromise the performance of reservoirs with W-Iratio< 5.

  • 본 논문에서는 산업체의 최근의 에너지를 둘러싼 문제점을 해결하기위해서 에너지다소비신고업체의 현황을 분석하고 산업체 업종별 전기와 열의 부하패턴 분석하여 가스열병합발전의 보급 확대를 위한 기반을 구축하였다. 즉, 경제성분석을 통하여 에너지다소비신고업체 중에서 가스 열병합발전으로 전환 가능한 잠재량 도출하여 우리나라 가스 및 전력수급에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.
