  • The studies was carried out to investigate ripening degree and functional properties of EMC produced with pancreatic protease and palatase ML. During production of EMC, the amounts of free amino acid and free fatty acid were increased with increasing the reaction time. The amount of total nitrogen(T-N) and water soluble nitrogen(WSN) were increased with increasing time. EMC had contents of 1.79eA T-N and 0.52o WSN at 60 min of hydrolysis time. SRI and FRI value had also a similar correlationship. On the gel filtration, 2 kinds of soluble proteining capacity was also shown in alkali solution. Furthermore the foaming stability had the same result as that of the solubility. The water absorption of EMC showed the highest level at pH 4.0 and 5.0.

Evaluation of physical property and cytotoxicity of resin infiltrant based on a triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA)

  • Objectives: The resin infiltration technique is a promising alternative therapy for arresting the early dental caries. However, there are very few reports on the safety and biocompatibility of this technique. We evaluated various properties of resin infiltrant (RI) based on a triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA).The water sorption (Wsp) and water solubility (Wsl) was assessed. Additionally, the cytotoxicity of RI against both animal and human fibroblast cell lines was investigated. Methods: The RI of the $Icon^{(R)}$, the first product developed for resin infiltration, is mainly composed of TEGDMA in the resin matrix. The Wsp and Wsl for the RI were measured in accordance with ISO 4049 specifications. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used for analyzing the polymerization before and after curing of RI. The cytotoxicity of RI against the mouse fibroblasts (L929) and human gingival fibroblasts (hTERT-hNOF) was evaluated using MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay and the data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance. Results: Wsp and Wsl of the RI specimens were $53.37{\mu}g/mm^3$ and $10.6{\mu}g/mm^3$, respectively. FTIR analysis revealed a slightly higher degree of curing with longer irradiation time. The degree of conversion for RI was high (80.9%) after 40 seconds of light curing. There was a significant decrease in the viability of L929 and hTERT-hNOF cells at RI extraction solution concentrations above 50%, respectively, compared to that in the negative control (p< 0.05). Conclusions: Even though the RI exhibited positive effect on the early prevention of dental caries, the clinicians should also consider the toxicity of RI on periodontal tissues.

그래핀 옥사이드의 환원 반응에 적용되는 3종류 환원제에 관한 비교 연구 (Comparative Studies on Three Kinds of Reductants Applicable for the Reduction of Graphene Oxide)

  • 본 연구에서는, 그래핀 옥사이드(GO)의 환원에 가장 보편적으로 사용되는 3종류의 환원제를 사용하여 환원 그래핀 옥사이드(RGO)를 제조하였다. 합성된 3종류 RGO의 화학적 구조를 비교/분석하여 구조적 특징에 따른 전도도 및 분산성의 차이를 고찰하였다. Ethylene glycol을 사용한 경우에는 환원도가 낮고 전도도도 상대적으로 낮았다. 반면에 hydrazine과 thiourea dioxide (TU)를 사용하여 합성한 RGO에서는 환원 정도, 전도도 및 물에서의 분산성 등에 차이가 거의 없었다. 그러나 N-methylpyrrolidone에서의 분산성은 TU에 의해 합성된 RGO에서 가장 우수하여 4개월 후에도 안정적인 분산액을 유지하였다.

불용성 세리신의 산 가수분해 (Acid Hydrolysis of Insoluble Sericin)

  • 불용성 세리신을 가수분해하기 위해 염산 수용액을 이용하여 농도 및 시간별로 처리하여 처리조건이 가수분해에 미치는 영향에 대해 관찰되었다. 가수분해 후 분말화하여 분자량 분포와 분자량 및 백도를 측정하였고, 아미노산 분석을 통하여 세리신의 아미노산 조성의 변화를 시험하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 염산 가수분해시 0.5N HCl보다 1N 처리시의 용해도가 5%가량 높았고, 처리 시간이 경과할수록 용해도가 증가하고, 6시간 이상의 처리에서는 그 증가폭이 크지않았다. 가수분해된 세리신의 전기영동 결과는 인정할만한 특정밴드는 나타나지 않았으며 분자량 6,000~20,000 사이에 많이 분포하는 것을 알았다. 가수분해된 세리신의 평균 중합도를 측정한 결과 4.2~5.9이었으며, 이를 분자량으로 환산하면 각각 470~670정도가 된다. 백도는 가수분해 시간이 경과할수록 감소하였다. 가수분해된 세리신의 아미노산 분석시 세리신 가수분해물은 220$^{\circ}C$ 부근의 열변성 피크와 330$^{\circ}C$ 부근의 열분해 피크에서 흡열 피크가 관찰되었다.

환경친화적인 수용성 섬유에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Environmentally Friendly Water-Soluble Fiber)

  • 본 연구에서는 셀룰로오스계 부직포를 이용하여 상온에서 물에 녹는 카르복시메틸셀룰로오스(carboxymethylcellulose; CMC)를 합성하였다. 실험변수는 반응온도, 시간, 수산화나트륨(NaOH) 및 모노클로로아세트산(monochloroacetic acid; MCA)이다. 머서화(mercerization) 및 에테르화(etherification)할 때, 용해도와 치환도(degree of substitution ; DS)는 NaOH(또는, MCA)농도를 증가시키면서 최대 용해도와 치환도를 관찰하였다. 이때의 최대용해도와 치환도는 NaOH(또는, MCA)농도가 30%일 때 얻어졌다. 치환도를 볼 때, MCA농도의 영향은 NaOH농도에 비해 더 크게 나타났다. CMC섬유의 인장강도(Tensile strength; TS)에서는 효과적인 결과를 보였고, 반응시간, 시약농도와 반응온도에 따라 인장강도는 감소하였다. 그러나 인장강도의 큰 변화가 중성영역 부근에서 관찰되었다.

세륨옥사이드나노입자(Cerium Oxide Nano Particles; CNPs)를 첨가한 치면열구전색재의 물리적 특성 및 세포독성 (Physical Properties and Cytotoxicity of Dental Pit and Fissure Sealants Containing Cerium Oxide Nano Particles(CNPs))

  • 본 연구는 기존의 치면열구전색재 ConciseTM에 세륨옥사이드 나노입자(Cerium oxide nano particles; CNPs)를 0-4.0 wt%를 첨가하여 새로운 치면열구전색재를 제조하여 물리적 성질과 세포독성을 평가하였다. 물리적 성질은 중합깊이, 물흡수도와 용해도를 측정하였고 세포독성평가는 불멸화된 구강점막세포(Immortalized human oral keratinocyte (IHOK))를 이용하여 MTT assay법으로 평가하였다. 실험 결과 중합 깊이는 CNPs 첨가량이 증가할수록 감소하였고, 용해도는 CNPs를 2.0 wt% 첨가된 실험군에서 가장 낮은 값을 보였으며 물흡수도는 각 실험군별 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다(p>0.05). 세포독성 실험 결과는 모든 실험군에서 높은 세포 생존율을 보였다. 이는 CNPs가 물리적 성질을 크게 약화 시키지 않으며 세포독성을 나타내지 않았으므로 생체 적합성을 입증하였다. CNPs의 특성을 고려하여 향후 CNPs의 효율적인 분산 기술에 대한 추가 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

The influence of nanofillers on the properties of ethanol-solvated and non-solvated dental adhesives

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of nanofillers on the chemical and physical properties of ethanol-solvated and non-solvated dental adhesives. Materials and Methods: Eight experimental adhesives were prepared with different nanofiller concentrations (0, 1, 2, and 4 wt%) and 2 solvent concentrations (0% and 10% ethanol). Several properties of the experimental adhesives were evaluated, such as water sorption and solubility (n = 5, 20 seconds light activation), real-time degree of conversion (DC; n = 3, 20 and 40 seconds light activation), and stability of cohesive strength at 6 months (CS; n = 20, 20 seconds light activation) using the microtensile test. A light-emitting diode (Bluephase 20i, Ivoclar Vivadent) with an average light emittance of $1,200mW/cm^2$ was used. Results: The presence of solvent reduced the DC after 20 seconds of curing, but increased the final DC, water sorption, and solubility of the adhesives. Storage in water reduced the strength of the adhesives. The addition of 1 wt% and 2 wt% nanofillers increased the polymerization rate of the adhesives. Conclusions: The presence of nanofillers and ethanol improved the final DC, although the DC of the solvated adhesives at 20 seconds was lower than that of the non-solvated adhesives. The presence of ethanol reduced the strength of the adhesives and increased their water sorption and solubility. However, nanofillers did not affect the water sorption and strength of the tested adhesives.

Freeze Denaturation of Squid Actomyosin

  • Denaturation of actomyosin from the obliquely striated mantle muscle of squids (Todarodes pacificus) was studied by measuring the changes in $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity, relative viscosity, and solubility during frozen storage at three different temperature zones of maximum ice crystal formation $(-3^{\circ}C,\;-\;-5^{\circ}C)$, the eutectic point $(-11^{\circ}C)$, and $-20^{\circ}C$. The logarithms of $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity, relative viscosity and solubility of the actomyosin solutions (0.6 M KCl) and suspensions (0.05 M KCl) tended to decrease during frozen storage. The denaturation of squid actomyosin at the zone of maximum ice crystal formation significantly differed by only two degree of temperature difference between $-3^{\circ}C$ and $-5^{\circ}C$, and it (0.05 M KCl) at $-3^{\circ}C$ was less than those of other temperature. The denaturation at $-11^{\circ}C$ was more rapid than at $-5^{\circ}C$. The logarithms of $Ca^{2+}$ -ATPase activity, relative viscosity, and solubility were changed slower in the suspensions (0.05 M KCl) than the solutions (0.6 M KCl) at all experimental temperatures.

FT-Raman Studies on Ionic Interactions in ${\pi}$-Complexes of Poly(hexamethylenevinylene) with Silver Salts

  • Remarkably high and stable separation performance for olefin/paraffin mixtures was previously reported by facilitated olefin transport through ${\pi}$-complex membranes consisting of silver ions dissolved in poly(hexamethylenevinylene) (PHMV). In this study, the ${\pi}$-complex formation of $AgBF_4,\;AgClO_4\;and\;AgCF_{3}SO_3$ with PHMV and their ionic interactions were investigated. FT-Raman spectroscopy showed that the C=C stretching bands of PHMV shifted to a lower frequency upon incorporation of silver salt, but the degree of peak shift depended on the counter-anions of salt due to different complexation strengths. The symmetric stretching modes of anions indicated the presence of only free ions up to [C=C]:[Ag]=1:1, demonstrating the unusually high solubility of silver salt in PHMV. Above the solubility limit, the ion pairs and higher-order ionic aggregates started to form. The coordination number of silver ion for C=C of PHMV was in the order $AgBF_4$ > $AgClO_4$ > $AgCF_{3}SO_3$, but became similar at [C=C]:[Ag]=1:1. The different coordination number was interpreted in terms of the different transient crosslinks of silver cations in the complex, which may be related to both the interaction strength of the polymer/silver ion and the bulkiness of the counteranion.

식품 성분과 식품 포장용 인쇄 잉크 용매의 화학적 구조가 분배작용에 미치는 영향 (Effect of chemical and physical structure on partitioning behavior of representative printing ink solvents and various food ingredients)

  • Migration behavior of selected solvents and food samples showed differences of the chemical structures and polarities, the food samples which have similar polar expresses more higher affinity than different polar degrees. Water which is polar has a highest partitioning coefficient values on polar isopropanol, and oil which is nonpolar has highest partitioning value on non-polar toluene. The increasing order of partitioning values was accord with increasing water contents in food samples. It is showed that the wheat flour with 13.2% moisture content has the highest partitioning coefficient values on the isopropanol with -OH. Kp value of sugar showed remarkable lower partitioning coefficient values than other food samples due to high degree crystallinity. This phenomenon can be predictable with ${\delta}$ values, because order of partitioning coefficient values which comes out through the experiment and the sequence of Hildebrand solubility parameter value difference between food sample and printing ink solvent correspond almost. This Hildebrand solubility parameter value can be easily applied to the food package industry because the effect of food-safety can be considered without passing through complicated steps by using this method.
