An experimental research was conducted to establish primary data for the stabilization assessment of industrial wastes landfill with analysis of waste components and investigation of leachate and gas generation, using three sets of lysimeter as experimental apparatus. Comparing results of lysimeter from data of landfill, it is suggested that lysimeter of this study can be used to accomplish the stabilization assessment of the real landfill site. Moisture content was lower as landfill period was older and combustible component was the highest in lysimeter C. The C/N ratio of waste was 7.4~14.4 and, with the elemental analysis, the theoretical gas generation rate based on the modified Buswell equation was 0.47~0.49 $m^3/kg-dry$ waste in lysimeter C. Considering the C/N ratio of leachate, it is concluded that the addition of carbon source is needed to biodegrade leachate hereafter. Gas generation rate($m^3/kg-dry$ waste) from lysimeter A, B and C was 0.0009, 0.014 and 0.0067, respectively, and different from each other according to the landfill period of wastes. The results in this study show that the biodegradation of microorganism for stabilization of landfill was inhibited and more activated in acidogenic step than in methanogenic of anaerobic degradation.

An experimental study was conducted to test the feasibility of degradative solidification/stabilization (DS/S) process in treating tetrachloroethylene (PCE) in solid phase systems. The Fe(II)-based ds/s process successfully treated PCE in a soil at the reaction rates that would not allow significant release of the contaminant in the environment. A leach model was also developed that could describe the relative importance of leaching and degradation in ds/s. The first and second Damkohler numbers and dimensionless time were important parameters that determined leaching precesses in wastes treated by ds/s.

In this study, the thermal degradation properties of polyethylene terephthalate film has been examined by the capacitance, Tan ${\delta}$, thermography, FTIR, and SEM results at temperatures of $90{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ and frequencies of 0.3~3,000 kHz. It was found that the capacitance decreased with increasing thermal imaging temperature, probably caused by weakening of chemical bond with increasing temperature. Tan ${\delta}$ decreased upon increasing temperature from $90^{\circ}C$ to $170^{\circ}C$, probably due to the molecular motion of COOH radical or OH radical. The FT-IR measurement reveals that no structural change of the material occurs upon thermal radiation. The SEM measurement shows that the material is stabilized by thermal decomposition with increasing temperature; however, excessive thermal degradation obstructs the stabilization of the material.
Alginate based polymeric matrices were designed for controlled release and stabilization of cefaclor in gastrointestinal fluid. Cefaclor is known to be acid stable and subjected to be degraded at neutral and alkaline pHs. In order to achieve an effective release profile of cefaclor in gastrointestinal tract, a particular strategy in dosage form design should be required from the view point of maintaining its activity. The amphiphilic nature of cefaclor allowed its controlled release using ionic polymers based on ionic interaction between the drug and polymers. The thrust of this study was to develop a technique that delivers cefaclor keeping effective release rate in the intestinal tract. Considering the fast degradation of cefaclor in the intestinal fluid, the matrices were designed to release surplus amount of cefaclor. The alginate based matrices demonstrated increase in release rate in the simulated intestinal fluid, which was favorable to compensate the degraded portion of cefaclor. In addition, stabilization of cefaclor in the intestinal fluid was obtained by employing citric acid that provides an local acidic environment. The matrices might be valuably used for the development of an oral cefaclor dosage form.

Landfilling is one of the most widely used methods for the final disposal of solid wastes. Landfilled wastes are degraded by residing microorganisms and the microbial degradation is affected by many factors such as moisture, oxygen, pH, alkalinity, sulphate, nutrient, temperature, and so on. Especially among these factor, oxygen and moisture within aerobic landfill play a major role in microbial degradation. In this study, 1) the effects of oxygen on the velocity of waste degradation and 2) the effect of moisture on the degradation of municipal solids waste (MSW) in aerobic condition were investigated. It was found that the BOD and CODcr concentration from the leachate of aerobic lysimeters dropped faster by 80 days after the start of the test compared to those from the anaerobic lysimeters. To see the effect of moisture, four aerobic lysimeters filled with MSW and four different levels of moisture (20, 30, 40, and 50%) were installed. From this test, higher moisture in MSW produced higher $CO_2$ concentration, meaning moisture was effective for the microbial degradation. thus, we concluded that higher moisture level in the aerobic landfill might help early-stabilization microbial degradation.
To formulate the parenteral delivery of a new cephalosporin derivative, 7-${\beta}$-[(2)-2-(2-arninothiazol-4-yl)-2methoxyiminoacetamido]- 3- [(2,3-cyclopenteno-4-carbamoyl-l-pyridinium)methyl]- 3-cephem-4-carboxylate sulfate( CKD604), the stability and solubility of CKD-604 in various aqueous media were investigated. The degradation kinetics of CKD-604 in aqueous solutions (ionic strength 0.1, pH 1-8) were studied at $37^{\circ}C$. The observed degradation rates followed pseudo first order kinetics. The pH-rate profile exhibited a minimum degradation rate at pH 5. The Arrhenius activation energy was 14.2 kcal/mol in pH 5 buffer solution. Excellent agreement between the cephalosporins' theoretical pH-rate profile and the experimental data indicated that the degradation pathway of CKD-604 could be predicted according to the general pathway of cephalosporins. The solubility of CKD-604 was 8.16 mg/ml at $25^{\circ}C$. To enhance the solubility and adjust the suitable pH, CKD-604 was solubilized by using sodium ascorbate, ascorbic acid and urea. The compositions were obtained to satisfy optimum pH and concentration, and the total amount of additives was several times of the active ingredient, CKD-604.
Chemical and photochemical processes during storage and preparation rapidly degrade retinol, the most active form of vitamin A. therefore, the efficacy of incorporation into liposomes in order to modulate the kinetics of retinol degradation was investigated. Retinol was readily incorporated into multilamellar liposomes that were prepared form soybean phosphatidylcholine; the extent of the incorporation was 98.14±0.93% at pH 9.0 at a ratio of 0.01 : 1 (wt:wt) retinol : phospholipid. It was only marginally lower at higher retinol concentrations. The pH of the hydration buffer had a small effect. The incorporation efficiency ranged from 99.25±0.47% at pH 3 to 97.45±1.13% at pH 11. The time course of the retinol degradation in the aqueous solution in liposomes was compared to that of free retinol and free retinol with α-tocopherol under a variety of conditions of pH(3, 7, and 11), temperature(4, 25, 37, and 50℃), and light exposure(dark, visible, and UV). The retinol that was incorporated into the liposomes degraded significantly slower than the free retinol or retinol with α-tocopherol at pH 7 and 11. At pH 3, where the free retinol degrades rapidly, the degradation kinetics were similar in liposomes and the presence of α-tocopherol. At pH 7.0 and 4℃ in the light, for example, free aqueous retinol was completely degraded within 2 days, while only 20% of the retinol in the liposomes were degraded after 8 days. In general, the protective effect of the liposome incorporation was greater at low temperatures, at neutral and high pH, and in the dark. The results suggest that protection is greater in the solid, gel phase than in the fluid liquid crystalline phase lipids. These results indicate that the incorporation into liposomes can extend the shelf-life of retinol under a variety of conditions of temperature, pH, and ambient light conditions.
Soil stabilization is an essential engineering process to enhance the geotechnical properties of soils that are not suitable for construction purposes. This study focuses on using coconut coir, a natural fibre to enhance the soil properties. Lime, an activator is added to the reinforced soil to augment its shear strength and durability. An experimental investigation was conducted to demonstrate the effect of coconut coir fibers and lime on the consistency limits, compaction characteristics, unconfined compressive strength, stress-strain behaviour, subgrade strength and durability of the treated soil. The results of the study illustrate that lime stabilization and coir reinforcement improves the unconfined compressive strength, post peak failure strength, controls crack propagation and boosts the tensile strength of the soil. Coir reinforcement provides addition contact surface, improving the soil-fibre interaction and increasing the interlocking between fibre and soil and thereby improve strength. Optimum performance of soil is observed at 1.25% coir fibre inclusion. Coir being a natural product is prone to degradation and to increase the durability of the coir reinforced soil, lime is used. Lime stabilization favourably amends the geotechnical properties of the coir fibre reinforced soil.
In order to investigate the feasibility of transmucosal delivery of the model peptide, LHRH, metabolism of LHRH and inhibition effect of medium chain fatty acid salts were studied in rabbit mucosal homogenate. LHRH incubated in homogenates of rectal(RE), nasal(NA) and vaginal(VA) mucosa were assayed by HPLC. Five to six degradation products of LHRH were deterted and the degradation of LHRH$(500\;{\mu}g/ml)$ followed the first order kinetics. The main degradation products were found as $LHRH^{1-5}(M-I)$, $LHRH^{1-3}(M-II)$ and $LHRH^{1-6}(M-III)$ by the method of amino acid analysis. The half-lives of LHRH in the mucosal homogenates were found to be less than 20 min at protein concentration of 2.5 mg/ml with the order of VA>NA>RE mucosal homogenate. Medium chain fatty acid salts such as sodium caprylate $(C_8)$, sodium caprate $(C_{10})$ and sodium laurate $(C_{12})$ at the concentration of $0.5%{\sim}1.0%$ inhibit the proteolysis of LHRH significantly. The addition of sodium laurate(0.5%) into the NA and VA mucosal homogenates protected LHRH completely from the degradation.
