HW/SW Co-design of a Visual Driver Drowsiness Detection System

  • PID auto-tuning controller was designed via fuzzy logic. Typical values such as error and error derivative feedback were changed as heuristic expressions, and they determine PID gain through fuzzy logic and defuzzification process. Fuzzy procedure and PID controller design were considered separately, and they are combined and analyzed. Obtained auto-tuning PID controller by Fuzzy Logic showed the ability for less than 3rd order plant control. We also applied to reference tracking problem with the designed auto-tuning scheme.

  • Most people have to deal with color and color problems occasionally. There are many strange things about color and color vision that most people do not notice. Even though color seems intuitive and simple it is not. In this paper, we modeled the color using fuzzy set theory. The proposed fuzzy color model is based on the Munsell color space. We defined several fuzzy color terminologies, and proposed a extended center of gravity defuzzification mthod for fuzzy color set. Finally, three distance measures between fuzzy colors were also formulated.

  • Fuzzy theory may be constructed of Fuzzy sets theory, Fuzzy measurement and Appoximate reasoning, and nowadays the reseaches on it are done widely in both theoretical and practical aspects. In this paper, the authors sought for the subject in Hirota's Fuzzy CAI: A decision making simulated fuzzy problem on the speed and accelerator control of a car driven in the high way. Interesting results on these fuzzy solutions of this problem, based on a defuzzification with 9 kinds of the methods, are reported. And the characters of these solutions, linear or nonlinear and their fuzzy control evaluations are stated.

  • Wang and Medel proved (1991) that fuzzy systems with product inference, centroid defuzzification, and everywhere positive membership functions (in particular, Gaussians, Wang, 1992) are capable of approximating any real continuous control function on a compact set to arbitrary accuracy. Kosko (1992) proved that fuzzy systems, in which membership functions have compact support, and combination operation (V-operation) for rules is the sum, are also universal approximators. In this paper, we generalize this result of Kosko and prove that for any &- and V-operations, any defuzzification procedure, and any basic membership function with a compact support, the resulting fuzzy controls are universal approximators. Also, Wang's result is transfered to min-inference.

  • Fuzzy inference system which inferences and processes the Fuzzy information is designed using digital voltage mode neural circuits. The digital fuzzification circuit is designed to MIN,MAX circuit using CMOS neural comparator. A new defuzzification method which uses the center of area of the resultant fuzzy set as a defuzzified output is suggested. The method of the center of area(C. O. A) search for a crisp value which is correspond to a half of the area enclosed with inferenced membership function. The center of area defuzzification circuit is proposed. It is a simple circuit without divider and multiflier. The proposed circuits are verified by implementing with conventional digital chips.

  • Based on similarities between fuzzy set theory and mathematical morphology, Grabish proposed a fuzzy morphology based on the Sugeno fuzzy integral. This paper proposes a fuzzy mathematical morphology based on the defuzzification of the fuzzy measure which corresponds to fuzzy integral. Its process makes a fuzzy set used as a measure of the inclusion of each fuzzy measure for subsets. To calculate such an integral a $\lambda$-fuzzy measure is defined which gives every subsets associated with the universe of discourse, a definite non-negative weight. Fast implementable definitions for erosion and dilation based on the fuzzy measure was given. An application for robust skeletonization of two-dimensional objects was presented. Simulation examples showed that the object reconstruction from their skeletal subsets that can be achieved by using the proposed was better than by using the binary mathematical morphology in most cases.

  • In a fuzzy control system to vocess fuzzy data in high-speed for intelligent systems, one of the important problems is the improvement of the execution speed in the fuzzy inference and defuzzification stages. Especially, it is more important to have high-speed operations in the consequent Pan and defuzzification stage. Therefore, in this paper, to improve the speedup of the fuzzy controllers for intelligent systems, we propose novel integer fuzzy operation method without mulitplications and divisions by only integer addition to convert real values in the fuzzy membership functions in the consequent part to integer grid pixels $(400{\times}30)$ without [0, 1] real operations. Also we apply the proposed system to the truck backer-upper control system. As a result, this system shows a real-time very high speed fuzzy control as compared as the conventional methods. This system will be applied to the real-time high-speed intelligent systems such as robot arm control.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new circuit construction method that reduces the number of circuit devices of fuzzy controller. Sasaki had defined a new operator to eliminate the divide circuit comparing with the center of gravity method which often using to design the fuzzy controller. In this paper we obtained the more compacted fuzzy controller's circuit by using the proposed definition of fuzzification and defuzzification than using the Sasaki's method and the fuzzification and defuzzification are reverse operation each other. Using these definitions we exhibit the new design method and circuit structure that can eliminate the bounded product(BP) circuit included in Sasaki's circuit. Using the proposed method to level controlling of the water tank, we verified the fuzzy controller's performance by using existent method and proposed method. As a result that are calculated by using the Proposed fuzzy controller to level controlling of the water tank, total numbers of blocks and devices were decreased. If the number of variables and antecedents are Be11ing larger, this method is more efficient.

  • This paper examines the relation between multidimensional linear interpolation(MDI) and fuzzy reasoning, and shows that an MDI is a special form of Tsukamoto's fuzzy reasoning. From this result, we found new possibility of defuzzification strategy.

  • In this paper, we go one step further in that the number of competitive layers is not determined by experience but can be determined by fuzzy control rules based on input pattern information. In our method, we design a set of membership functions and corresponding rules and used Max-Min reasoning proposed by Mamdani. Also, we use centroid method as a defuzzification. In experiment that has various patterns of English inputs, this new method works beautifully to determine the number of competitive layers and also efficient in overall accuracy as a result.
