  • AC-electroosmosis is one of the electrokinetic forces leading to phenomena peculiar in the microfluidics. This paper shows particle deformation in the microchannel with rectangular electrodes on the bottom wall for the AC-electroosmotic flows. We make a PDMS microchannnel with ITO electrodes To measure velocity distributions of the particles we used a three-dimensional particle tracking velocimetry (micro-PTV) technique this method is Particle tracking by interpolation the diffraction pattern ring diameter variations with the defocusing distances of base particle locations. we induce a function of frequency at the electrode. We find the velocity of particles is the most at the edge of the electrodes and Particles move to side wall or center of the channel for the bottom and middle.

  • The Wollaston prism (WP) has shown promise in enabling single-shot transport-of-intensity equation (ssTIE) measurements, facilitating efficient phase retrieval in microscopy. The 1-degree prism which produces the minor beam-separation angle is used to prevent distortions. An optical-glass plate is employed in the duplicated beam path to introduce defocusing. This configuration is also advantageous when aligning the beams laterally caused by the refraction of the optical-glass plate, thus allowing another method for single-shot measurements. We applied the proposed method to image the red blood cells (RBCs), demonstrating that the proposed method could be useful in various biological and medical applications.

  • A computer program for computing the edge response function(ERF) from the optical transfer function( 0TF) was developed. The ERFs of un-aberrated optical system and aberrated optical system were studied by the use of that program. We calculated the ERFs of the optical systems with a single aberration and with a combined aberration. In sagittal case, the ERE of the optical system with defocus or spherical aberration was worse than that with coma. In tagential case, the ERF of the optical system with coma was worse than that with defocusing or spherical aberraion. Both the shape and the position of ERF were varied with coma, but only the position of ERF was varied with distortion, in tangential case.

  • We have studied the generation of an array of dark spatial solitons in a self-deforcusing medium. Unlike a single fundamental dark spatial soliton, we show numerically that the generation of an array of dark spatial solitons from a spatially sinusoidal input beam needs an adiabatic amplification of nonlinear refractive index with the beam propagation distance. In experiment, we establish a Mach-Zehnder interferometer for making the sinusoidal input beam and use a cylindrical lens for the adiabatic amplification. We observe that the dark soliton's dip-width becomes narrower and the background intensity distribution becomes flatter with increasing the nonlinearity.

  • The performance of finger-vein recognition methods is limited by camera optical defocusing, the light-scattering effect of skin, and individual variations in the skin depth, density, and thickness of vascular patterns. Consequently, all of these factors may affect the image quality, but few studies have conducted quality assessments of finger-vein images. Therefore, we developed a new finger-vein recognition method based on image quality assessment. This research is novel compared with previous methods in four respects. First, the vertical cross-sectional profiles are extracted to detect the approximate positions of vein regions in a given finger-vein image. Second, the accurate positions of the vein regions are detected by checking the depth of the vein's profile using various depth thresholds. Third, the quality of the finger-vein image is measured by using the number of detected vein points in relation to the depth thresholds, which allows individual variations of vein density to be considered for quality assessment. Fourth, by assessing the quality of input finger-vein images, inferior-quality images are not used for recognition, thereby enhancing the accuracy of finger-vein recognition. Experiments confirmed that the performance of finger-vein recognition systems that incorporated the proposed quality assessment method was superior to that of previous methods.

  • Nonplanar surface geometries of components are frequently encountered in real ultrasonic inspection situations. Use of rigid array transducers can lead to beam defocusing and reduction of defect image quality due to the mismatch between the planar array and the changing surface. When a flexible array is used to fit the complex surface profile, the locations of array elements should be known to compute the delay time necessary for adaptive heam focusing. An alternative method is to employ the time reversal focusing technique that does not require a prior knowledge about the properties and structures of the specimen and the transducer. In this paper, a time reversal method is applied to simulate beam focusing of flexible arrays and imaging of point-like defects contained in specimens with nonplanar surface geometry. Quantitative comparisons are made for the performance of a number of array techniques in terms of the ability to focus and image three point-like reflectors positioned at regular intervals. The sinusoidal profile array studied here exhibits almost the same image quality as the flat, reference case.

  • Intense pulsed light(IPL) is a photo-therapeutic medical device using xenon lamps with optical characteristics of incoherence, defocusing, and polychromatic. IPL has been recognized as a representative medical therapeutic device with growth of domestic skin care market. However, there is no standard regulation manual and guideline to evaluate the safety and performance of IPL. International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) is being statued "Technical Report IEC TR 60825-16" which is a guidelines for the safe use of intense light source equipment on humans and animals. In this study, a standard Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA) regulation for the safety and performance of IPL was suggested by developing minimal evaluation methods for optical parameters of IPL such as output energy density, pulse mode, spot size, wavelength and uniformity of output light. We expect that this study may be a step to statue a standard regulation manual and guideline for IPLs used in domestic.

  • The modulation transfer function is generally used as a method to estimate the characteristics of this kind of optical system because it cannot reappear or implement image of the object perfect. By the way, it is difficult to assess the optical system with existing MTF method since the reaction between diffraction and aberration of aperture is very complicate if the aberration is very small. The MTF has to be calculated considering the numerical aperture, defocusing, OPD and phase difference. We validate its feasibility using bessel function as an estimating method, and then realize it through illustration in this paper.

  • One of the ways to measure the distance in the computer vision is to use the focus and defocus. There are two methods in this way. The first method is caculating the distance from the focused images in a point (MMDFP: the method measuring the distance to the focal plane). The second method is to measure the distance from the difference of the camera parameters, in other words, the apertures of the focal planes, of two images with having the different parameters (MMDCI: the method to measure the distance by comparing two images). The problem of the existing methods in MMDFP is to decide the thresholding vaue on detecting the most optimally focused object in the defocused image. In this case, it could be solved by comparing only the error energy in 3x3 window between two images. In MMDCI, the difficulty is the influence of the deflection effect. Therefor, to minimize its influence, we utilize two differently focused images instead of different aperture images in this paper. At the first, the amount of defocusing between two images is measured through the introduction of regularization and then the distance from the camera to the objects is caculated by the new equation measuring the distance. In the results of simulation, we see the fact to be able to measure the distance from two differently defocused images, and for our approach to be robuster than the method using the different aperture in the noisy image.

  • Forging is applied for many industrial fields. Also, it is applied to hose nipple. Stress and metal analysis is finding method of forging possibility and we predict this possibility by finite element forging analysis. But there are also many manufacturing procedure after forging, and metal texture is varied by additional heat treatment or coating. So this research is focused on the measuring and analysis of plastic residual stress distribution at overall manufacturing procedure. From raw material to final product we measured real residual stress at each manufacturing procedure by X ray diffract meter, and simulated another procedure except forging by nonlinear finite element analysis. Also we showed how Zn-Ni coating is more contributable to metal strength than Zn coating. By this research we make final conclusion that process analysis must be observed from raw material to final manufacturing state for robust design.
