  • In order to improve Leak-Be(ore-Break methodology, more precisely the crack growth evaluation, a round robin analysis was proposed by the CEA Saclay. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate the crack initiation life, penetration life and shape of through wall crack under cyclic bending loads. The proposed round robin analysis is composed of three main topic; fatigue crack initiation, crack propagation and crack penetration. This paper deals with the first topic, crack initiation in a notched pipe under four point bending. Both elastic-plastic finite element analysis and Neuber's rule were used to estimate the crack initiation life and the finite element models were verified by mesh-refinement, stress distribution and global deflection. In elastic-plastic finite element analysis, crack initiation life was determined by strain amplitude at the notch tip and strain-life curve of the material. In the analytical method, Neuber's rule with the consideration of load history and mean stress effect, was used for the life estimation. The effect of notch tip radius, strain range, cyclic hardening rule were examined in this study. When these results were compared with the experimental ones, the global deformation was a good agreement but the crack initiation cycle was higher than the experimental result.

  • This paper reports the test results of the floating floor system used to reduce the floor noise of apartment buildings. Recently, many soft resilient materials placing between the reinforced concrete slab and finishing mortar are used. The resilient material should not only reduce the floor impact sound vibration from the floor but also support the load on the floor. Thus, even if soft resilient materials satisfy the maximum limitation of light-weight impact sound and heavy-weight impact sound, these materials may not support the load on the floor. The experimental program involved conducting sixteen sound insulation floating floor specimens. Three main parameters were considered in the experimental investigation: resilient materials, loading location, and layers of floor. Experimental results indicated that the stiffness of resilient material significantly influenced on the structural behavior of floating floor system. In addition, the deflection of the floating concrete floor loaded at the side or coner of the specimen was greater than that of the floor loaded at the center of the specimen. However, the aerated concrete did not effect on the cracking strength of floating floor system.

  • In the years, the concern about high-strength concrete which is new material has been heightened as a result of active research and development. Recently, as the building structure has been being bigger, higher, longer and more specialized, the demand of material with high-strength concrete for building has been increasing. The demand of high -strength concrete is expected to increase with expansion of usage about the complex concrete structures such as bridge structure as well as nuclear plants, underground structures, hydraulic structures and arctic area sturctures. In this research, silica-fume was used as an admixture in order to get a high-strength concrete. Water/binder ration was limited no more than 18 percent and the amount of unit cement was increased. In this study, a number of trial in concrete mix was carried out to get optimal mix design, and the target slump with $10{\pm}2cm$ was set for in-situ construction. High-strength concrete with cylinder strength of 1,200kgf/$cm^2$ in the 28-days was produced and tested. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relations were obtained form the static test. The test results were compared with the shear strengths predicted by the equations of ACI code 318-89 and orther researchers. Based on the test results, shear strength equation of reinforced concrete beam using high strength concrete was proposed. Form an evaluation of the results of this experimental investigation, it was concluded that shear strength after diagonal tention cracking diminished with the increase in compressive strength for beams.

  • In this study, new moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column joint is proposed for moderate seismic regions. It has the connection reinforcing bars, penetrated the joint and lap-spliced with the bottom bars of precast U-shaped PC beam. To evaluate the performance for noncontact lapped splice, experimental and analytical works were conducted. Major variables for tests are the length of lap, the diameter of connection reinforcing bars, and the distance between lapped bars. Analytic research was performed nonlinear finite element method. Analytic research focused on crack pattern, load-deflection curve, comparison of internal force, evaluation of ductility strains of reinforcement bar. Results of experimental and analytical works show that the these variables has much influence on flexural strength and ductility, and joint behavior.

  • The sprayed FRP strengthening technique is combining the Glass fiber and Polyester resin in open air and spraying randomly at concrete's surface with high-speed compressed air. Then it strengthens the structures with a new technique evaluated the structural performance. We applied it to concrete beam and tested for flexural strength, depended on Korea Standard(KS F 2408). Then based on the result of flexural strength, the properties were proposed that applying to structures. Based on the experiment, we have evaluated structural performance by the experiment. 1/5 scale prestressed concrete I-beam were made by Korean Highway's typical drawing in 1993. With these test results, 49.8% increased in flexural strength, improvement of the behavior of serviceability state, and strengthening was surely effective for controlling deflection and crack of structure. Consequently, it can be summarized that Sprayed FRP technique has prospect to improve the performance of structure.

  • The absolute value management method is widely used in the most of the earth retaining construction, which evaluates the safety by comparing measurement result and management criteria. Therefore, the management criteria is the standard to evaluate the safety of the site, and in other words, the criteria is a direct factor of the evaluation. That means that the safety of the site can not be acquired if the management criteria is not proper, even though the measurement system is perfectly set. However, many of field technicians do not have rely on the current management criteria, and they even recognize the necessity of the revision. Therefore, in this study, the necessity of the revision was studied. Also, the optimum criteria selection and the application were performed based on the test results of earth retaining deflection and probabilistic theory. The absolute value management method was used for this study. The details are tabulated.

  • Until recently tensile stresses in concrete have not been considered, since it does not affect the ultimate strength of reinforced concrete flexural members significantly However, to verify the load-deflection relationship, the effect of tensile stresses between reinforcing bars and concrete, so-called tension stiffening effect must be taken into account. Main parameters of the tension stiffening behavior are known as concrete strength, and bond between concrete and reinforcing bars. In this study total twenty specimens subjected to bending were tested with different concrete strength, coverage, and de-bonding length of longitudinal bars. The effects of these parameters on the flexural rigidity, crack initiation and propagation were carefully checked and analyzed.

  • The member deflection is one of the most important considerations for the serviceability evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, and the concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for the estimation of beam deflections. The KCI design code adopted Branson's equation for the calculation of the effective moment of inertia, which was formulated based on the results of beam tests subjected to uniformly distributed loads. Therefore, it is worthwhile to check the applicability of the code approach on the estimation of the effective moment of inertia for the cases of beams under different loading conditions. In this study, an experimental investigation has been conducted on six beams, where primary variables were concrete compressive strengths and loading distances from supports. The test results were compared with various approaches proposed by Branson and others as well. The test results indicated that the effective moment of inertia was somewhat influenced by the moment distribution shape. Despite the different moment distribution shapes for specimens, however, the effective moment of inertia of all test beams were closely predicted by the existing methods considered in this study.

  • In strength limit states design, it is assumed that after cracking, reinforcement carries all tension in the tension zone of reinforced concrete members. However, it can be seen the concrete between cracks will contribute to carrying a part of the tension stress in actual concrete members particularly at service load levels, this effect is referred as tension stiffening effect. In this study, tension stiffening models and high strength concrete beam flexural test results were verified through comparison. The relationship between moment-curvature and load-deflection was evaluated by result of tension stiffening model and test result values. The analysis results showed that ACI 318 and Owen & Damjanic generally shows good agreement.

  • This paper proposes a model to analyze the fault factors of air-to-ground weapon delivery utilizing software fault localization methods. In the previous study, to figure out the factors to affect the accuracy of air-to-ground weapon delivery, the FBEL (Factor-based Error Localization) method had been proposed and the fault factors were analyzed based on the method. But in the study, the correlation between weapon delivery accuracy and the fault factors could not be revealed because the firing accuracy among several factors was fixed. In this paper we propose a more precise fault analysis model driven through a study of the correlation among the fault factors of weapon delivery, and a method to estimate the possibility of faults with the limited number of test cases utilizing the model. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the simulation utilizing real delivery data. and weapons delivery testing in the evaluation of which element affecting the accuracy of analysis that was available to be used successfully.
