  • Purpose - This research aims to find the moderation roles of power states in the effects of four message types (competence self-referencing, competence self-defining, warmth self-referencing, warmth self-defining) on brand attitude. Research design, data, and methodology - A restaurant brand was used as an experimental object, and 4(message types: warmth self-defining message, warmth self-referencing message, competence self-defining message, competence self-referencing message) × 2(power: high power and low power) between-subjects design was employed. Through on-line survey in Nepal, we collected a total of 240 individuals composed of eight experimental groups with 30 members in Nepal. Results - Consumers under low power state formed more positive brand attitude at the warmth self-defining message than any other types of message, while under high power condition, there are neither the attitude differences between competence self-referencing message and competence self-defining message, nor those between competence self-referencing message and warm self-defining message. The significant attitude differences showed between competence self-referencing message and warmth self-referencing message. Conclusions - This study contributes to the advertising theory development. Restaurant store marketers should deliver warmth self-defining message rather than the other three types of message to consumers under low power state, and they should not deliver warmth self-referencing message to consumers under high power state.

  • In order to design fractional factorial experiments which include some debarred combinations, we should select defining contrasts so that those combinations are to be excluded. Choi(1999) presented a method of selectign defining contrasts to construct orthogonal 3-level fractional factorial experiments which exclude some debarred combinations. In this paper, we extend Choi's method to general p-level fractional factorial experiments to select defining contrasts which cold exclude some debarred combinations.

  • The goal of this study was to explore topic defining patterns of students in interdisciplinary Capstone Design Class. Thematic analysis methodology was used to examine 85 Korean college students' lived experience of project topic generation which is for interdisciplinary capstone design class and Individual open-ended survey for constituted the data sources. Findings show four contexts of student's topic defining patterns using thematic analysis including (a) one leader's directed problem representation, (b) team common decision making after brainstorming, (c) empathy with professor proposed issue, (d) problems offered to students by corporate or research competitions. Based on research result, I could suggest instructional strategies of Capstone Design Class of teacher for helping their students' topic defining. It was necessary to minimize the opinions of the instructors at the beginning of class and minimize the number of team members. And also it provided a lot of opportunities to collaborate with companies in the topic selection process, it will help to develop the students' ability to determine the valuable topic in project.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify essential nursing diagnoses using NANDA and their related factors and defining characteristics of patients who were cared in an emergency room. Methods: The research checklist developed by the researcher consisted of 44 nursing diagnoses with defining characteristics and related factors and was applied to 235 patients who were admitted to an emergency room from November 1 to December 31, 2012. Results: Forty-one of forty-four nursing diagnoses were identified. The most frequent nursing diagnoses were acute pain, risk for falls, and activity intolerance. The most frequent defining characteristic for the nursing diagnosis of 'acute pain' was verbal report of pain. The agreement rate with NANDA (2009)'s defining characteristics was 66.7%. Conclusion: Results indicate that identification of essential nursing diagnoses and their defining characteristics and related/risk factors is important for emergency patient nursing care to facilitate use of NANDA taxonomy in the emergency nursing practice and documentation systems.

  • When fractional factorial experiments contain some infeasible treatment combinations called debarred combinations we should construct experimental designs so that those debarred combinations are to be excluded by selecting defining contrasts appropriately. By applying Franklin(1995)'s procedure for selecting defining contrasts to Cheng and Li(1993)'s method this paper presents a method of selecting defining contrasts to construct orthogonal 3-level fractional factorial experiments which exclude some debarred combinations.
